A Diary of Disposable Ninja's Descenet into Madness: Dead or Alive X-Treme 2
This isn't going to be like other LPs you may find. For starters, there's no video or pictures. If you want to see videos or pictures of DoA, honestly they're not really hard to find. I might throw up a picture or two of my Achievements to let you know I'm making some progress.
No, this is an experiment. An experiment on myself, to determine the effects of of a completion run (or as close as humanly possible) of Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 on the human mind. To wit, just as Artist Bryan Lewis Saunders created self-portraits of himself while on various types of drugs, I too will be creating a self-portrait of myself after every successful completion of a "Vacation" (14 In-Game Days) in DOA:X2. Vacation 1: Christie Part 1 Achievements Unlocked: 0 As you can see I've already completed my first Vacation. It does not seem as if I am suffering any negative side-effects yet. Crap art aside. And, as the title suggests, for my first character I've chosen Christie. More to follow. |

What? Why... Why would you do this to yourself? Is this a cry for help?

Vacation 2: Christie Part 2 Achievements Unlocked: 0 The game has begun to take its toll. Well, the Music has, anyway. I'm going to have to do something about that. A man can only listen to cheery pop music for so long before he starts to contemplate bashing his head open with his Xbox. I'll burn some musics onto said Xbox so I can at least listen to music I actually enjoy. I'm finally starting to get the hang of the actual volleyball part of the game, in no small part due to the fact that I realized that I had been playing it wrong during my entire first vacation: turns out you play with the A and B buttons, not the A and X buttons as I had somehow gotten into my head. That's the thing about this game, though, it's really spartan when it comes to the UI. I suppose it's not so bad during the Beach Volleyball, but during the mini-games (such as tug-of-war, water sliding and... uh, "butt battle"), it practically makes them unplayable. Nothing says "fun" like immediately losing a game at the start. It's also worth noting that I'm still playing as Christie, and I probably won't stop until I get one of her achievements. Now, certain characters don't get along with others in this game based on their back stories. Ayane and Kasumi, for example, don't get along well because of their rivalry. Christie and Helena don't get along because Christie murdered Helena's mother. She'll water ski and play volleyball with Christie, sure, but Helena won't hang out with her. Unless you happen to randomly partner up with her at the beginning of the vacation. Which is what happened just now at the start of Vacation 3. |

Vacation 3: Christie Part 3 Achievements Unlocked: 0 Yeah, the eyes look a little weird. I kept trying to make them look right, but that's the best I could do. I don't know why. They're still not perfect. Anyway, this game is a lot better than I originally thought, you know? Like, there's this hidden complexity to it. All the girls have their own likes and dislikes and personalities that really start to show through in the game. Like, Tina is always close up to the net, and Kokoro plays really timidly. There's also a Poker mini-game, and that makes their individual personalities shine even more: Helena is fond of making big bets, even when she has jack-all for a hand, whereas Kasumi is will only really get into the game if she actually has good cards. I've decided to put Christie on hold for a while, mostly as an experiment. I was curious to see if when you start a new vacation with a new girl, they would keep all of the items you had given them in the previous Vacation. And they do! I picked Lisa, and she's wearing the red bangle, butterfly hairpin and red sling swimsuit I gave her. I think I'm going to go back and play some more. |

So when you finally recover your sense of self-respect and want the horrible thing cast forever from your sight, I'm planning to pick my own masochistic LP project back up, and since I don't have the hardware to check out that Star Wars thing, this here abomination would actually be pretty good* for rounding things out to cover all 3 current consoles and a variety of genres.**
* For very questionable values of "good." ** How the hell would you classify this anyway? Sports? Porn? Dissolution of Self Respect (DSR)? |

It's kind of similar to the Monster Rancher or Princess Maker games, or the time management aspects of Persona 4. You're given 14 in-game days to do as much as possible, raise as much money, acquire as many items, gifts, swimsuits and accessories. Each in-game day is divided up into a morning, afternoon, evening and night. Thing is, once the 14 days are up, you can start a new cycle, with all the money and items you acquired the previous cycle. The only thing reset are the relationships you bought with gifts -- though the characters will still have their gifts. It's kind of like Groundhog Day. |

I took this game too lightly.
You see, in order to get the Achievements, the girls have to become friends with each other. In order to become friends, the girls must exchange SwimsuIts. each girl has over thirty or so swimsuits unique to her -- lisa has over thirty, kasumi has over thirty, tina has over thirty. so in order for lisa to become tina's friend, all of lisa's over thirty swimsuits must be in tina's collection, you see. in order for a girl to be friends with all the other girls, this means she must have over 240 swimsuits in her collection, not counting her own. in order to complete the game you need over twenty-five hundred swimsuits in circulation. Vacations 4 & 5: Lisa Parts 1 & 2 Achievements Unlocked: 0 i just can't get the fucking eyes right, you guys. Last edited by Disposable Ninja; 02-22-2013 at 03:45 PM. |

Did... did Akitoshi Kawazu design that mechanic? Because that sounds like the sort of torturous tedious busywork that his games tend to feature. Hm, maybe not. If it were Kawazu, you'd have to spend countless hours grinding to achieve even one of those goals--what's that? You do have to grind countless hours? Okay, yeah, going with the "Kawazu" theory then.

No, because he could explain it in a sentence.

Well, yes, but:
That's not a sentence. The individual words are English, but the meaning is naught but madness. |
