Exclamation Treasure of the Rudras

Prologue: Hello and welcome, foolish person, to a thread you probably clicked on by mistake! I have no idea what this game is about, and as of this writing the only two things I know are that the game is called Treasure of the Rudras and the title screen I googled has terrible typography. This will be my fourth bad LP in a series I'm doing on action/adventure/RPGs/???. Previously in the series, I accidentally did a GOOD game called Dragon View (Drakken 2) and I don't know what I was thinking. Desperate to fix things, I proceeded to run LOTR for SNES, currently high in the running for Worst Game Ever Made for SNES. With this fourth game I plan to take my LPing to new lows, hoping to alienate people to the point that nobody at all posts or reads. Stop reading this thread. Stop it. Go do something fun, I beg you. In my LPs, text that is italicized is my own wording. Text that is not italicized is transcribed from screenshots which were deleted to save room for other art. People who have previously commented in my LPs get double votes when a vote is available. The focus will be on graphics, story and my overall impressions about the game. I might try to entertain you with my words, but don't worry, you can ignore all that and just look at the pictures.

Table of Contents
Riza's Story - Only allowed spells suggested by readers!
Sion's Story - Low-level Run
Surlent's Story - No spending money (more restrictions to be voted on now!)

Riza's Story
Update 1.1: Title, intro and a vote to name our characters.

Oof, a bit of trapped space there where the leg of the A is partially occluded by the curve of the G. Bad form. Squaresoft logo is of course a classic. Sorry if the font's a little small, I don't resize my images because I try to crank these out quickly.

I love cities in silhouette. Looks like we've got some Lost Technology tropes coming. Cool!

Since it's not obvious, these heads are spinning around some kind of rock? I'm sure that's the final dungeon.

"But you won't be playing any of these characters. They're all dead. Instead you'll be some other jerks."

Pretty neat intro! Here are the characters we can name. We get 8 characters per... character. I hope this game has a lot of character.

According to the rules agreed upon in LOTR4SNESBLP, I have to put each spell up for a vote before I'm allowed to use them. So that's a thing that will be happening and will probably mostly influence the sorcerer?

What should their names be? Feel free to research them, but don't spoil anything please.

I actually rather loved this game; buff spells and elemental weaknesses really matter and the plots interweave in really interesting ways. I think you'll be disappointed if you want a terrible game.

Hawk for the warrior, Isaac for the sorcerer, Melody for the druidess, and Yuri for the thief.

That is actually a relief, just the LP will be bad then!

I need a good game after that last turd.

Thanks jp friction!

You could just play the game and not LP it.

Just to mention, you guys may also want to vote on another thing.

Which scenario to follow? There's a scenario for Warrior Guy, Magic Dude, and Druid Girl. But not one for Thief Man.

I'll set it up for update 2 then. All in good time!

As is tradition, I've prepatorily rated this thread 1 star.

I've been reading how other RPGs have been lp'd in the past and I think I've got an idea how to do this one efficiently and without being boring. I'm probably being optimistic though.

You mean you might end up renaming the thread Treasure of the Rudras - A Good LP?

Now Red, we can't break tradition yet. We have to give it time to become so deeply ensconced in Talking Time tradition that having Guild do a good LP will be nigh-unthinkable!

You didn't explain the part where having multiple awful LPs was a good idea.

You see having a multitude of awful LPs shows the undeniable versatility of your community, and their efforts. Thus more terrible (but funny) LPs cannot be seen as a truly bad thing. Or something to that noise I'm not in Talking Time PR dangit!

The Google Maps tell me that you are not actually that close to me, BUT you are very close to Skull Island.

Please visit Skull Island and tell us if it is as awesome as the name suggests.

Update 1.2: Choose a scenario, Kupo!

Since I'm wired off casino juice I thought I'd do some of this, but it seems it's time for another choice already! So instead I guess I'll read other LPs.

Which scenario first?
>Hawk the Warrior
>Isaac the Sorcerer
>Melody the Druidess

I vote Melody to break the 2-each tie, giving our druidess 4 votes.

Here we go!

Update 2.1: Melody's Jade, Chrono Trigger/FF6 references, and my Boredometer.

The scene opens with a Chrono Trigger reference or something then an unsubtly metaphorical shadow foreshadows the coming of evil or ManBearPig or whatever.

Zeku: So your heart is set on leaving, is it?

Melody: I'm afraid so. I can't wait any longer... I've been getting more and more restless by the day. It's time I set out.

Zeku: The Spirit of Life has awoken within you, Melody. It, too, can feel the turmoil in our world.

Melody: The air, the earth, the ocean... Life and nature... I can feel the calling out... asking for salvation. Our planet must have been so beautiful once...

Zeku: Finally... Is our destiny really going to change? Your mother, Melody. She's still alive, you know. Like you, she left this village with a quest set firmly in her heart. You, however, bear the Jade of Life on your forehead... The Jade which marks you as the Chosen who shall save this world. Its strength will serve to guide you on your path.

Melody: But why has the Spirit woken up now? What does it mean?

Zeku: Do you know the Prophecies of the Danans?

Melody: Yes... Amidst the light, they will dance under skies of blue. In the deepest shadow, it shall be born to reclaim the earth. The blue life they shall protect, and receive the guidance of the oceans. But that's just a story!

Zeku: That's no mere fairy tale! Recall the conclusion of the Prophecy... "Time carries with it the seeds of life's undoing. A Jade shall shine in the face of cataclysm, and the Chosen shall awaken..."

Zeku walks south and Melody follows.

Melody: That's me?

Zeku: Your mother left Karn to awaken and regenerate the weakened forces of nature. In so doing, she hoped to free our world from the taint of pollution.

Melody: But where did she go?

Zeku: That I cannot tell you. The world is a large place, and its paths many.

Melody: So where should I start looking?

Zkeu (actual typo transcribed from English patch): The city of Babel to the south should be your first destination. It alone appears to have escaped the smog that smothers our planet.

Melody: Then maybe I'll find some trace of my mother there..

Zeku: Your journey will be filled with obstacles. I began instructing you in the arts of Mantras at a very young age. Their power will be of great help to you in the trials that lie ahead. Well, I guess this is it.

The expositional buffet of ellipsis and extraneous commas finally ends. Zeku exits the frame and Melody is now able to walk around. Yawn, I've played this game 1464683 times it feels like. Sleep for the cheapest possible price in a place we'll likely never return to? Nah. Even when we come back later prices will have risen, I bet. So far this LP is 100% regurgitated RPG LP bullcrap!! That makes me angry.

We leave town heading to Babel. I don't even bother buying stuff. This is so out of character for me you guys.

This chick kicks some serious ass with her rapier thingy. I haven't even opened the menu yet. I guess we have some spells or something. I'm immediately less bored when I notice the enemies appear to be robots that are living out in nature. Huh. Still 79% bored though.

We win after taking a hit, then we fight 4 more of these guys, 1 group of 2 and 2 groups of 1 each. I fast forward through them. That's how stereotypical this game is telegraphing itself to be to me.

Melody hears a noise and it's this guy! He says some stuff for some reason, then leaves.

These other people are Narshe/Narche guards. My interest in this game is now back down to 15% because turban-headed ostensibly bad guys.

Did we see that guy?
>Yes.
>No.
