Default You have two hours before the virus erases your brain - Let's Play Burn:Cycle!

Before I begin this thread, I think I need to explain some things. I was going to do Plumbers Don't Wear Ties for this LP, then I switched it to Wirehead... well, I have to switch it again. Why do I have to switch it? Because I'm done with it already, it's an Interactive LP where you can control the action! Turns out that makes for a really short LP (I posted it on Something Awful a few days ago), but it is there if you want to mess with it.

But in any case, I found a solution, that is Burn:Cycle for the CD-i.

The game's star, Sol Cutter, is a small-time data thief whose latest steal at the beginning of the game comes with a nasty sting. The Burn:Cycle virus has been implanted in his head and has given him a two-hour realtime deadline to find a cure before his brain deteriorates completely. You, as the player, must guide Sol out of Softech and into the Televerse in order to find his cure. Various obstacles and games stand in his way, and there is the overarching realisation that Burn:Cycle has been planted by someone with malicious intent. Finding this within the time limit completes the game.
While it does have its share of problems (it's quite dated graphically, some of the puzzles are annoying, and the acting is hit and miss) overall it's not that bad. Now sure, this is CD-i we're talking about here, but even still it's playable and fun. The gimmick of having two hours to beat the game works quite well; It adds to the suspense, and having a "save anywhere" system makes it less frustrating. I've beaten this game before, so I flew through most of it without problems, but for those who have never played it it would probably take a few tries before you get through it.

This LP is going to be all video (Recorded directly off my CD-i 220), mixed with Youtube annotations to explain objects if necessary. For the first chapter, there is not much to explain (Apart from a jumpcut caused by my video capture card), but later when more items come up I'll explain what they are, and so on. If any of you find problems with this, please say so.

Alright, Let's play Burn:Cycle

I actually remember reading about this game back in the day, apparently it was one of the few actually good Cd-i games.

My friend Seb covered this game a while back too.

I actually own this game, but I don't have a CDI so I can't play it. lol

Awesome! This is probably the only CD-i title I've ever wanted to play.

Er, wanted to play beyond the purpose of laughing at it, of course.

I know that cyberpunk stories tend toward garishness but the technological limitations of the time really exacerbate (ameliorate?) the feature in this game. The interiors feel just as bleak as the exteriors since all the people are, effectively, mannequins until they're, suddenly, not.

As an extension of the previous thought, the lack of cast shadows is really bothering me.

Yeah, the game may be dated but I don't know, it still has some kind of charm to it... then again, I've not thrown it out the window, so that may be why.

Anyway, Chapter 4: Youtube

Chapter 6 is now uploaded. In this chapter, we get to meet Doc, get more back story on Cutter and Softech, and go inside to fight the Burn Cycle virus.

This game is... interesting, to say the least. It's hard to explain, but it feels very noir-y for some reason. I like it.

I liked it, honestly. Maybe it's because of how mind-bendingly terrible the other CD-i games have been so far, but Burn:Cycle actually seemed like something I could see myself enjoying.

Anyway, thanks for showing us the game, innerlogic.
