Ed McMahon never worked for Publisher's Clearing House and I don't know what to do anymore

You know I can deal with the Berenstain Bears thing. Mandela dying whenever he died, that's not causing me any issues.

But Ed McMahon never working for Publisher's Clearing House? This is getting out of hand.

McMahon apparently briefly worked for a PCH competitor, and PCH has even made a statement that he never worked for them. But the belief is so strong that even shows at the time referenced the idea.

The thing that really gets me though, is that this belief was so widespread that even people at the time thought he worked with the PCH prize patrol. Why do we associate McMahon with big checks? Where is this all coming from? What will I have for lunch?!

Welcome to the new, changed world.

I heard this earlier this week and figured it was the McElroy brothers having a goof.

I… I can’t.

I can’t with this one.

I mean I remember the Ed McMahon and Dick Clark ads on daytime television as an impressionable youth, but it's only reviewing this article that I remembered it being American Family Publishers specifically.
