I think the weird yellow support for Link in place of the prevoiusly-too-thin clear one is the most obvious change. I know there has been some energy spent lamenting the difference between highly detailed prototypes and the actual mass-produced versions, but I've not seen enough of a difference to raise an eyebrow.

I've seen some close ups on Twitter and most of the human* characters have kind of derpy faces painted on and the sword people end up with bent swords more often than not.

*Not Mario, he's got weird head proportions.

I saw a display of amiibo at the Nintendo World store today. Kirby, Mario, and Pikachu all looked great. The rest were decent looking, but the human characters like Peach or Marth indeed look kind of meh. Peach especially has an odd face, which is disappointing.

But of course part of me was tempted by the Kirby amiibo and the Villager amiibo. And then I saw some of the Disney Infinity figurines and I want the Donald one even though the game doesn't interest me that much but then why not get the game so I can use the figure and gaaaaaaaah

I don't mind the face seam, I'm still interested in that Yoshi figure. Especially since he's got support in quite a few upcoming games I'm interested in playing. Also I would feel less weird training a Yoshi (or Kirby or a Pokémon) to be a better AI fighter.

And while I know it doesn't come 'til second set, I'm interested in the Captain Falcon figurine primarily for the Captain Falcon Mii outfit in Mario Kart 8. And Link because Hyrule Warriors Spinner.

The colored plastic supports are a head-scratcher, but these look fine. There's not really anyone I want from the first set aside from Kirby. Pretty psyched for Pit and Little Mac though.

I'm pretty excited for these. As with the Skylanders, the paint jobs can vary quite a bit so you've got to check a bunch for the most appealing one. And if you have a sable brush with a good point, you can always touch it up yourself.

I'm picking up Marth at launch; next ones will probably be Villager and Fox. But I totally plan on getting them all eventually and making a nice display shelf. I've been tempted on some of the Disney Infinity figures too, but I have other Disney figures and who knows when I'll have the chance to get some of these Nintendo characters again. Mario and Yoshi, sure. But it's not like they ever put out Star Fox and F-Zero merchandise.

Also crossing my fingers here for Duck Hunt.

No idea how much it costs or how it will work, but Nintendo and LootCrate are offering a subscription for 10 amiibos, across three shipments.

I'm honestly a little surprised that Nintendo got the okay from Sega and Capcom to merchandise their characters. I wonder if it was written into the Smash Bros. licensing agreement or if they had to head back to the table to negotiate it.

Still no Duck Hunt Amiibo...though those are pretty great. I'm already tempted to get the Toon Link and Sheik ones just in case they unlock more Hyrule Warriors content.

Mainly though I'm excited about the figures of Dedede and Meta Knight.

I'm more surprised by the Mega Man Amiibo than the Sonic one. I mean, SEGA did release Nintendo-themed stages in Sonic Lost World.

Anyway, it would not surprise me in the least if Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate used Amiibos to unlock the new crossover outfits. The Mario Bros. and Link ones were already in the vanilla version, but the new one at least adds Samus, Sonic, Mega Man, and Animal Crossing (Well, Isabelle and Resetti) outfits to the mix.

Maybe they just bought Mega Man and Sonic in their entirety. Obviously not true, but a man can dream.

Also, ooooohhhhhhhhhhh! I think my 4 most wanted amiibos are in that group. I am going to buy that Mega Man amiibo so hard.

Close; those are wave three AND four, with Shulk, Sonic, and Mega Man coming sometime in February, following the rest in late January.

I want more of these. I like my Mario one, I just wish the packaging allowed you to slip it in and out for display purposes, as some figures do.

I kind of wish there were cross-sells on the back, if only because I can't remember what's available when.

That Lootcrate thing sounds rather tempting, if the price is good. Not sure I can really afford it, though. With any luck, maybe I'll get a bunch for Christmas.

I was glad to see that was two waves, because otherwise I'd be broke when January rolled in.

Wishlist so far:
[ ] Samus
[ ] Zelda
[ ] Toon Link
[ ] Shulk
[ ] Megaman

Nobody on here has registered excitement for Rosalina amiibo and thus you are all monsters. (Except you, JFink, your excitement on twitter was appropriate and justified.)

Star Mom is the best. THE BEST.

Current plan is to buy a Kirby because Kirby. And Star Mom. And maybe Pikachu and Lucario and Bowser if I'm feeling especially generous with my money, or get very swayed by seeing them in stores. Which could happen!

I hope Nintendo doesn't make each wave in limited quantities, so we can spread our purchases throughout the year.

I believe they've implied that some (read: Mario) will be stocked reliably, others probably less so.

Hopefully Ike turns out better than Marth.

Edit: here it is:

Quote:
The amiibo figure lineup for “Super Smash Bros.” will continue to be released even after this year-end sales season, and we hope that this will help to update store shelves. As store shelf space is limited, some amiibo will remain stocked on the shelves as staple choices while some will be limited-time offers which will cede their positions to new ones once they are sold out.
