LET'S STREAM FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S - You Knew This Day Would Come

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Let's Stream Five Night's at Freddy's.

Five Nights at Freddy's is a point and click survival horror game created by Scott Cawthon. It puts you in the role of a night security guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, which is basically an offbrand Chuck-E-Cheeses. Your job is to keep an eye on things from 12AM to 6AM for a whole week in order to earn your paycheck! Oh also the Animatronics want to kill you. That won't be a problem, will it?

The game was released in early August 2014, and by the end of the month it had successfully taken over the entire fucking internet. If you are in this thread on this forum about video games, chances are good that you already know exactly what FNAF is. Hell you've probably even seen the a few videos of the hapless Youtube Let's Players, Playing this game with their webcams on, jumping at shadows and small noises. Everybody's who's anybody on has already showcased this game in all it's mad glory.

Figured it was high time I finally caught up with the crowd!

As always, all my recording sessions of this game are streamed live to my Hitbox then posted to My Youtube which you should totally subscribe to. I'll try to remember to announce whenever I'm setting up to stream in both this thread and on my Twitter. I'm getting better about keeping the chat open when I stream, so anyone who wants to be a part of this trainwreck need only show up and start yelling at me.

In which I actually manage to make it through the first two nights without any major incidents! Hey, How about that!

I'm not going into this game completely blind, as I had to do quite a bit of fiddling around to get OBS to recognize it as an actual game, and not as a featureless black box. Even so, the issues of recording this the way I did can be seen just all over this video. Streaming HATES static effects, and FNAF is just plain full of em! As a result huge portions of this video look blurry, weird, or just plain bad.

I'm going to mess around with my OBS settings to see if I can't find a way to make things look a little cleaner. Sadly, you won't actually see the results of said messing around until at least another video or two down the line, depending on how I cut the remaining footage.

Also what was I thinking putting my webcam feed at the bottom right instead of the bottom left? It covers the whole map! Rookie mistake, BEAT! Rookie mistake!

Wish I could have saw this one live, oh well!

I think the 'culture' mentioned in the video might refer to the fanbase in general, which admittedly does skew young and thus has a capacity to be pretty obnoxious about the game. (do not spend time at the FNAF subreddit... or, y'know, reddit in general)

But on the other hand the game has inspired a lot of creativity from its fanbase in a way you'd really only see from long-established franchises. This series hasn't even existed for a year, and already the creations of the fan community range widely from crude MSpaint creations to fully fledged fangames. As BEAT said in his OP it took over the entire fucking internet for awhile, in no small part because Cawthon is some kind of monster that can crank sequels faster than Capcom in the NES era which kept the interest alive. Hell, this is the longest we've had to wait between new games and already the trailer for the fourth one has people talking.

Whatever criticisms that you can lay on the games and the series as a whole, it really has a certain something that just grabbed people. Maybe it was the unexpected creativity of the first game's central design, maybe it was the cast of 'characters', maybe it was the surprisingly effective tension, maybe it was all the barely hidden background info that got people like GameTheory worked up, maybe it was all of it. Something about it just worked really well.


Oh and putting your facecam on the bottom left wouldn't be good either, then it would cover up the power meter. Top right has the hour, so maybe top left?

On the other hand, that's what makes it the best idea.

Absolutely. My internet is made of butt and as a result I may not be able to view the stream while on Skype at the same time, but we'll see. (what bitrate do you stream?)

I keep my bitrate around 1100. I might actually try to crank it up to see if I can try to get around the whole static blur thing though.

How much of a heads-up will you give? Will it be a "Stream starting in one hour!" or closer to a "GET TO A HITBOX NOW NOW WE'RE LIVE IN FIVE SECONDS!" kind of thing?

Knowing BEAT it will almost assuredly be the latter.

I don't schedule my day around doing these man.

I just sort of suddenly realize that I've got a few hours left in the evening and go "OH HEY NOW'S GOOD."

I should not be watching this late at night. At the end there I was just thinking "the camera the camera the camera AAAAGGH".

I think watching this game is more fun if you know nothing at all about the mechanics.

I'm planning on doing MORE OF THIS GAME in like an hour and a half or so.

Boy... I sure don't remember being so weirded out by the animatronics when I was younger. Maybe it was the song choice.
