We got partway into the second season, then lost momentum after [SPOILER]. Really should go back and finish it.

It's just so goddamn bizzare. I was expecting a lot more, I don't know, creepy/freaky/paranormal/psychological things going on, and it just turns out that everybody's sleeping with everybody else, and there's a really crazy chick who's also pretty good looking. But I have to keep watching.

Spoiler: Season 2 kind of sucks, except for the deliriously awesome last episode.

However the first season of Twin Peaks is some of my favorite TV ever, right up there with The Prisoner. Watch out for David Duchovny in what's his best role ever.

I'm a pretty big Twin Peaks fanboy and there are large parts of Season 2 I can't watch. Windom Earle was botched horribly.

I know right?

The worst part about him is he had the opportunity to be fucking horrifying. The build up to his character was great. Someone with all the talents of Dale Cooper who had gone completely fucking insane.

Anyone else read the articles when the AV Club rewatched the series awhile ago? One of the best hits they made was when they pointed out that Earle was a dead ringer for Dana Carvey in Master Of Disguise.

In all fairness though Season 2 does have a few stellar episodes. There's just a bunch of crap inbetween.

Also am I the only one who thinks Fire Walk With Me is a great movie? ... Thought so...

Hahahaha. The Earle thing is so weird -- the guy was definitely capable of acting better (as when they show that old army interview footage and he plays Earle completely different, more disturbed and shaken) and they set up that whole Brides of Windom Earle plot just to suddenly drop it, even though they clearly didn't have any better ideas in the pile.

Season 2 has some of my favorite episodes, but the second half suffers badly from an influx of Lynch's bad ideas of TV humor (check out On the Air sometime, it's the same stuff as the Season 2 "comedy" bits) as well as the jettisoning of planned storylines due to the stars being uncooperative jerks. Still, given the resources and talent involved, it's hard to see why it came out so badly. If you skip everything from Leland dying to the last episode, you're not missing much.

The last episode is wonderfully successful as a dramatic composition, as well as a "Hideki Anno-giving-the-middle-finger-to-everybody" mind-screwing series immolation. It's possibly the most twisted and angry thing ever broadcast on American network TV.

I watch Fire Walk With Me like ten times a year. Probably my favorite Lynch movie. I lost my DVD when I moved from Atlanta, and I'm not sure if I want to pick up a new one or wait for the (hopefully crammed with extras) Blu-Ray.

Here's a blog by the guy who used to run the Twin Peaks fanzine. It's got tons of supplemental FWWM info. There's also this enlightening script to screen analysis at Dugpa. Both have tons of insight on Lynch's creative process during the production of FWWM.

I love Fire Walk With me, and the links between it and the last episode of season 2 are the only thing that makes the post-shark jump half of season 2 worth watching.

It's pretty obvious that Lynch pretty much quick caring about the TV show after they made him do what they made him do, but when it was canceled he came back to clean up the mess, as can be seen in the gap in quality between the Lynch directed final episode and Fire Walk with Me versus the rest of the terrible latter half of the second season.

I started watching Twin Peaks over five years ago, and due to a variety of circumstances I'm finally almost done. I hope the ending is worth it!

I'm also fortunate enough to live near the Snoqualmie/North Bend area where they filmed the pilot, so I've visited some of the areas featured in the show. The cherry pie at the "RR" (Twede's Cafe in actual fact) actually is that good.

We had stopped watching because we were just bored with the show. I think we stopped at episode 16? Anyway, we skipped the rest and watched the last episode. My favorite scene in season 1 was the dream sequence in episode 3 (not alone in that, I'm sure), so getting a whole freaky, creepy episode like that pleased me. It was very nice to be engrossed in Twin Peaks again after like 9 hours of... not being. My fiancee ended up liking the show quite a bit too, which was nice.

That last shot, while easily predicted, was great.

We'll check out the FWWM next, one of these days.

Has anyone done a supercut yet of the Lodge appearing on other shows or media yet? Seems like that should be happening soon. Granted, I can only think of two examples (The Simpsons and Gravity Falls), but I bet there are plenty.

Let's find out.

Nope. Good thinking, though. And it gave me a good excuse to revisit it.

Also, I got a real flash of nostalgia with the Monsterpiece Theatre opening.

BTW, has anyone posted these pictures yet?

So I just started rewatching this last night after messing with VPNs to get access to it, since it got pulled from Netflix in Canada.

Also going along with the Twin Peaks Rewatch podcast, which is great so far. I was actually surprised they never mentioned the end of shot bit when Cooper and Truman are in the police car going after Donna just after the Roadhouse scene, Truman says "I think we lost them", to which Cooper says "Give me a donut", and the scene ends. That amused me far more than it probably should have.

Got to 3 or 4 episodes and stopped watching it. I'll go back to it at some point.

Um, guys? I have bad news. David Lynch quit. The show is still happening, but the Frost-Lynch team won't be intact. While I'll probably still watch, my interest has plummeted.

I'm crossing my fingers for this being a desperate negotiating tactic as apparently the problem is just money.

If not then fuck the world.

I'll be shocked if the series does actually get made without Lynch's participation. Seems like it would just the wind out of the sails.

Well hell's bells. I'm part of that weird contingent that actually liked the Lynch-less soap opera superbullshit in the second season but I also am really not sure I want the third season to be without his direction as well.

Showtime announced that they're still negotiating with him, so signs point to yes. It doesn't mean they'll work it out, but there is still a chance.

I hope it does work out, because I'm personally not interested in watching a non-Lynch directed sequel.

I don't think it's a negotiating tactic, or at least wasn't planned as one. Lynch privately informed the actors that he wouldn't be directing. This news leaked at Worldcon, and then the Internet Blowhorn turned it into TWIN PEAKS IS GONE FOREVER and set social media on fire. Then Lynch posted his tweets to squash the rumor that the show was cancelled.

If it is a tactic, it's a masterfully manipulative one, which I guess is possible. Lynch has control of the public narrative at this point. The simplest explanation is that he was planning to quit for real, though. Here's hoping Showtime turns it around.

For what it's worth, Lynch co-wrote only four episodes of the original series and directed six. I'm not going to deny that this is deflating news, especially since he directed the original's best episodes, but I'm glad all of the new scripts have his input.

On one hand I want to see Lynch direct something new because he's awesome, but on the other hand I also want to see new Twin Peaks.
