Default TTBC February 2017: The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher

Quote:
The Princess Diarist is a 2016 memoir written by Carrie Fisher, based on diaries she kept as a young woman around the time she starred in the 1977 film Star Wars. The book is the third memoir Fisher wrote, in addition to four novels and a one-woman Broadway show. It is Fisher's final book, as she died five weeks after its release on December 27, 2016.

The book describes Fisher's affair with co-star Harrison Ford in "cringe-worthy", albeit educational, detail. At the time of the relationship, Ford was married with two children and in his early 30s.

Dangit, I took a risk and got Wishful Drinking from the library and the hold list is too long for this one. Oh well.

Long story long, in my GoodReads review: here!

Long story short: I blazed through it quickly and, despite a slow middle, enjoyed the whole thing. Enjoyed? Sort of? 40 years of fan voyeurism on her young-adult self pervade the whole thing, and Fisher plainly acknowledges this.

I'm about halfway through. Some of the passages make me think she knew she wasn't long for this world.

I was disappointed there wasn't more Star Wars anecdotes, like, what did she think about the reveal that Luke was her brother?

I could never get a hold of the darn thing! This is a reminder to me not to pick books when they or their authors are in the news! Makes it very hard to get ahold of.

So how steamy was the Harrison Ford thingy?

It was very uncomfortable to read and made me feel bad.
