Red face You see a burnt human hand- Let's Play Xenocide!

Hello, hello, everyone, and welcome to my first LP- Xenocide! (No, it's not the book. Shush.) Xenocide is a neat little futuristic roguelike with an intricate combat system, guns, grenades, robots, and aliens- pretty much everything you'd expect from a futuristic game. It's still essentially in beta, but it's free and definitely worth a try.
Let's delve right in, shall we?

We're naming our character Generic Space Marine because... well, he's a generic space marine. That should be reason enough. You'll notice we have 4 trainings to begin with- Combat, Medical, Scientific, and Mechanical. We're going with Combat for now, since it gives you the average gameplay experience.

Here we go, the first level of the game. You'll notice some things just from this first screen:
1. Doors are automatic.
2. I have some of my inventory listed down at the bottom of the window.
3. I had the window size too small for the full Xenocide screen for my first run because I'm a moron. It gets better.
Let's take a closer look at that inventory, shall we?
---------------------
You'll notice that I have a pistol- It has full ammo (8/8) and the little 1 by the side means that I have it on primary fire, i.e. it consumes only 1 ammo per use. I also have some rudimentary starting armor in the from of my leather jacket.
--------------------

Exploring the corridor to my right, I find an Organic Rubbish. As far as I know, these are exactly that- rubbish.

After picking me up some rubbish (maybe I can throw it at an enemy or something), I show you my inventory. In my personal equipment slot, you'll notice I have a knife "readied". This means that I can, at any time, press 'e' to switch between by current and readied weapon instantaneously. I also have 36 spare ammunition for my pistol, and a booster pill which bestows a temporary stat buff.

That yellow 'm' down there is our first enemy of the game- according to our targeting system it's a "Rabid Prankster". I imagine it spends most of its time throwing pies at people and then biting them. Doesn't seem too dangerous.

Now that it's gotten close to me, I equip my knife and prepare to do some whoopin'.

The prankster proves to be more difficult than I thought! Fortunately, a few 8mm rounds point blank pacify the creature. This clown won't be custardizing anyone's face anytime soon.
--------
Rabid Prankster:
High damage, but slightly slower than Generic Space Marine.
--------
Unfortunately, it doesn't drop a thing.

Looping around, I find a red thing. Something about its redness causes me to suspect it's a weapon of some kind.

...Let's move on somewhere else. You know, somewhere without human limbs hanging around.

After a close encounter with a Starcrawler, I continue to explore the passage in which I encountered the Rabid Prankster.
--------
Starcrawler:
Low damage, but extremely fast. Running away won't help.
--------

From experience, I believe I've learned that )s are melee weapons or tools. I leave it behind, distracted by a Claw Rat, which I kill with very little effort.
--------
Claw Rat:
Low damage, low health, low speed. If I were to compare them to a Nethack monster, they'd be newts. Claw Rats warrant very little alarm.
--------

Immediately behind the Claw Rat, I find a Starcrawler. I will have to strategize here- if I take the time to reload the weapon, the Starcrawler will gain 1-2 squares on me.

I decide to burn my last currently loaded 8mm round, then melee the Starcrawler to death with my knife. This costs me 3 hit points, and afterwards I stupidly forget to reload. Because I'm stupid.

Only here do I realize my stupid mistake. Knowing that I can't melee a Rabid Prankster to death, let alone when not at full health, I run away to regenerate my precious hit points.

Aaand another Starcrawler appears to delay my progress. Xenocide just won't give me a break.

Another fatal mistake is made here- after getting around the loop, instead of looping around again I decide to venture into new territory. Where, of course, a Starcrawler lies in wait for me.

And, inevitably, this. Despite being far easier to pick up and play than say, Nethack, Xenocide is still just as cruel.

Thoughts on this run:
I blame this on 2 things- the lack of ample supplies near my starting location, and my own blatant stupidity. I, 1) left behind a wrench, 2) forgot to reload my weapon, 3) explored a new area without ample HP, and 4) went backwards into known enemy territory instead of forging forward.

Next run: In the next run, I'll be showing off the Mechanic class, as well as show one of the cooler game mechanics- robot engineering. I hope you guys will take some time out of your busy day tomorrow to watch some more Xenocide! Feel free to leave any criticisms you have on my playstyle, number of images, commentary, etc., and I'll try to improve- this is only my first LP, after all!

Sorry dude, but there's a queue for these things. One which is currently closed to new additions. See this thread here.

Of course, if this is going to be really short, you might be able to fit into the micro-LP thread - see the rules for that thread in the first post. Either way, I wouldn't update again until PapillonReel delivers mod ruling as mod.

Other than that, welcome to the board, and don't worry, you aren't the first person to do this. Not by a long shot. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a new roguelike to go check out....

Lucas beat me to it. Sorry bud. :\

The good news is that I'll be reopening the queue soon (very, very soon) so if you don't want to move this to the Microgames thread then odds are you might get your shot at this sometime in the next month or so. Until then, I'll keep the thread locked.
