Default Almost 700 TurboGrafx CD/Sega CD warning screens

Presenting: the prequel to the Game Boy Color Warning Screens, and the Super Game Boy Borders project.

Nine years ago, in an Internet far far away... I came across the Super PC Engine Grafx Warning Warehouse where they showed a bunch warning messages you get when you try to load a TurboGrafx CD Super CD-ROM2 System Card game, on a console with a regular System Card. What really peaked my interest was the myriad of games they didn't cover, and thus began this seemingly endless project.

Shortly after starting, I realized that there were also warning messages for when the internal memory (Backup RAM) of the console was full. And then I thought, if TGCD games have these messages, then maybe Sega CD does too? It did. But the discoveries didn't stop there. After a few months I find that there are also warning messages for when the Backup RAM is corrupt, for both consoles! And then that there are also TurboGrafx-16 games with warning messages. And if all that wasn't enough, I also figure I might start collecting all the Super Game Boy borders, and the Game Boy Color, NGPC, WSC, warning screens too (which were thankfully already posted a few weeks ago).

But the craziness is now over. Let's talk about the good stuff.

Some of these warning messages are drop dead gorgeous. The care that went into drawing, animating, and voicing these would be unheard of these days.
Some contain Easter eggs, like minigames, or the famous joke stage in Akumajo Dracula X Rondo of Blood, or the music test and full bestiary of the Japanese Dragon Slayer. And some are pretty funny too! Check the TGCD Gradius 2, Starling Odyssey 2, and the Sega CD Snatcher for some good ones.

Anyway, after years of on-again off-again work, and almost 700 images with dozens upon dozens of time consuming animated GIFs... I bring you the complete collection of System Card & Backup RAM Warning Screens.

Be aware that some of these images are NOT SAFE FOR WORK, as they contain partial nudity and overly cute characters.

The PC-FX also has warning messages, but I won't get into that anytime soon.

I have great nostalgia for that era of anime art and games that use it. Mostly because they looked so cool and I couldn't play them! This is fantastic.

Man, I just recently finally managed to look through all the portable warning screens from earlier, and now this!

Amazing work as always, Rey.

Thank you Rey for doing the long hard task of documenting the stranger and more obscure parts of video game history!

Thanks, glad you all like it. This is pretty much all I have, so I'll disappear for a few years until I come up with yet another thing.

Maybe a dump of all the PSX, Gamecube, PS2, DS, 3DS, PSP, and Vita save icons/banners? Nah... that will just drive me over the edge.

Oh man, I loved the little PS animated save icons. (Please don't die on our account, Rey. Take a vacation or something.)

Since I doubt I'll ever finish this one, here are some of them, unsorted:

I did some research about it, and there doesn't seem to be a way of easily extracting the icons from the games. There is a tool to extract them from a memory card, but you first need to have a save on it. And lots of games have multiple save icons, random or location-specific. So yeah, I'm not going to even try

I'm impressed by all the games that didn't just reuse their system card screen for their back-up RAM screen. I really like the RAM warning for Yawara! and both screens for Startling Odyssey II. And the screens for Snatcher are great on both systems. Poor Metal...

As someone who's chipping away at a never-ending project of my own, thanks for the years of hard work, Rey.

Finally had time to actually look through all of these - there sure was a lot of softcore porn on TurboGrafx CD, huh? And regular games of many genres with splash screens that look like softcore porn anyway.

Also lots of fun classic anime licenses, though. Speaking of which, totally yoinking the Macross: Eien no Love Song screen for my Macross tumblr (with credit and a link back of course).

Actually, I don't think there are any hentai games on the TGCD. You might be thinking about the PC-FX?

They may not have *actual* porn in the TG versions, but I saw a screen for Doukyuusei in there and my circa-1996 hentai images folder says that's definitely a porn *franchise* in general.

Insta-edit: I was curious and googled around until I found this MobyGames entry which claims the TG-CD indeed includes nudity and explicit sexual situations, so...

Edit to the edit: Actually the description on that site is the same across all platforms, but the screenshots from the TG-CD version contain nothing explicit (as opposed to the PC-98 ones which do), so it's likely the actual sex/nudity was removed for this version and the System Card error screen is actually the raciest image from it!

Rey, you're amazing. If it wasn't for your efforts we would have lost a staggering amount of vg history.
