Oh hey, there's a real Metroid! It's been a long time since we've had one. THIRTEEN YEARS, wow!

Looks like they're incorporating some of the more actiony elements of Metroid: Other Mission. Hmmm!

Since this is a remake, they're less likely to make her look like a chump than they did in that game, too!

So I'm pretty excited about this, but does anyone get Other M vibes from the gameplay? I really want to believe, but until this hits we can't be sure it'll be good.

Hot take: Other M had good gameplay (pixel hunts aside).

I saw this thread title and immediately knew what it was about.

No joke or sarcasm, saw it went "that must be the new metroid thread."

It also reflects my exact reaction.

It went from a bad time to be a Metroid fan to a great time to be a Metroid fan in the span of a humble hour.

The automap they're showing definitely looks like it's going to be pretty close to the original M2 in design. Probably not a bad thing; I was JUST THINKING the other day about how I wanted a Metroid 2 with an automap.

Really more of a Zelda game than Metroid, imo. The controls shoulda been analogue, too.

Also: map pins!

I'm... I'm very excited about the map pins.

I can't help but be underwhelmed by this. This remake looks like it goes against everything I liked about Metroid II, and then incorporates some Other M-esque influence in making Samus into a stylish action hero. All of this was perhaps inevitable, but it's disappointing nonetheless. It's not really the Metroid that I crave.

Plus, it's developed by MercuryStream?! God.

I'll still keep an eye on this. I'll probably still even buy it. But my expectations are fairly low.

I must say, I kind of thought it was weird they went after AM2R so zealously. They usually only go that hard on a fan game when it is too similar to something they are working on, like SMBX.

Good, but not good enough to make up for all the dumb story crap piled atop it. And Team Ninja had done 3D action better with the Ninja Gaiden games preceding it.

But I'm glad there's a new 2D style Metroid and that Nintendo didn't completely abandon the good aspects of the MOM snafu.

They just showed off a Metroid amiibo as well as a new Samus figure.
