Everybody loves rotoscoping: Let's Play Out of this World!

Flashback is the ultimate evolution of the Rotoscopey Game in Which You Die Horribly, and while I'm severely tempted to play that one, I doubt I could do a better job than Yahtzee did over at SA. Not that I'm ruling it out, mind you, especially since I finally got my PC copy of the game working for the first time in a decade. But I couldn't play that game without doing at least one more of its ancestors first...

BTW, the original Amiga version was not as hard, for better or worse. The "gas" in the tunnel was not fatal and there were far fewer screens between dropping the chandelier on the guard and getting into the arena tank (No FU puzzle)...

Screw anyone who hates on obtuse solutions to puzzles, this is one of the more fun gaming experiences I've ever had. I beat this one on a 3DO of all things, back in first semester of undergrad.

And I remember that ending being both great and annoying in the "wait... that's IT!?!" nature of it.

Just wanted to say this LP was fantastic. Another World is one of my favorite games of all time. If you know exactly what you're doing, the game really only takes 15 minutes. One of the coolest things that I think often gets overlooked is that everything you do in the game is with one button.

Later versions let you jump with the secondary button, but I think this is still one of the best examples of a context-sensitive control scheme ever. This is what Peter Molyneux is probably dreaming of... with just a single button and the d pad Lester can swim, walk, run, kick, jump, run faster, grab a vine, swing a cage, pick up a weapon, charge a shot, create a shield, move an elevator, roll on his side, kick an alien in the nuts, pull levers, grab for stalactites, and do a freaking combat roll. All this, from an Amiga game.

Creating a story without words is the big draw here still, but I'm also completely blown away by how much attention is paid to creating tension and a sense of atmosphere. A lot of people loved Metal Gear Solid 4's "microwave" sequence... but what they probably didn't know was... Another World did it first! The tension and drama the game builds, specifically from the fear of terrible deaths, is so palpable you can feel it just by reading this thread.

The GBA port is indeed fantastic, but so is the Windows re-release, which can be had for pretty cheap, and includes both the original graphics and higher-res versions. Everyone should play this game- just be patient with it... the first few times can be pretty tough... way tougher if you're forced to play the sluggish SNES version.

Now that my images have been liberated from Photobucket's evil clutches, I've updated all the links (more or less) and brought this LP back from the beyond. Oh wow, you weren't even a member when this first came out. Dang. And thanks! It's hard to go back and read your old work, but there is stuff in there that I'm proud of. "It's like poetic justice, only with violence!" is definitely one of the best things I've ever written.

I played through this for the first time last year via the PS3 revamp. And it's a really good game! And it was fun revisiting it reading this.
