I Don't Have a Pun! Let's Play Cobalt
Uh, hi.
I'm a very small time indie game developer and wannabe cool dude in my spare time. I started a Let's Play of an indie sidescrolling action game called Cobalt awhile back; maybe you guys would like to watch it? Parts 1-5 are here. Anyway, my goal in this is to basically fully explore each map (user created or not), or die in entertaining ways several times in the process. So, yeah. Thanks. |

Only seen a few of the videos up thus far but I'm kind of liking what I'm seeing. A bit tricky to really follow the fine elements of the mechanics, but it looks a lot like Risk of Rain sans roguelike stuff so ????????????

Yeah, it is a bit like RoR, with less development and more action (maybe?). Sorry, my vids so far haven't really explained the core gameplay; there's actually a tutorial in the game that I completely didn't play (on the videos). A quick run-down of a few things are:
_____ You can hold up to three ranged weapons, three thrown weapons, and a melee weapon (though most of the time you're not going to find melee weapons, I don't think). Rolling deflects bullets, but not ALL of the time (just some of time you're in the roll); right toward the end, you're vulnerable again. So, timing is important. Apparently, rolls won't deflect 100% of the damage incurred, but rather a large portion of it. You can press up or down to auto-aim at enemies or other targets; there's no "right stick aiming" in this game (AFAIK). It's possible to hit targets while rolling. When something's approaching you (a bullet or grenade), bullet time generally activates (if you have it turned on), which allows you to decide what to do next. You can punch the ground while rolling to boost yourself forward or up, depending on when you time the punch. You can double-jump and wall-hang. You can build "juice" for increased double-jumping height by running on the ground (the orange glow on the character's feet). You can slide down inclines by holding down. When you die, you pop out as a little "brain bot"; at this point, you have really low defense and have dropped most of your items. You'd have to get back to a purple terminal to Reconstruct yourself into a normal form, though you can still fight to some very limited extent. ___________ Anyway, here's another part! Rollin' with the punches. |

Seventh part up. Bullet time's pretty useful in this. |

This game looks pretty neat so far, the fights look very chaotic! I think I have a good idea on what that switch does, I'll be interested in seeing if my guess was right.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy. You probably are right on what you think the switch does, haha.
Anyway, here's another part to the LP! |

Yeah, the LP's finished for now unless I get more Survival maps I want to mess about with. There are other modes that I could showcase, but if I did all of everything, it'd be the longest LP ever, and I really like the Survival mode as it seems like it's the deepest and requires a lot of strategy. Maybe I'll start another one if I can get a selection of maps and nobody else's LPing it. It was fun!
