Johnny Thunder has a supporting role in that Watchmen crossover that I keep forgetting exists.

Like how old games look better with scanlines.

Okay, Brainaic is adorable. But like, Brainiac already existed so why waste six issues with Psycho Pirate? (Who is psycho pirate)(Who is brainiac)

Who’s this bad boy?

Wally, please stay away from envelopes before I craft my own personal discrediting Beto tweet.

Psycho Pirate is a guy who can control emotions. But he also eats emotions, and emotions are like bad drugs for him. He also looks pretty dumb and I don’t like him.

Brainiac is an evil robot who was programmed to learn everything in the universe. But he also destroys the planets he studies, partly so his data can never be out of date and partly so he’ll be too valuable to destroy. He’s a jerk.

That Bad Boy isMr. Mind. He lives on Venus and hates Captain Marvel. He’s the Worlds Wickedest Worm, and I obviously love him.

I've always liked the core JSA as characters a lot more than the JLA. Much less omnipotent, generally much cooler looking (Sandman, Hourman, Dr Midnight, Dr Fate, Alan Scott, The Spectre and Wildca, all super cool) and the adventures of seniors tends to make for good superheroics when done right. They've sure got a dud cast of villains, though. I wish DC had put Captain Marvel with the JSA instead of E2 Supes

Was there ever an Earth 2 Swamp Thing?

Almost forgot, the whole reason I was thinking about all this is that Psycho Pirate is mad lame.

Wildcat is legit one of my favorite superheroes. His superpower is being a boxer. (Also, he later for cursed to have 9 lives like a cat.) He became a superhero because he saw it in a Green Lantern comic. He is always the first member of the JSA to join a fight. He is great.

Also, he has a kitty-cat motorcycle.

Rate on a scale of 1-10 for truthiness: Johnny Thunder's super power is that he has a Stand.

Brainiac is like, what if V'Ger came from Krypton and was a dick.

Absolutely agree on the looks, and I've always had a fondness for their Flash too, goofy helmet and all.

Also, Psycho Pirate was actually pretty good in Morrison's Animal Man.

I don't know about the classic JSA being less omnipotent. The Spectre is part of that team and he can do pretty much whatever he wants. Johnny Thunder has a genie that will grant any wish. Dr. Fate is a part of that team.

I do love the JSA though. I started doing a close read on my blog about the late 90's-2000's series by Geoff Johns/James Robinson/David Goyer, but only made through about a quarter of the series. Maybe I should make a thread. I've been feeling the itch to read it again.

Yeah you're right overall- I think I just meant that the team is mostly comprised of minimally-powered mystery men types, which I like.

Also, a little Googling revealed that Earth 2 Swamp Thing is... Alan Scott? Huh.

Really depends on what form you're talking about. Classic JSA, ya. Home for Earth 2 refugees JSA? Gods among men.

N52 Earth 2 is pretty fucked up. It was going so good until it wasn't. I now like to pretend it didn't happen.

Yeah, classic JSA only, for me. The extended cast/All Star Squadron/Infinity Inc additions are all pretty uninteresting IMO.

The three I cited as extremely powerful were JSA members in the 40's. The absurd mix of power levels is what has always interested me about the team. Green Lantern is very powerful, no matter if he is the 60's space cop or the 40's magic man. Also on the team is Wildcat, who is a boxer, and Dr. Mid-Nite, who is basically proto-Daredevil.

I still can't get over how fucking awful N52 Earth 2 turned out. It was my favorite comic for like a solid two years. Everything was going great until the mind-rape, body-horror-modification hit. And then they decided you know what? Let's just blow the entire planet up who gives a shit. Well, I certainly don't give a shit, not anymore.

Just for clarity, and because I love this aspect of him, Brainiac-5 is Brainiacs great great (great?) grandson/model revision who is more org than cyb, and is a superhero in order to make up for the fact that his entire family tree, stretching for thousands of years in either direction is made up entirely of jerks. He is a jerk too, but only in a smarmy know-it-all way, not an apocalyptic space robot way.

My favourite Brainiac-related character is B-13, the evil CG Brainiac from the even further future who created the Y2K bug, and eventually got himself a daughter he named Brainiac 9 because I guess that’s just how numbers work in the year 4000

Well, he traveled back in time first.

Plays the long game, Brainiac does.

We have Brainiac to thank for classic supes in the N52 in the weirdest most circuitous manner so there's that.

I truly was not expecting to enjoy Marv Wolfman’s Vigilante at all, let alone considerably more than New Teen Titans. This comic is “whack-a-doodle.”

Screenshots later. Maybe.

Okay, I’ll get to Vigilante later (there are tons of actual queer people and they’re all horrible murderers!) but that will be hard, as this panel from New Teen Titans struck me dead.

I'll actually be starting Wolfman's Titans soon, as I have just gotten Teen Titans Vol. 9, making me caught up with all the currently reprinted Wolfman Titans books. Looking forward to it.
