Yeah this album is pretty damn good. I especially like the weird section in the middle that gets kind of......funky (?). I'm gonna repeat last night's experience tomorrow night. Too much fun. I think it's almost impossible to properly listen to a Converge album while sitting down.

Sleep, the seminal stoner-doom band, is celebrating the day with the release of their fourth album— their first in fifteen years. It is very good. You can check it out here, Apple Music and Spotify.

"Giza Butler" is an amazing pun

Man, I haven't listened to this band in so long. The only one I have of theirs is "Deep Tracts of Hell" which is definitely rough and dirty.

I don't remember the vocals sounding this cool. Sounds like he picked up some influence from latter day Darkthrone albums. The first track on this new one is pretty good! Hey the second tracks seems pretty good too.

I think I'm in the midst of a Crowbar phase, sorta. I just ordered me a copy of Symmetry in Black. I'm gonna pick up some of their earlier work as well.

Awful news about Ralph Santolla. He's in a coma following a heart attack, and his life support will be turned off tomorrow.

Love me some Sleep. Though I haven't had a chance to listen to this yet. I'm going to check it out later today.

Also, along the lines of reeeeeally fantastic stoner/doom stuff, I've been stuck on this Monolord album Rust for weeks:

Hey it’s been a zillion years since I posted in here!

Re: The Dusk in Us - “A Single Tear” hit me right in the goddam feelings in a way that it probably wouldn’t have before my son was born. Not trying to be all “IF U DONT HAVE KIDS U DONT UNDERSTAND” but *I* wouldn’t have.

Absolute favorite release so far this year has been the new Homewrecker! It is basically perfect distillation of stuff I mark out for in a handful of different genres (hardcore, death metal, thrash). It became an instant staple in the Garagym. I have queued up “Constant Eyes” for heavy deadlift sets many times.

Anyone else occasionally *really* miss Insect Warfare?

Ok, let's be honest. How much do I need "Sons of Northern Darkness"? I have "Damned in Black" which is ok, but it's no "In the Heart of Winter."

Did you mean “Northern Chaos Gods” or are you asking about classic albums? For my money Sons is an all timer

No I was asking about the 2002 album. I guess I should give it a fair shake, then.

Depends on how like raw you like your BM. I love Abbath, Abbath era Immortal, I, and like Gaahl etc. Sons isn’t as TRVE KVLT as older Immortal, but hits that sweet spot for me.

It's been a while, but of the three Immortal albums I own, "In the Heart of Winter" easily takes the top spot, the other two albums being "Damned in Black" and "Pure Holocaust." ItHoW just has more interesting riffs and....everything. I do like raw sounding stuff just fine, but like, substance is more important than style.

The entirety of Sons gives me goosebumps.

Other news: lead singer of Kvelertak has left the band.

I also get goosebumps from Sons! The whole thing has a steady, surging Celtic Frost feeling that tickles my brain.

Just heard this for the first time the other day and was blown away. They are broken up now, natch.

Wait, Converge dropped an EP on us a few weeks ago? Here it is. I haven't listened yet but I'm just gonna buy it.

I didn't mention it, but I picked it up when it came out. I dig it, although the first track available from the new Pig Destroyer is in even heavier rotation.

For some reason, you mentioning that made me think that, oh yeah, Agoraphobic Nosebleed did some sort of doom EP or something. Turns out it's more like sludge. First time listening to it, today. Yeah, I need this in my collection too.

edit: Ok that new Pig Destroyer song is rad as hell. This is gonna be a purchase, I can tell.

Yeah, I picked that up a while back and once I got past the idea that it wasn't the doomy release it was purported to be, I enjoyed it more.

French industrial black metal about dictators and oppression and it sounds exactly like that. Very oppressive and downright unnerving. Great stuff.

Yeah i got into this after that last Blair Witch movie. That one dude had it playing in his car and i was like "wtf is this"

I have some issues with their image - which is Laibach with less irony.

excellent little tech death/grind album. Essentially fits into "origin-core" (well not enough sweeps) but punchier
