Beast Breaker; the Peggle/Arkanoid/Monster Hunter you didn’t know you needed!

Octopus Prime

Mysterious Contraption
(He/Him)
Figured it was prudent to do some signal boosting on this game, since it came out to minimal fanfare last week, and that little fanfare was quickly drowned out by a bunch of much higher profile stealth releases.

Heres what I said about it shortly after I started playing it;

And it’s simplest, it’s a combination of Monster Hunter, Peggle and Arkanoid; with you aiming and firing a little hyperkinetic pinball of a mouse into the soft meats of a giant monster (made up of a mosaic of different coloured tiles), trying to make sure your aim is true enough to not land in the attack range, and also trying to deal enough damage to its vital parts to stop it before a timer can reach zero. Breaking off body parts, besides resetting that timer, change up its attack pattern as well as giving you resources you can turn into near gear between battles.

I deemed it “Really Fun!” Before I even finished the tutorial

And I deem it really fun still!

A short ways into the game it becomes even Monster Hunterier as you can track your quarry in semi-real time as it stalks around a village, which you can use to determine its strengths and weaknesses in order to determine which passive buffs you should pursue while hunting it, and attempt to ambush it when it’s most advantageous (which in this case, means you get a bonus turn to attack before the fight begins in earnest.

Also; the entire cast is varmints, if that sweetens the pot at all

Sabe, Inattentive Type
(he "Sabe" / she "Kali")
Very cool! I've met and hung out with some of the creators of this one, so I've got a few extra warm fuzzies about it. Looks like it's on Switch and Epic Games for now, not Steam, for anyone hunting it up.
