Them's some big shoulders on that Varia!

The shoulder fins on the Amiibo are wild!

I think that's the first logo since Metroid 1 that's been based on the head-on NES logo instead of the tilted Famicom one. Sign of a Western developer, I guess.

I like the classic Varia fins, but come the hell on. Those shoulders are worse than the original Prime.

This looks surprisingly good.

At the very least, the Metroid fights look less aggravating than AM2R.

Samus was also an amiibo. I don't have any amiibos, or a system/peripheral to use them with, but...I think I want those? At least the Metroid one.

The only things I'm wary of about this are those scripted attack animations that sometimes follow a melee counter, and that set of new powers Samus has (if only because it seems like there's a lot of them). AM2R was already pretty close to the remake Nintendo would have made ~10 years ago, so I don't mind that this is so different (and it seems like they didn't change the most important aspects, from what I saw).

I didn't see the start of the stream, though...was there any talking?

I'll still contend that the streamlined Other M design of the power suit was better than earlier iterations, but this one takes the bulky-ness so far in the other direction it comes back around to being good as well.

I imagine the Amiibos will share data with Metroid Prime 4, but I wonder to what capacity. The first Prime could import the Snot Suit from Fusion, but I don't remember any reciprocal bonuses. Prime 4 will undoubtedly have new suits and abilities, and MSR's... what were they called? Aion skills? Maybe they can be imported into the Switch...

Didn't connecting to Prime unlock NES Metroid on the Fusion cart?

You could also unlock the original Metroid using the Fusion-Prime link. I don't think there was anything to unlock in Fusion though.

Those "shoulders" shall be referred to as "Samus's lady balls" and they are enormous.

My memory might be hazy, but I recall that something I liked about the original was that you got all of the suit upgrades from areas that were clearly Chozo ruins. It looks like maybe that's not the case this time?

I strongly did not like Mirror of Fate, but I did quite like Lords of Shadow, so I'm willing to give these dudes from mercury a chance.

Woah! I am all over that Metroid. Probably gonna pass on Samus unless it does something wonderful... I've already got plenty of Samus on my shelves.

Metroid II is probably my favourite game in the series, and my reasons for that are very specific and I suspect not in line at all with what they're trying to do with this remake, so that's my reason #1 to remain wary. After that, it's the perfect storm of MercurySteam being involved, because they 1) made one of the least inspired exploration platformers in the world four years ago with Castlevania: Mirror of Fate 2) through all their work have consistently displayed an absolute inability to write and depict women in any meaningful fashion. I guess that makes them good partners for Nintendo with the way their last Metroid project went.

I hope for the best. There's just a lot of precedent to the contrary.
