Of course Mario prefers Pauline.

He strongly believes in rights of the vox populi, Princess

Given the levels are all supposed to be pretty big, I don't mind this. Besides, the last Mario game I didn't eventually max out the life counter on was...SMB2.

Lives are useful in the crazy multiplayer games because you need SOMETHING to kick you out of the level if you suck too hard, but single player they are pretty meaningless.

I'll miss the 1UP iconography, though.

On another note, is anyone else seriously hoping they do for Sarasaland what they did for Big Ape City here?

Anyone else notice the Classic DK cabinet art Pauline as part of NDC's graffiti?

Lives are good in Mario.

Lives are what you get when you get 100 of a thing. Lives are why you want to chase down a Green Mushroom.

Lives are good.

The sick music that sounded like some OG Japanese fusion jazz near the end of the trailer got me more hyped than anything else.

SO HYPED DANGIE!

Have you not heard One Up Girl before? They debuted it at E3, and I'm not a huuuuuuuuuuuge fan of it, feels sort of like knockoff Katamari, but it's cool.

I assume he's referring to the more drum-and-bass styled thing with the Hammond organ sound. It was also at E3 but you basically never heard it except between Treehouse presentation bits. The one that sounds like Sonic music with some MM2 and Order of Ecclesia touches.

Funniest thing about the Sonic-ish styling: this is the song for the planet wisp stage

I played this at a Gamestop demo unit

Mario's moveset is killer. Speedruns for this game are going to be nutty

EDIT: People are already speedrunning the in-store demo

With the amount of practice that clearly took I have to wonder how long this guy stood in the store not letting anyone else play.

From an interview about Breath of the Wild:

Quote:
After playing Super Mario Odyssey, I noticed the structure of the levels and the search for Power Moons were reminiscent of the sandbox system of Breath of the Wild. Was there any contact between both teams regarding this?

Satoru Takizawa: Actually no, when it comes to exchanging about the game, we didn’t really have that kind of contact. I have an example, by the way: Motokura-san, the director of Super Mario Odyssey, came to see us a month after the release of Breath of the Wild and told me: “Takizawa-san, you really overdid it with your game”. And I wondered what he was talking about. And then he explained to me that our game was so rich and complete that it made things difficult for him. The bottom line is there’s an influence between us when our games are released, but not so much during development.

That being said, when he came to tell me this, I saw in his eyes that he was very confident in his Super Mario Odyssey, and was determined to beat us now.

I saw someone playing SMO with the two joy-cons, and using one joy-con to throw Mario's hat, which is cool and all but I'm not playing that way. I am going to assume Pro controller support is there.

From my time playing it, it seems the only move that requires waggle is throwing Cappy either straight up or down. Everything else can be done through buttons.

The ad shows someone playing it in full portable mode, which means there's non-waggle controls, so I assume the pro will work just fine.

It seems for the most part they are really trying to have multiple control options for switch, so other than pure motion games like 123 Switch, I think k they learned their lessons from the Wii's restrictive controls.
