Unhappy Nearly...done...

That’s him casting Thunder on us, not Aigis getting angry at our party.

And here is Cura’s animation.

Have a pause screen! Yeah, I freaked out, and wanted a pic off his death animation, so Pause screen! After the fight…

Sol: Just who are ya, pops? (Don’t use slang, Sol)
???: I am Elgo, a wandering prophet. (No. Your Job card obviously states Red Mage.)
Glaive: A prophet, you say? Sounds just like what a snake after the Crystal would say. (Glaive with the actually sound thinking! But slightly paranoid.)
Elgo: More importantly, who are you young ones? (And Glaive is ignored. Awesome. Minus points for coolness Elgo.)
Aigis: Luxians sent to examin the recent disturbances. (So Luxians is now a word. Find a way for that to be used in normal conversation)
Elgo: So the Crystal is nearby. (These people may just be the ones.) (those aren’t my words)
Aigis: Let us travel together, then.
Elgo: I would be most grateful. (You don’t need our help dude. Have you seen the spam you’re carrying?)
Aigis: You know its not for your safety, but to keep an I one you, right?
Elgo: I know.

New Party member!

…aoefhonvwosafnpjp!!!

Burn! Burn! Mwhahahahahahahaha!

Hello Moogle! These guys will be in dungeons for restocking. This one has the choices from Lux. Also, for the endgame, memorize where these dudes are for a nice prize.

And here is the Temple!

How holy looking!

Hey its demons! That white one is casting something on us. They are fairly easy to kill, especially with Elgo’s –ara spells.

Oh, and here is Elgo’s stat screen. Notice the low VIT. MND is boosted by a staff.

This is a light armor. It also boosts speed. Or was it vitality? It goes to [Glaive] and his leather armor to the [Bag].

Goes to [Glaive]. No there isn’t a theme here or anything!

Hey! Giant rats from FF VI’s Opera scene!

Goes to [Sol].

Unhappy Maybe I should have studied instead...

Poor Glaive is getting Critically hit by another demon-thingy.

[Sol]. Note, this has no Magic Defense, but only 1 defense over the hat I got earlier.
There was also a chest worth 600 coins near the stairs to the south.

[Diana]. A tent to the south room. Up the right stairs.

This. Why is this here. There isn’t an upgrade here or anything! This can be bought.

This however, is our first Claw weapon, and as such goes to [Glaive].

Silence’s animation. Notice that Elgo PUNCHES spells. Pretty awesome.

YEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!! Finally! This is a Fusion Ability, or F-Ability. Time for Mechanics Update!

Fusion Abilities
So some abilities and spells in this game, when they are both held by the same character, can learn an entirely new ability! Magic Bomb, the only learnable F-Ability in the Prologue, is learnt by having both Cure and Fire, and casting them until it is learnt. It has been guessed it’s a 10% to learn the new spell/move. Note that Aigis has spammed either Fire or Cure since we got him. So yeah. This can suck to get. For some reason, physical moves seem to be learnt faster. Note Special Guest party members cannot learn these. (Only applies to 2 others besides Elgo.)

Magic Bomb: 10 MP Non-Elemental magic damage on a single target for about an –ara spell level of power. (Fairly useful. Especially now.)

So yeah, the game does tell you when the chapter comes to a close. How nice of them!

How the F-Ability list looks. It also tells you what abilities/spells/moves are required.
Have some stat screens.

I wonder who has the least survivability…

(It’s the Crystal! And it’s fine.)

(Cool. Let’s go home.)
Aigis: Sir Elgo, you mentioned you also perceived something was amiss? (What, now we trust him? Did they have a pep talk or something and I missed it?)
Elgo: Well I did—but the soft reverberations have ceased.
Glaive: We can only hope so.
[Screen Vibrations/Quaking noises]
Sol: What’s goin’ on?
Glaive: The Crystal!
Aigis: Get back!

(He looks friendly.)
Glaive: Wait! We’re on your side!

(That is a lazer. Huh.)
Diana: It’s going to shatter!

And it’s boss time! With guest boss, Watchbeast! Strategy: He’s weak to fire, so Fira spam, after Protect anyway. Magic Bomb from Aigis, attack from Sol and Glaive, and Cure’s from Diana.

Arrow Sorry about the huge shots. Shouldn't have happened.

He is susceptible to slow.

All Black magic gets that green glow at the caster’s feet.

And with that, I hit the HP barrier required, and he uses Soul Despair, setting all health to single digits. Yeah, I missed it.

Welp. Looks like we are all failures.

Suddenly!

A spoony bard!

A FF I name reference prostitute stripper dancer!

Yep. Definitely a dancer.

A…thing. Frankenstina?

The dude that was chased only had his left arm.

See? And hey, they just said his name game!

Smile Finally!

A drunkard.

(Anyway, back with the destruction of a corner of the planet.)

Diana: It’s cracking! (Really? I couldn't tell! )

(Huh? Spontanius wall combustion?)

(I sense angst, wall-breaking, shyness, and arrogance. Match up with the newbies!)

Sol: Whaddya talkin’ ‘bout!?
???: The Crystal is ours. (Plot twist!)

Blue screen! And that sounds bad.

Oh yeah. Definitely bad.

And there is the free part of the game!

So there we have it. Next time, we get a look at the after-life? The world kinda blew up and stuff.

Okay, now we won't be getting the jobs for another update, so no choices from you guys yet. However, I would like you'll's opinions on how I did this update. Later ones will not be this long, but I want to know if its necessary to write ALL the NPCs words. Just let me know. Also, will you want to know about the plot jobs ahead of time, so character development can be chosen from now, or will I "surprise" you with it them as we go.
Thanks for all your support!

I have to wonder, is there a contingent of Japanese players who really loved those bats in FF4? Because they're all over The After Years, too, and I've never seen anything but scorn for them (rightfully so) on English-speaking boards/blogs.

This game is definitely aimed at those of us who played FF1-6 and wanted a new game in that style. I recognize pretty much every monster we've seen thus far.

Matoya was a witch. FF1 had a dancer. Is there any real reason to namedrop Matoya besides the name being more recognizable?

I've gotta ask: why is Diana getting the short end of the stick here, equipment-wise?

When I played the Prologue, I slapped a decent sword and armor on her and moved her to the front lines. Having an extra sword arm made short work of the ordinary mobs, so I never had to bother using her as a healer in-battle except during the boss fights.

I guess I mentally imposed the white Mage job on her when I played. It's cool though. You guys will be choosing what she is later.

As for the question on Matoya, yeah, I'm going with it has to do with the name being recognizable, since there is no mention of backwards sentences.

Darrel you're crazy. The bat's drain takes like a second tops and isn't annoying in the slightest. It's nothing like VI's nonsense.

Clearly someone must make an animated gif of this game's vampire attack and play it next to the animated gif of FF4's vampire attack.

Hmm. Maybe you're right. I must be thinking of a mob later on. One that causes all bats to use it at the same time.

Talking I'm Baaaack!

Hello one and all! And welcome back to Let’s Play FF Dimensions! Last time, one of the pillars of the world shattered! Thankfully, this world is real, so no one is whining to their dead mommy about it. Now, let's head to the past.

By the way, everytime you finish a chapter or tale, this screen appears. It gets annoying fast.

So we come to…an airship?

What, you thought we were playing a FF game that DIDN’T have a Cid?

Well, doesn’t he sound jolly. He is most similar to FF XII’s Cid. Take that as you will.

(Yep. The jerk is strong with this one indeed.)
Soldier: Yessir!
[Below deck]

A mysterious girl. Unique sprite? Check.

Interest in outdoors? Check.

The true beginning! (For $2.99!)

Oh. No slave labor or anything, right?

…He is dead, isn’t he?

Oh! Another girl! And she’s in black. Don’t think emo though…

(Think comic relief! )
Soldier: It’s high time someone made you pay for that attitude! (Oh Snap!)
???: Enough. (Oh?)

Cid: What’s your name, girl?

(Meet Alba! My favorite female, with Glaive as my favorite male. Don’t judge me.)
Cid: Alba. Common enough, I suppose. (Really? How many Albas do you guys know?)
Alba: Listen here, pal. I’ll have you know that I’m anything but common! (You have no idea)
Soldier: How dare you talk back to Master Cid! (This guy totally has a man crush on Cid. )

Yep, that’s a head up there. Apparently people sleep on their faces here. How do they breathe?

Default Characters 101

(Wow. Look who’s mister elitist.)
Cid: And what is your name?

(Dude, he just woke up. He had a drinking party with everyone last night.)
Soldier: Answer when Master Cid addresses you!

Nacht. He is so personality-less that he needs plot help to say multiple sentences. Also, German for night. How nice, what with Sol's symbolism.
[Cid looks around]

Soldier: Where’s your brother, woman!? (Maybe he’s sexist too?)

(I’m calling BS Alba. Points for total teen girl attitude.)

(Outside: The adventures of insanity and flowers!)
???: (Someone is coming! I will contact you again soon.)

Cid: And what’s your name?

Dusk! For some reason, my Ipad decided it should be Dusky. I don’t even…

Soldier: Master Cid has a new task for you.
Dusk: Me? You mean…us? (Dun dun dun!)

So what do we know now? The Empire is evil. As always.
And we get control of our party! Let’s look at screens!

So Nacht has the lovely !Flee ability. Works as normal, instant escape from battle, unless it's an unescapable one. Helpful, but not really necessary.
Alba and Dusk have Level 2 Black and White magic respectively.

Stat wise, Nacht is a fast melee attacker, Alba spams Fire, and Dusk is meant for Cureing everything. This isn’t set in stone though.

Also, this is our party’s equipment. Just the worst armor in the game. Well, I guess I can give them some left over Bronze Equipment…

Or not. Huh. Not even a potion.

Lower Man on Left: No matter what they do to me, I’ll never give up hope!
Upper Man on Left: They treat us like animals! Working us to the bone until we’re no longer of any use.

Man to right: Go away! They’ll whip us if they think we aren’t working!
Man to right of him: (*Huff, puff*) Are we fated to spend the rest of our lives as common slaves?

Default Sorry About the Image Size

Inside the house to the top right.

Old Man: could do something about it.
(Bottom center house.)
Boy: I know Papa will rescue me! He’s big and strong!
Girl: T-they killed my d-daddy! (*sob, sob*)
Old Lady: The poor dears…If the Empire would just set the children free, then I would feel my suffering wasn’t in vain.
(There is a tent in the pot in the top left.)

(Bottom right)
Other Soldier: Oh ho, so you’re the chosen ones. Master Cid’s got high hopes for you. (Is that proper grammar?)

Bottom Soldier: Looks like you common gutter trash are lucky enough to ride the airship. I bet you want to know where you’ll be going.
Upper Soldier: Cid’s airships give us complete control of the skies, and soon, everything below as well. (This Empire isn’t so good know, is it?)
Woman: It’s only a matter of time before the entire world falls to the Empire…

(Upper Left)
Man in Bed: (He’s so exhauseted he might as well be dead.) [He might have needed that Antidote…]
The other guy just says leave him alone.

(Upper Mid)
Man one above: (He’s so exhauseted he might as well be dead.)
Man above him: They’ve finally released me from the day’s toils. Now please, just let me rest.
Woman in center of room: They forced me from my home in Capo, taking all that I held dear. I would give anything to have my old life back. (Those jerks!)
Man in top right: Just a quick nap, I beg of you!

So, that airship…is the only option. Guess we’ll go!

(Welcome to Sarah’s! Yeah, don’t know why. And now we talk with everyone.)

Soldier on bottom left: What do you mean, “Where are we going?” You’ll know when we get there!
Alba: A bit too cramped for my tastes, but at least it’s warm!
Dusk: Why do you suppose they chose us?
Soldier by stairs: Where do you think you’re going!?
Soldier in center: Leaving Harmonia is something you slugs only dream of.
(Sarah just repeats if we’re okay. Now that we finished…)

(I love you Alba.)

Cid: Assuming that you win your freedom by succeeding in your mission, or course.
Dusk: And that will not be easy, will it?
Cid: Far from it. You might say your very lives are at stake. (Ah snap)
Nacht: We’re unarmed. (Good point)
Soldier: Here. Equipment.

This is basic heavy armor for Nacht and a sword (in his left hand), light armor and a whip for Sarah, and robes for the twins, with a rod and a staff. Also, some potions and phoenix downs.

(There’s a theory that the translation team too some…liberties with lines in this game. I feel this supports that train of thought. It makes the game so much better).
Cid: Something like that. (See? Cid thinks it’s cool!)
Dusk: You cannot possibly mean for us to…steal the Crystal from Lux?
Cid: And what, pray tell, would you know about this?
Sarah: I thought the Empire had an alliance with Lux.
Cid: I’m the one asking questions here.
Nacht: Why? (Huh?)
Cid: Why what? (That’s what I was thinking!)
Nacht: Why us? (Oh. I guess that’s logical, since they already know the Empire is corrupt evil.)
Cid: Well, unfortunately, it wasn’t my decision. (Ouch. Cid with the burn.)

Default It shouldn't do that but...

The soldier there sells items. You only got about 1000 gil though, so…anyway, here’s Sarah!

Yeah. Level 2. At least the Whip allows Paralyzation to occur. Also, she comes with no abilities, despite having slightly more magic stats.

Well, I feel safe.

Next time on Let’s Play FF Dimensions: Does Alba and Friends get through the Temple of Doom, or is it game over for them all? Tune in next time for sights, sounds, and reused boss fights!

[Again, sorry about the image size. I repeatedly check photobucket, and it says they should all be 400x400. I'll fiddle with it more later. I know it's short, but I'm tired, and have had no time to transcribe all this bloody text. Anyway, the next update will be, at the latest, on Monday. See you then!]

Default I never said which Monday!

Hello, and welcome back to some Let’s Play Final Fantasy Dimensions! Last time, we took over a new party. This time, we climb a mountain!

Actual climbing! Wow!

The enemies are the same as the caves from before. Nothing too fancy.

Alright. Nachts kinda needs some extra defense.

Again, just the cave’s stuff again.

At least Sarah gains levels like crazy.

I would be worried about these guys, but they have under 100 HP. (Also, found an antidote, and a tent.)

And hey! This is cool.

And Alba gets it cause she’s the best! (And I felt like it…)

Dusk gets these cool shoes for increases hps (heals-per-second) in fights.

Saves…that I don’t need. (And a Hi-Potion north of it)

This was on the next screen. I gave it to Sarah, because she keeps dying on me.

And here are two characters sleeping…because Glaring does that. Maybe it’ll work on my teachers…

And hey! Free 750 gil! Free ether! (I used like 5 during my 1st playthrough) Also, a phoenix down south of here.

Hello! An average weapon worse then swords…going to Dusk for added damage.

[Nacht’s] As we leave the mountain…

(A cutscene!)

Dusk: So that is the fabled Crystal Temple.
Sarah: You’re not really going to go through with this…are you?
Alba: Well, we’re not exactly jumping for joy about it, sweetie. (Sweetie?)
Sarah: But---
Dusk: Should we communicate this to the Luxians?

(Oh Alba!)
Sarah: How can you say such a thing!
Nacht: There is one way.
Dusk: Right. We must make the Empire believe we are working with them.

And here we are, at the north side of the Temple.

And inside, free inn! Grinding for Sarah, if you some how would need it. Did I mention level ups occur fairly regulary?

Default Next Up, FF Dimensions 2: Alba Wars!

Oh, someone is building golems.

More [Nacht’s]

And how does this dragon fit in here?

Can YOU spot the puzzle answer?

If you said, “Tap the unlit candle to make a path to [Nacht’s] Iron Armor," you were right!

And Dusk gets his old armor.

Hey! Under it is a tent.

Sooooooo many rooms.

That isn’t a Pink Flan. Which is cool, seeing as Pink Tails are traded for a semi-useless dagger, and are thus worthless. Also, Nachts is confused.

[Sarah’s] Ether in another room. Upstairs is a Main Gauche. [The Item Bag’s] No [Sarah’s] Which means into the front row with her!

Uh oh. This means it’s boss time. Right?

(…Maybe it’s like the FF IV wall?)
Alba: The Empire just trapped us here? Without so much as a goodbye kiss? (Oh Alba!)
Sarah:… (Most people’s reactions, I guess)
Alba: What’s wrong?
Sarah: I heard a faint scream! From inside…(Inside where? We’re already inside!)
Dusk: A faint scream? (The only noise in abandoned Temples!)
Nacht:…(Our hero!)

(Who then goes and breaks down the wall! Dusk follows)
Alba: It’s Sarah, right? You seem to be more than just a common waif.
Sarah: Just—let’s go.

(Huh? What?)
Alba: We’ve got comp—wait, what?
Nacht: Too easy.
Sol: Whaddya talkin’ ‘bout!? (The grammar nazi in me wants to kill Sol.)
Nacht: The Crystal is ours.
Alba: What IS this thing?
Nacht: Take it out.

Oh. It’s a re-used boss fight. Already? It’s been like 1 hour! Same strategy as before, spam Fire, use Slow, and heal as necessary as before.

Dusk’s hair kinda blows in the non-existant wind while casting spells.

Oh, but when he uses his SOUL DESPAIR move, the party just keeps trucking. Already broken souls, or just that badass? You decide. Anyway, after much healing…

Fire kills it! Like it should.

And levels are gained!

Diana: AAaaaaaaahhhhh! (Well, that was loud)

White screen of death!

(Huh?)

Sol: We’re—we’re alive!...!!Where’s Diana! And Glaive---
Aigis: I don’t kno
Sol: No, they can’t be—They’ve gotta be alive! Come on Aigis! Let’s look for them!
Aigis: Already on it.

Well, the world is so screwed, huh?

Elgo: Yes, somehow. The Crystal deemed fit to save us.
Sol: But now it’s smashed to bits.
Elgo: Who could they be?

Dusk: Where are the others?
Sol: Drat! We’ve been blocked off and can’t reach them. (Huh?)
Dusk: I know my sister is alive. I can feel it. But what exactly happened?

Sarah: I-I think so. Thank you.
Sol: Save your thanks! We’ve gotta find our friends first!
Sarah: You’re right.

And now they start sparkling!

Default Finally!

Worst health in the game!

Best job in the game!

Worst job in the game! And best Speed!

Important for the best Fusion-Abilities! Also, best health in game! And best Vitality!

Magic #SPAM

Only basic melee job worth using endgame!

And Dusk’s main job!

Aigis: I’m not sure I follow.
Sol: Yeah, what’s this all about?
Elgo: You are the Crystal’s chosen ones.
Dusk: Chosen?
Elgo: “When darkness veils the world, four Warriors of Light shall come.” This prophecy has been handed down by my people for generations.
Warriors of Light, huh? That’s pretty cool! (…Manchild)
Aigis: Be that as it may, it’s our duty to return to Lux and report this tragedy to His Majesty.

So. Jobs. I’ll have it updated…soon. See you next time!
(If you like, you may start job picking for each character now. However, I ask that one person be either a White or Red Mage for healing.)

Post Little Info wall

JOBS 101

Elgo: Hello, and welcome to Elgo’s Job explanation! Today, all 7 jobs will be explained, as well as job mechanics. First, here is our party:

Now, what does my screen say? Well, it states I can’t change jobs! That’s only for the warriors of Light of course! The second option is important though. As you see in say, Sol’s job screen, there are 3 job levels per job. Now the maximum is actually 20. The way to increase job level is to trade one job-point (JP) for one level. This is naturally gained throughout the plot, giving 69, or 4 max jobs worth of levels. There may be an item that gives more though…

Now, what does gaining job levels mean? Well, every time you gain a job level, all states (except for one special job) increase by 1%. So at job level 10, you have a 10% increase. Very helpful for HP and MP, and help high stats get higher. Also, at specific levels, jobs will gain abilities, skills, or passives. This is predetermined, like in FF V. However, it is NOT every level, so some times you might gain a job level only to gain and extra 1% increase.

Also important to note, is that all jobs (except 2) start out with only 2 ability slots. A third is gained at level 10, and another at 19.

Now, how do the stats work? Well, the numbers on the left are what your stats are now, while the right-hand ones are what they will become.

The Jobless…Job is unique in that the only modifiers to states are the character specific ones. (They exist, though they are so minor it only affects early game.)

HP MP STR SPD VIT INT MND

Aigis +10 +10 +3 +0 +3 +1 +1
Glaive +30 +0 +4 +1 +3 +0 +0

Sol +20 +5 +3 +3 +2 +0 +0
Nacht +20 +5 +2 +5 +1 +0 +0

Dusk +6 +12 +0 +0 +0 +3 +5
Diana +4 +13 +0 +2 +0 +2 +4

Sarah +2 +14 +0 +2 +0 +3 +3
Alba +0 +15 +0 +0 +0 +5 +3

(Not: Character specific bonuses are applied AFTER all other multipliers (e.x.Job boosts, job level % increases, etc.)

Also, they have access to 4 ability slots from the get-go as well as the ability to equip every weapon in the game.
These are: Knives (Weak, but SPD boost), Swords (Average w/boosts), Holy Swords (Holy-elemental, Strong w/VIT+MND), Dark Swords (Dark-elemental, strong, STR), Katanas (Strong, SPD), Spears (Average), Axes/Hammers (Strong, but inaccurate), Claws (Average, usually elemental), Staves (MND boost), Rods (INT boost), Bows ( Average, Back-row compatible, inaccurate), Instruments (Weak, Back-row compatible, inflicts a status ailment) Whips ((Weak, back-row compatible, can paralyze), and thrown weapons (Average, Accurate, back-row compatible).
They can also equip all armors: Shields, (Light) Hats, (Magic) Hats, Helms, Light Armor, Robes, and Heavy armor, as well as all accessories. (They also gain an extra 2 ability slots once every job by that character is mastered.)
The reason the class is lackluster though, is its lack of stat boosts. It hurts it just too much. I mean, just compare stats above!
