I just checked my watch and it said it was UPDATE 'O CLOCK and look what we have here!

I definitely didn't remember Bolse sucking that much. Then again, I don't think I've ever played the easy path all the way through since the first few times I played the game.

As cool as Starfox 64 is, the original will remain #1 in my heart, mostly because of the casino dimension.

Part 8 is up now too. Viddler is great, but man, it can take a while before videos show up sometimes.

Same here. I would occasionally go there and play until Titania, but then I would stop. Titania is easily the best map on the Easy path, but Meteo and Sector X are good too. But 99% of the time I would play I would do the same route: all of the Hard levels, with a detour to Macbeth. I forgot how painfully boring the Easy route can be.

Fixed. Your list wasn't too far off of mine, though.

Hahaha, oh man. I clearly haven't played this game in a long time. I really didn't remember that first boss fight being that easy. It was over in ten seconds.

I tried to warn you. The same thing happened with me and Fortuna, so...yeah. Time has not treated the Easy route well.

Yeah... I'm even prepared to admit that Starfox 64 is a better game, but I still prefer the original.

Part of that is the branching paths in SF64. Too often I miss some dumb objective, end up on the low path, and then turn the game off instead of finishing it. It's a more sophisticated design, but in practice it annoys me.

I love how in Bolse Slippy gets a weird line of dialogue. Before the core shows up he keeps saying to the fighters "Your carcass is mine!". Seems a bit extreme for the dopey frog. I guess those few minutes all alone on Titania changed him. War does that to a man. They drew first blood.

Edit. Fox has to go it alone at the end because he know Slippy would just screw up everything

Also maybe SOME of liked that first boss because it took more than 10 seconds the first few times we played him. :P And that All Range mode was so sweet after being used to Star Fox 1

I've spent too much time watching these videos. The commentary is fantastic.

Many fond memories of SF64 in the dorm. The multi player wasn't anything compared to Mario Kart or Goldeneye, but we had fun with it. When this hit the VC, I beat it about 6 times in 2 days. It's about time to blow the virtual dust off of it again thanks to this thread.

Huh, as many times as I've played this game I've never managed to get the warp in Meteo. Thanks for showing me that.

Just beat the easy path again on the VC. This isn't one that springs to mind any time I think of my favorite games, but each time I play it I remember how fun it is and how much I like it.

Easily in my top 10, if not top 5. I should play the SNES one to the end sometime. When is Nintendo going to get some SuperFX chip emulation going on the VC?

Oops. That kind of took a while. But hey, two videos for you all! Hooray!

Sorry but work has been absolutely insane lately (damn holidays) so I haven't had time to update at all. My goal is to upload at least one video every two days, so hopefully we can finish this thing relatively soon.

And yes, I do know someone who really gets like that when he's on cocaine. He's only done it a few times, and I plead for him to not do it, but he always does and he acts like a total goofball.

Man, I remember just being blown away by Katina when the game first came out. It was such a blast taking out all of those ships and the giant Independence Day-esque guy. Probably 2nd on my list of favorite levels, just behind the upcoming tank vs. train battle. THAT level always made me wonder if the Rumble Pak was going to hop right out of the bear claw of a controller I was holding on to.

Solar, like you said though, is just boring after the first time you play it. At first it was like "Wow!" And then it just gets irritating if you're not thinking and fly too close to the ground (i.e., if you can see your entire ship on the screen in 3rd person view). I tend to purposefully avoid it when I play.

Thanks for keeping this going, Alixsar

Hey. I was fully planning on updating tonight (to the point where I had planned everything I wanted to say/recorded the video etc.), but I had a bit of an emergency. Everything's cool but I won't be able to get to it tonight. I know nobody's going to lose any sleep or anything, but I feel the need to apologize for not getting to it. I promise I'll have it up soon.

The video seemed really dark that time; I think you need to bump up the brightness or the gamma. I know that the ground on Macbeth isn't pitch black.

Macbeth was always my favorite level.

If you're having trouble aiming with a dual shock, then I suggest configuring your emulator so that the mouse is bound to the analog stick. It means learning a whole bunch of new button layouts for your off hand, but being able to point the reticule like a cursor seems like it would be fairly useful. I don't know how well it'll work, though.

(Side node: it's also possible to use a combination of emulator and in-game options to play Goldeneye or Perfect Dark with WASD/mouselook.)

Can you do that? It didn't work on the 64 emulator I used.

The weird thing is that IS with the brightness pumped up. If I pump it up more than that, the video starts to look overexposed and I hate that. I guess a notch or two more wouldn't hurt too badly.

As far as configuring the mouse goes, that won't work with my emulator. It ultimately didn't matter since I got a medal on that stage anyway; it was just something worth pointing out for those at home. It has affected my ability in general, but it's a lot easier to deal with than the keyboard so whatever.

I've been enjoying from the sidelines. Your work got me playing again. Great work!

But man- at least you're getting better now. I had issues getting a medal on Bolse, actually, because my men kept dieing. Stupid Star Wolf...why is there only one pre-Bolse/Area 6 SW thing anyway -_-?

Getting better now? You're mean. But yeah, the hard route was basically all I ever played, so it's where I truly excel. So far, I've come within five kills of getting a medal on every map of the hard route. Sector Z is going to inevitably be a let down.

The trick to getting the most kills in a playthrough is to follow the hard route until Zoness, detour to Macbeth, and then go to Area 6 and Venom 2 to finish. Since I've already shown you all Macbeth, I'm going to go to Sector Z and then add everything up as if had gone to Macbeth (use my Macbeth score instead of my Sector Z score) and give our real total during the grand finale.

I'm a bit bummed that I've come oh-so-close to medalling each time but I haven't done it on any of the hard levels yet. Oops. Ah, whatever. I said before that this isn't a 100% playthrough or anything. This is just me being a sarcastic jerk and playing Star Fox 64.

Speak of which, Parts 13 and 14 (Aquas and Zoness) are now up. Enjoy! Get ready for some WIGG DABIT

Sorry, it's just that some of the easy stuff had me perplexed at first.

And trust me: you're good, but I'M WORSE!

...I had issues getting the alternate Corneria boss a few weeks ago- the first time I played this game since the VC release >_<. But hey! At least I got a medal on Sector Y at last (and gone to Aquas >_>)!

Part 15 is up. Area 6 will be up tomorrow. Venom/Andross is filmed but I need to record commentary/put it together. If all goes how I plan, this thing'll be done by Sunday. Or so. I'll probably get lazy and not finish it on time, but it'll be done very soon.

The little jingle that plays whenever Katt appears is kind of annoying!
I think my favorite thing about Sector Z was the fact that you can enter the Great Fox and get repaired. That was the coolest thing ever.
