thank god jlaw decided to do dark phoenix or else people might find the x-men film franchise confusing

And thank heavens she did; her performance in Apocalypse made that film the modern classic it was!

speaking of mystique, x-men evolution is so ridiculous because it's like "you need to come to the xavier institute" but then the kids have to a normal high school where mystique is the principal and charles is just, like, totally ok with this?

Jennifer Lawrence is the worst Mystique, (part writing, part performance)(she's so clearly over it) but I would not expect an amazing cinematic Mystique even if the part was recast. So I say to you, JLaw: whatever, that's fine.

Started reading PAD's X-Factor. Some glaring mix-ups in the first few issues. M gets colored like Siryn and Layla randomly develops Rahne's Claremontccent. (Which briefly disappeared in the old new New Mutants series, but Peter David wanted it back)

Twitter's algorithm blessed me with this recently, too. Good.

Barely related to the X-Men, (not gonna search for the Marvel thread) I've been recently reminded that Black Bolt's full name is Blackagar Boltagon, which is flawless and inspirational.

Jean's back, Wolverine's back, everybody's back. Except Scott. Though technically he's back from the past, and so is Jean, and Wolverine had been back from the future for some time now.

It's like that old saying goes, "No one stays dead forever"

(Except for Uncle Ben, I guess)

Wait, is old middle-aged-looking-but-still-old Wolverine back again now or is it still just alternate-reality-Wolverine-but-old-looking-Wolverine? Either way: I'm appalled.

Who is the most numerous x-man still living? Jamie Madrox would never count and is ambiguously dead. I would like to say Beast. (Young Beast, Dark Beast, Beast Classic)

Cable / Stryfe / X-Man could tie him if the latter is still bopping around somewhere.

He is, but I wouldn't count any of them as the same characters. One's a clone of the other, and another has a different mother, (Jean Grey instead of Madelyne Pryor) so I'm not sure they're genetically identical. (maybe they are; comics are very stupid) Whereas the Beasts all shared life experiences up to a certain point. (well, I'm not sure when Xavier died in the AoA, but whatever)

By the way, for those of you who are pleased by the name/concept Bloodstorm: she's back! in X-Men: Blue. I think she's different from old Mutant X Bloodstorm, who I suppose was destroyed in the disgusting Secret Wars continuity clean-up, (I really hate that!) but she's still Mohawk Storm, but a Vampire, which is all that really matters.

In his time in the middle east, where he met Magneto. So well before he founded the school.

Current Wolverines:
Laura Kinney (Formerly X-23, currently Wolverine, for now)
Old Man Logan (Logan... from an alternate reality future, who started as something but is now basically just Wolverine Classic without a costume)
Jimmy Hudson (Wolverine's son from the Ultimate universe)
Logan Classic (Newly resurrected Logan, now with an Infinity Gemtm - please look forward to Avengers: Infinity War, coming in April 2018)
Weapon H (Hulk, but with Wolverine claws)

Laura's definitely getting demoted, just like all the other New and Diverse Legacy Characters.

Awful. But if we're counting clones:

There are still 3 Stepford Cuckoos, right? (maybe they've killed another) They're Emma's.

Genetically altered clones:

Whoa! Dangerous! So much I don't know. They can't compete in terms of numbers, but I'd just like to note that Longshot is a genetically altered clone of Shatterstar, and also his father. (I'm not sure Rictor and Shatterstar have been seen since the end of X-Factor, where they were bouncing around the timeline/multiverse. Hope they didn't get crushed in Secret Wars!)

Okay, I just looked up Weapon H and am reminded of how much I loved Romulus. Gorgeously idiotic character designs. I'm not currently following Weapon X because it's Greg Land plus Old Wolverine, but I look forward to this crossover when it shows up on Marvel Unlimited.

also since we're talking about clones: madelyne pryor was resurrected into the body of a teenager who was playing host to lady deathstrike (the teenager only hosted deathstrike so she could meet and fuck cyclops) by the enchantress, who did so at the command of john sublime's alien bacteria sister

i'm starting to think the x-men franchise is a bit convoluted

Okay, so I've been reading Wolverines and it was not good. But I loved how it ended: Mystique decides to let the multiverse explode rather than resurrect Wolverine. Relatable!

I also liked the bit where Deadpool donned Wolverine drag. That's it.

Fallen Angels and Jack O'Diamonds get a shout out in this ep of X-Men Xplained. Cool. I'm reading Silver Age x-men right now and everyone (everyone!) was right; these are not amazing comics. I resent this chore that I have no reason to be doing. 6-9 panels stuffed to the brim with witless nonsense on each page, until Professor X dies. (now there are occasional splash pages)

Just got to Steranko's issues, which look great, but I've stopped reading the text. I've read Paul O'Brien's and the Real Gentlemen of Leisure summaries, so I get the gist. Mostly. Some of the writing is certainly charming. (the Coffee-a-Go-Go bits in particular)

BTW where do you prefer your X-Men vacation? Space or Antarctica? I've loved the Savage Land since I was a child, but I've always been a little cold on space stories and the Shi'ar.

Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire helped sow the seeds for several years of really fun cosmic Marvel stories. The savage land is fine as a weird setting for stories but it never seemed that important itself.
