I haven't really noticed this trend, but if you look at Tarkovsky, almost all of his work is science fiction. So ha ha snobs of timeless high art.

There are no such distinctions as high and low.
It needed to be said. |

A lot of movie posters just plain suck. While the Criterion Collection falters from time to time, they understand that less is more and their DVD covers look fabulous as a result. Every movie poster seems designed to cram as much crap as they can into the picture, including a lot of floating heads. The result is a fractured, nonsensical mess. I don't know how many movie posters/DVD covers follow this template.

Also JGL looks weird in that movie, to the point where I didn't think it was him. |

He doesn't really look like Bruce Willis though. They could have tried a bit harder by having JGL pack on some meat for once, dying his hair a lighter color and having the prosthetics look like they can give off that signature Willis smirk.
I also don't even get the plot at all, but eh. |

Most of the prosthetics are on his vocal cords.
I'm excited for this movie, but why would they assign him to kill his future self? I assume the movie explains it, but still, that's just sloppy. |

New Promethius trailer. It's ultra creepy and interesting. Also, it runs in the middle of a set of actual ads and there's Verizon product/logo placement, which is appropriate but weird.

Ah that explains it. I'm surprised they actually went to the effort!
Youtube link for the Promtheus thing if you want to skip that site's ads. I cannot have this movie soon enough. I also like how the trailer is, like, a half step removed from a Look Around You episode. |

Hey, Dark Shadows trailer, got any other jokes you'd care to give away before anyone sees the movie? Or just the ones of the broadest possible lowest-common-denominator variety? Fuggin' trailers, man.
Petty side note: Okay.... "Dark Shadows"? How long did that focus group last? I'm guessing about the same length of time it took to come up with this: ![]() |

You realize that Dark Shadows is based on a horror soap opera from the '60s, right?

At some point in his life, inevitably really, poor ol' Tim Burton walked into a Hot Topic. And he looked around, and just kinda saw his whole unique personal quirky style condensed down to this creepy teenybopper fakey-goth brand, and on that day, Tim Burton died inside. I don't mean he became deeply embarrassed, as one usually refers to how a given situation made them "die a little inside." I mean his inner vital force truly was completely snuffed out, then and forever. There now stands a hollow soulless shell where once was Tim Burton. Feeling nothing and simply going through the motions of life for all eternity in a meaningless void. Johnny Depp of course never had a soul to begin with, being a homonculus constructed by a young Burton as a versatile movie prop. All that said though, I still kinda want to see yon new Dark Shadows thing. It looks like it has a halfway amusing premise in spite of being a blasphemy against a weird old soap opera I know people who were totally into it. And soleless self-parody Tim Burton can still crank out an entertaining movie. |

Googleshing, you have some weird axes to grind. Dark Shadows looks like it has a lot of broad humor, but so did Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands and Pee-wee's Big Adventure, and those are modern classics.
Anyway, even if you don't like the look of that, Frankenweenie's trailer makes that look fantastic, so it's still a good year for Burton fans. Plus: Para-Norman for the hat trick (it's not a Burton movie but it's by the rest of the Nightmare crew). God, mid-90's Wee Wolfgang would be jizzing himself. |

They did just come out with that enormous, complete series box set... the one that costs $500 and is like 470 hours...
Also it sounds like the movie is going to be less wacky than the trailer makes it out to be anyway, which is cool. |

It's on Netflix. I just checked out a random episode, and it certainly is a forty-five year old daily soap opera.

Magic Mike trailer is awful. I guess I should have known better considering it's about male strippers but I figured since Steven Soderbergh was behind it, it wouldn't seem so insipid. It's the trailer granted, but it looks like every romantic comedy out there. This will supposedly be one of his last movies before he retires? How can you be all disenchanted with cinema when you make something like this?
