Also; my favorite subtle running joke is Homers extreme hyper-knowledge of even the smallest detail on municipal politics. Yet he can’t recognize the president.

That show is also the strongest arguement there is for revisiting pre-golden era episodes; it’s been so long since I saw anything from season 3 that I was laughing out loud at the clips they played.
So I opted to do exactly that and I made two important discoveries; you can skip the interminable animated opening to the Season 2 DVDs by just pressing “Top Menu” (I had neglected season 2 for years because of those damn things) and secondly, boy was that a good decision. The show just comes out swinging in season 2.

The first two episodes feel like the more emotionally charged heights that the best of season 1 (like Life in the Fast Lane or Moaning Lisa) had to offer, but with much cleaner animation. Though Everyone is still slightly off model and a number of characters voices don’t sound quite right (still a bit of Matthau on Homer) which makes me think that they may actually be Season 1 episodes that were held back for some reason or another.

Also, there’s a number of jokes that I just plain forgot about entirely that managed to get some legit belly-laughs out of me, especially in the original Treehouse of Horror.

So yes. The Simpsons was always very funny.

I'm repeating myself here, but S2 of the simpsons was such a great surprise when I watched it after so many years. It's good stuff.

The third halloween segment is still my favourite version of Poes The Raven. The German reader is great for setting the mood.

Not to dispute you, but he’s competing against James Earl Jones, so that’d be a hell of an accomplishment.

The first Halloween also has one of my favourite exchanges.

"When you sold me this house, you neglected to tell me that it was built on an Indian burial ground!

No, you didn't!

Well, that's not my recollection.

Yeah, well... all right. Good-bye.

He says he mentioned it five or six times."

In syndication it cut out that joke and the joke where they find the burial ground full of tombs that includes famous Indians, including Mahatma Gandhi.

There have been good, and Very Good episodes throughout early season 2.

However, Bart Gets Hit by a Car may be the very instant the show crystallizes into the Best Thing on TV.

I legitimately can’t narrow the episode down to a single best joke, it’s just wall-to-wall hilarious;

“Mr. Burns, you’ve run over a child”
*sigh* “Give him a nickel and lets go

“Mr. Devil, sir, is there anything I could do to keep from coming back here.”
“Yeah... but you wouldn’t like it.”

“Hey Homer, I heard the boss crushed your kid.”
“...Yeah”

“You see that smudge that looks like my fingerprint? That’s trauma!”
“Am I going to die?”
“Yes you are!”

“Doctor, would you say there’s soft-tissue damage?”
“Sure! I guess.”

“My client would like to remind the jury how very, very rich and important he is, and how he shouldn’t be treated like a normal person.”
“I should be allowed to run over all the children I want!”

“For the next 15 minutes *sniffs back a tear*, one third off a pitcher of beer.

...Hey! One per customer! Domestic only.

...NO SHARING!”

The only things that hold it back is that it suffers from some wonky animation, as season 2 sometimes did, and the swerve into heavy Drama in the last, like, 90 seconds, felt really out of left field. Though it did set up that Moe line, so I can forgive.

Haven’t regularly watched in almost 2 decades Was there ever an episode of Itchy and Scratchy where the cat killed the mouse? Just thought about the cat; feel real sorry for him.

Yes, but they cut away before the ending and “They’re never going to show that one again!”

Also Scratchy technically kills lots of Itchys in this. Though it doesn't stick because Itchy can regenerate into smaller Itchys because magic.

I wonder if decades later ten different uploads of it were put onto YouTube.

Remember this from when I was a kid; hate it like all the others. Justice for Scratchy!

Well there's always The Itchy & Scratchy game. Itchy dies a lot in that, mainly because you play as him and it's yet another crappy 16-bit licensed platformer.

It's Halloween, so even though I've basically stopped watching it regularly, I watched the Simpsons Halloween episode.

I'd say I laughed as much as I cringed. Keep in mind, I didn't say "I laughed as much as I didn't". But still, that seems like a wash, which is better than I feared. Still, the first one had an eye-rolling message about how we are all glued to our phones, the second one had a "You know how women are when they go crazy" joke at the end (though it also had a "Miss Hoover just hating Lisa" joke I thought was pretty funny) and the third one wasn't so bad, but it seemed to be based entirely around a pun first used in "The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult", so you can probably guess the quality of the writing.

Don't despair, Scratchy lovers! Itchy & Scratchy Miniature Golf Madness lets you play as Scratchy and kill Itchy and play miniature golf!

I know the music is annoying, but skip to the ending.
Seriously, watch the ending.

A miniature golf platformer is not an idea I've seen before, so I'll definitely give them credit for that.

And it’s certainly a good use of the license.

Also, Scratchy's "win level" animation is very upsetting.

It’s kind of telling that I watched this episode this morning and, for the life of me, I can’t actually recall what the third segment even was.

The second one at least had a couple of good gags, unexpectedly from Nelson and Ms. Hoover.

Marge can definitely be an asshole just like the rest of the family (not that Helen IronicLastName doesn't kind of deserve it).

Pretty sure we all agree as to what the best range of seasons for the show is, but what is the single best Season?

For me, it’s a viciously close race, but I’m saying 6.

But it’s a choice less like choosing between my left and right arm, and more like choosing between my left and right lung.

Had anyone ever proposed Top 50 Simpsons Eps for the TT voting threads before? That should be a thing!

I would love that top 50 list, but I never watched the show in english and feel therefor not ideal for doing it, so I only offered it as an idea for someone else. I would still offer assistance (like vote counting) if anyone else wants to do it.

Favourite season is probably 4, as it feels like the combination of grounded storylines and jokes that works best for me.
