The Super Soldier Serum makes him Peak Human strong, but that doesn't necessarily mean he can't get stronger by working out a lot.

This is basically the only time I've cared about captain America but it's mostly not the movies themselves and actually just finding being patriotic but also deeply disappointed in your government relatable.

I don't know, but more recently losing the serum has either made him a weakling (Steve Rogers: Super Soldier) or into an old ass man (Remender's run).

I'm not bothered by Movie!Cap being super-strong, but it'd definitely weird me out if the comics version were, since his whole deal is similar to Batman--a very fit, but otherwise "possible" human who doesn't just get to hang out with gods and robots and aliens, but often hands them their asses because of his wit and skill.

Bats and Cap may not be realistically attainable, but they're still better ideals than a bonafide super-human character.

I don't think their intention was to show him increasing in strength, they've just become more willing to push it.

I find it jarring sometimes though, because I keep forgetting that he's super-powerful until he, like, bicep curls a helicopter. My image of him is still a batman-style "regular human" and I have to keep being reminded that he's actually super-strong.

That all makes sense. And I'm really not a stickler for superhero strength consistency, I was just curious if there was anything in the comics to back up my friend's theory. It looks like it was basically unintentional, but I'm going to stick with the headcannon that Captain America continues to get stronger throughout his life due to his scientifically increased patriotism.

He did turn into a werewolf for a brief period in the '90s.

Honestly the ads have been so lackluster, we didn't need to watch this year's not-so-super Bowl, either.

The empty stadium is evocative, though, and that shot of the SoL is interesting. Why are people docked/camping out there? Evidently some time has passed, but I guess the rumors about skipping to ten years in the future to kickstart the plot aren't as accurate as originally reported.

I haven't been able to stand Batman in many years- his power of effortless deux ex machina is really irritating. Being buff and smart is one thing (well, two things), but the level of technology Bruce Wayne has seemingly invented is too much for me. If Steve Rogers had been on Bruce Wayne's level, his freezing himself and eventual thawing would have been a perfectly realized and executed plan to bungle some evil scheme.

Thankfully, Cap's villain-foiling is still mostly relegated to condescending speeches, frisbees, and sick backflips.

In news that will surprise no one, Marvel's The Netflix is now officially dead.

‘The Punisher’ & ‘Jessica Jones’ Canceled By Netflix; Latter’s 3rd Season Still To Air

rip

While I'm still struggling through season 2 of The Punisher (Billy Russo is boring and I hate him), I feel like most of these shows had been on an upswing lately, so it's a shame to see them all go. Luke Cage and even Iron Fist were marked improvements over their respective first seasons, and Daredevil recovered from the stumble of its second. Jessica Jones took a big dive, but hopefully she can close things out gracefully with her third and final.

I guess Disney are looking at doing individual character TV shows for their movie characters, and word is that Loki's series will have him popping up through human history to meddle with events, which sounds promising. At least this will put an end to the Netflix shows' skittish reluctance to refer to the movies with any kind of specificity. I got footage of The Incident! It's got all your favorites, like the big green guy and the guy with the hammer! And hopefully the new shows will actually have enough material to fill out their episode counts.

So long, Marvel Netflix shows, and thanks for all the hallway fights.

I'm sad to see these go as well. I haven't started Punisher s2 yet but I do intend to watch it and will of course watch JJ season 3, my favorite show in the bunch, as weak as s2 was at times. I enjoyed season 1 so much I even bought the comic books, something I haven't even done with the MCU movies!

Daredevil season 3 had that one hallway fight that was just incredible, holy crap, I kinda want to go rewatch that scene again lol

Samesies.

I knew this was coming and I'm still super bummed about it. Hell, all the other shows got to air their final seasons without knowing what was coming, but JJ S3 had the axe fall before we even saw it. I dunno if that will color my mood when it airs or not, we'll see.

I'm also really curious if the knowledge of these cancellations, even if it wasn't confirmed back when they were filming, affected the direction of the season at all? The very last scene of JJ S3 will be the endpoint of the Marvflix shows, and while I don't expect anything like walk-on cameos from the other Defenders (though there was some scuttlebutt about Luke Cage possibly showing up) I wonder if it will do something to close off this experiment appropriately.

I hope they can find a home on the Disney service with better writers and/or showrunners. The cast of these shows are all largely fantastic, it's just the everything else that's always a problem.

Yeah, I don't know if I'd buy a Jessica Jones as played by anyone besides Krysten Ritter... although S3 of JJ looks to be it, as far as the professionals say, anyway, and it's unlikely any of the cast of these shows would reprise their roles, sadly...

I went into Venom expecting a good-bad movie but I just . . . genuinely enjoyed it? Tom Hardy of course nails the physical comedy of being confused about being possessed by a weird alien. (Even better: He absolutely does not nail his American accent, which I guess could bother some people but I am 100% there for weird America accents.) The villain is basically Elon Musk going around harvesting poor people, so it has clearer politics than any MCU or DCEU film other than Black Panther. It's a genuinely sweet movie where Eddie is kind of a fuckup trying to do better, and you both basically understand why people are mad at him but also root for him to do better. The relationship between Eddie and the symbiote is violent and disturbing while also being funny and adorable.

It's a confident movie that knows what trying to do, and it largely pulls it off.

I caught up on a few more movies in the last month.

Ant-Man. I really wish the jokes landed better. I wish there were more flashbacks with Hank and Janet, or that she was in the opening scene. Also, I think the villain would have landed better if we had seen him before he was crazy. But, I still like all of the characters and it’s an enjoyable movie

Civil War. The Russos can do no wrong. It’s a pretty thoughtful movie, even though it all boils down to a bunch of strong boys who only know how to solve problems by punching. They do a great job of managing a number of different styles and moods from scene to scene.

Doctor Strange. I remember being kind off luke-warm on this, but the special effects are great and the story moves pretty quickly once Strange meets The Ancient One. His power advancement in Ragnarok and Infinity War retroactively make this movie better.

GOTGv.2. A really fun & beautiful movie and I liked that it didn’t try to re-tread too much from the original. The scenes with the Ravagers kind of drag. Looking forward to what they do with Gunn’s script for v.3 (even though his firing was absurd).

Now, Captain Marvel comes out next week and I’m considering whether I should stick to my original plan of doing ~1 a week leading up to Endgame, or just binge the last 5 before Captain Marvel.

Doubtful there's time pressure on seeing the rest before Captain Marvel since it takes place in the 90s.

This is the ONE THING I will terribly miss about the death of Marvel netflix.

Marvel MOVIES are all about insane CGI-aided Fighters doing battles with impossible super power shit. And that's cool! I'm here for it!

But dammit, I NEED my fix of exhausted, barely breathing people struggling to find the will to to stand back up to continue fucking wrecking eachother!
