Fighting is Magic? Let's Play My Little Pony: Dr. Discord's Conquest

So, you probably never saw this cart when you were a kid buying NES games at ToysRUs (or wherever you bought your NES games at back in those innocent times.

Maybe for the best, since if you saw this game back then it might have caused a rip in space and time. Though, I did find an actual cart of this for sale on a reproduction website recently. That's actually how I learned about this odd title and had to investigate.

So, let's look at how this actually started. It's actually a romhack of Mega Man 3 where you play as Twilight Sparkle. Since Mega Man 3 is my favorite Mega Man, I was curious and played a little of one level.

I found quite the variety of eye-candy and spot on game play.



Just look at that. You can see background stuff from DuckTales and one of the later Mega Man games.

There's also music from all over the place, as I've heard Castlevania, Sonic 2, and Mega Man X6, amongst others.


Of course there's lots of pony related enemies now too.

So, aside from playing "spot the music" or "spot the tiles" you can spot all the pony references!

I wanted to Let's Play a game that was a little rarer, a little more unusual, and different from my norm, since I just recently passed the 100 subscriber mark on Youtube and I wanted to celebrate.

Where Red LPs his first romhack, bounces off dragon heads, and doesn't know what animal that's supposed to be.

Where Red doesn't recognize enemies, references Anatomy of Games, and really likes the hat.

PS: hey BEAT maybe a wizard dies in this one.

So what was that enemy supposed to be. Rarity and her giant hallucinatory diamond?

Shouldn't you finish your old LPs before starting new ones?

Nah it's totally cool to do 2 at once.

Or...how many do you have open right now, Red? Four?

#3: Applejack

Where Red doesn't like apples, falls down an illegal hole, and sees all the doors he can't use.

#4: Rainbow Dash

Where Red makes it 20% cooler, might be terrible at timing, and exposes the terrible glitchy password.

#5: Princess Luna

Where Red loves spacejumping, is cheated out of a nice rainbow, and totally hops over the moon.

"That's not an astronaut, it's a TV comedian! And he was just using space travel as a metaphor for beating his wife."

#6: Princess Celestia

Where Red still loves to spin, doesn't dodge holes like a champ, and admires the background.

...but wheres the dungeon in the place that she banishes you to?

Where we don't flash all the time, spikes are a sometimes food, and who knew diamonds would slow a girl down?

Where Red is reminded of Rockin' Kats, finds the most horrifying enemy in the game, and then totally gets his mind bloon.
