narcodis plays things on youtube
YOUTUBE CHANNEL
I've wanted to start doing this for a while now, and I found some free time to begin. Any advice from other people who do this? So far I've played through Life Force on the NES, and am now working through Metal Warriors for the SNES. Is it fun? Interesting? Does it suck? Any feedback is good feedback, don't hold back please. |

I watched the first of your Life Force videos, and I liked it. You play through a tricky game pretty well, and even though you seemed a bit nervous at first, you didn't run out of material halfway through the video or anything. If you did, I guess I didn't notice!
If you have trouble in the future with playing and talking at the same time, or coming up with things to say, you might consider post-commentary instead, so you can concentrate on doing each thing separately (and edit out any unflattering moments so you can look like the ultimate Game Master.) |

I've only watched the first Life Force video so far.
Mainly you sound like you're new to this, which you are, so my main advice is "keep doing it, and get better". You're already ahead of the game because you're not singing the music, abusing savestates, have HyperCam boogers on the video, or playing a game that 10,000 people have already played. Also you sound really laid back, which is my preference when watching LPs, though that's more a matter of taste. There didn't seem to be a lot of dead air, at least not an excessive amount, but if you're worried about it (and don't want to do post commentary) one thing you can try is to keep a list of talking points nearby. Not a script, exactly, and not necessarily game-relevant information (although that's nice to have! I liked hearing that bit of Life Force's history). Just jokes and things you can work in at a glance whenever you feel that looming "oh crap i havent spoken for 18 seconds, wat do". One thing I really like is that you jumped straight into the game, rather than dicked around on the menu while doing your intro. The intro itself felt a little uncomfortable though, like you weren't sure how to get started. I've learned that the best way to get started is to just get started. Have something prepared (not necessarily scripted or rehearsed, just ready) so the first twenty seconds get you straight into the game and the commentary. |

Thanks guys! I deeply value your input... serious.
I definitely have much to learn, although it's fun just to do this stuff, too. |

No problem.
Never stop giving funny but appropriate names to things. "Here's the bacon" got some laffs out of me. |

Alright, so I'm done recording Metal Warriors, thinking of doing Blaster Master next.
It probably won't change my mind either way, but is Blaster Master too done-to-death already? What do you all think? |

Depends on how you look at it. Are you doing this to draw in people, or are you doing it more for your own fun? If you're absolutely desperate for viewers, find less common things. Otherwise, I'd say just play games that you like and/or know a lot about. I finally got around to watching your first Life Force video last night, and it was pretty good. Keep it up!
Then again, anything on my channel that isn't Super Talking Time Bros 2 tops out at about 20 views, so what do I know? |

Just play what you want. If you pick a game because it's popular (but you're not really into it), or because it's obscure (and so you think it'll stand out, even though you're not really into it) it will show in the LP.
No, the internet probably doesn't need another Super Mario World LP. But if you really love Mario World and you can make the video fun then it won't be "just another". Maybe the internet does need Narcodis Presents: Super Mario World. Does that make sense? |

In any case, I'm not going to play Blaster Master just because it's popular or will attract viewers, I'm playing it because I fucking love Blaster Master! And uh, I did a test play-through and then recorded the first two areas last night. Stoked to get this one underway. So expect that right after Metal Warriors is uploaded and everything. |

Or you can buddy up to a more established LPer and get a name drop or a co-op LP to give you a boost. You know, networking and all that. Then I'm going to pre-emptively consider this a job well done. I could never get into Blaster Master myself, so I'm looking forward to it! |

Up next: a megaman game that brickroad already did once. |

I'm only good at a select few of them. But this one is among my most favorite games besides that.

If I were to LP Mega Man, it would probably be 3 or 4.
Because of nostalgia. |

I've technically done MM3 twice now, so this must mean either 10, X2, X4, Powered Up or 5(GB).
...I've done too many Mega Man games. =( |

Telling Narcodis about my tendency to try to force the X4 boss intro text into the music accompanying it has CHANGED HIS WORLD.
My job is done. |

Hey, narcodis, A) the Metal Warriors LP is boss, B) you have video four in your playlist twice.

I don't watch many LPs so I don't have much constructive to say. But I did really like that Mega Man X4 video (9/12). You seem to really enjoy the game and that makes the LP more enjoyable, plus you can articulate your thoughts well enough. Of the few LPs I've seen, I never liked ones where the person murmers or stutters through the whole thing. Plus there's not a bunch of breathy microphone feedback.
So I guess I'm trying to say it's well enough put together and your commentary is interesting and most importantly intelligible/audible. tl;dr--I liked it. |

Yeah, yeah. I went and watched you play it as zero after I recorded all this.. and then said to myself, "oh, hang on the other wall..."

Another one bites the dust! But now I wanna know what the gems do! I mean, there was a counter at the beginning of the last level... that's gotta mean something!
