Ok it's not baking but this is pretty much the desserts thread, so - for my wife's birthday we made these no-bake bars where (I'm going by memory here because I wasn't the one looking at the recipe) the bottom is crushed pretzels and peanut butter and powdered sugar and a little melted butter all stand-mixered together and flattened out in the bottom of a pan, and then over that you pour a melted mixture of Ghiradelli 60% cocoa chips and more peanut butter and then just stick it in the fridge 'til solid. Omnomnom so good.

I made this Sarlacc Pit Bundt cake and it was just as goofy as you'd expect.

For buttercream I did the Smitten Kitchen version, but used plain milk instead of bailey's.

And I did a few shortcuts noted below:

I bought madelines instead of making them, mainly because I don't have a madeline pan but also because doing all that to just use 2 cookies seemed crazy.

Since I didn't make madelines I didn't have the batter for tentacles, so I just used some sugar cookie dough rolled into really thin tubes. Baked them for three minutes, then right when I took the cookies out of the oven I pinched them to cool into a more tentacle-like shape. They aren't the crisps shown in the picture, but this way everyone got a tiny cookie on their slice which was way more fun.

I let the first batch of the tentacles go for 7 minutes which turned out to be way too long and they were a little burnt but that was great for the cookie crumbs so it worked out!

I also bought salted caramel sauce even though it's easy to make... because I didn't want to wash any more damn dishes.

This was also the first time I've ever used the bundt cake pan I got as a bridal shower gift almost a decade ago. They're hard to grease!

Borderlands is not a game I enjoyed all that much. I enjoyed it at first but it eventually felt like a Sisyphean time suck. But that's a good cake.

About the berries on the cake or the fact that this is for an 8 year old's birthday*?

*My assumption based on the number of candles.

It's a overly gory image but it's made excellent use of edible materials with minimal alteration.

And if it IS for an 8 year old, then we can add "disturbing" to my gamut of reactions.

If there's one thing I can say for sure about kids these days, they love violent videogames and the nazi youtubers that talk about them!
