I'm excited for this particular writer taking the reins of Captain America, but it still rankles that Sam Wilson never got, and will probably never get, a chance to really shine as Cap without being hampered by editorial.

And his last outings involved being pitted against a team of villains encapsulating Spencer's idea of SJWs, then literally giving up and GTFO'ing when NaziCap took over. While he had a nice heroic moment at the very end, it was because everyone else spent several issues shaming him into coming back.

The rationale for why Cosmic Ghost Rider went cuckoo is so perfectly simple I feel dumb for not thinking of it: left alone for a bazillion years with nobody to punish

Oh man, that's exciting. I'm worried though: does that mean his Storm series isn't happening?

That's a good question. It was announced a long time ago to have not shown up yet.

Nick Spencer is doing Amazing Spider-Man now.

This means someone at Marvel has apparently said "Hey, let's put the guy who made a mockery of everything Captain America stands for at exactly the wrong moment in American history in charge of another flagship character!"

I thought being stupid was DC's job.

Looking forward to Spider-Man beating up antifa caricatures and yelling that punching Nazis is wrong.

There is a constant amount of stupidity in the comic industry and Marvel has been hogging it for several years now. It is a pendulum and will swing back sooner or later.

I'm fine with Marvel and DC playing ball with that. I dunno what I'd do if it bounced over to Image and infected The Wicked + The Divine, Saga, Wayward, Monstress, Descender, East of West, Rat Queens, or IDW and Ghostbusters, Jem, and--

oh god no

oh god it infected MASK, GI Joe, and ROM

Run, Jem, run!

Spencer's non-Cap work is fine. His Spider-Man could be fine.

I ordered a copy of the Duggan/Posehn Deadpool omnibus and it showed up today. No one warned me this thing would be big enough to kill two men in a single swing! It makes the Dark Horse Robert E. Howard collection I also got look tiny.

Oh, that reminds me, I'm not very familiar with Zdarsky but I caught up with his Marvel Two-in-One and the guy has Ben Grimm's melancholy down cold.

Thankfully, the fact that Images books are creator controlled means that couldn't really happen, at least not on a large scale.

Read Jason Aaron's Astonishing Spider-Man and Wolverine. I mostly like it, but when you get to the end, the reveal is basically "it's a bunch of stuff that happened" and it doesn't really tie things together real well. It tries to hang a lantern on that and it is fun all the way through, but so much of it is cool ideas that don't feel cohesive and some plot points I guess are cool but are never explained. Did I miss why there is a Phoenix Gun on an alternate timeline? Why did Doom and Ego apparently merge? Did the Small Folk live alongside humans the whole time but also everything else from history was apparently the same up until the apocalypse? Seriously, it's a lot of fun and a special kind of Octo-Good (seriously Octo, if you haven't read this one yet, it is SO up your alley) but it's really frustrating that it ends with a deus ex machina from the Time Variance Authority.

Interestingly, the fact that it is sort of a fun crazy mess makes me think of 70's era Marvel, where things got a bit looser and crazier but also had stories that didn't end (for whatever reason) in the most satisfying of ways.

As someone who has absorbed a lot of knowledge of Fantastic Four over the years but never really read an FF comic, wow, Marvel 2 In One has been great so far. Ben and Johnny are out searching for the rest of the family across the multiverse, the first world they came to this week has Doom being the one to beat Galactus in the original story instead of Reed bluffing with the Ultimate Nullifier and merging with his body to eat literally everything else in the universe other than the Earth and its sun.

I follow very few Marvels these days, but wow did Marvel 2-in-1 shoot to the top of my list very quickly.

I'm assuming it will be cancelled before the end of it's first year :/

Zdarsky just signed an exclusive deal with Marvel, so they may have some confidence in the book.

when you're reading Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #30, watch out for the nod to the three seashells from Demolition Man

It's so weird to think that Zdarsky went from Sex Criminals to Spider-Man in four years' time.

Sorry, I have heard of this cat before but this was the first I've read his work outside of Squirrel Girl.

He wrote Howard the Duck, which crossed over with Squirrel Girl. Squirrel Girl is by Ryan North (Dinosaur Comics).

Can anyone explain to me the scenes at the end of Civil War II where Captain Marvel basically beats Iron Man to death in front of the Capitol Building, and later the President tells her she handled the situation with grace?

It's because it was written by Brian Michael Bends and he is not a good writer when out his strong points.
