Default The 80X86s, 6510s, Z80s, 6502s, 68000s, etc. The PC Music Thunderdome

There are too many processor chips to document here, too many sound chips to document here and too many combinations of both. What this Thunderdome is though is a celebration of that certain "sound" or "feel" that comes to mind when we think of PC music.

Consoles get a lot of love on this forum, for good reason, but some of us didn't cut our teeth on a NES or a Genesis. Some of us were bewitched in front of a CRT monitor in our parent's or a friend's parent's study. Trying to type obscure, incomprehensible commands into a parser just so we could experience the magic of a video game.

This thread is a celebration of those old PCs, those games, and their music.

I am not a PC historian. I'm not a musician or musical historian. I will be leaning heavily on you for providing context and background for your nominations. I'm here to facilitate the enjoyment of the music!

Please vote for your choice by using its name or the name of the game or a clever witty saying that is clearly attributable to one of the options on its own line and bolded.

Bracket? Bracket

The Bracket link requires an account because it points to "edit mode".

I vote for Homeworld, 1999 for Windows by Relic Entertainment's "Tears for Karan"

I wanted to nominate music but i felt grossly unprepared and also I would have posted music from The Resident's Freak Show which is hardly a "game"... just wanted to make sure to get this press release out

I can't vote for Homeworld because to my mind the definitive version of Adagio for Strings will always be the performance by the Santa Clara Vanguard that I saw on a football field on a hot summer night a great many years ago. And The Ballad of Chapped Lips Calhoun has some pretty great steel guitar work so I'll vote for it.

Not to tell you how to run your own thread, but are you sure you want to do 72 hours per round? This is going to take a loooooong time that way.

People will have at least 48 hours to vote (I think that's normal) this vote is extended a little bit because I am busy on Sunday and don't know if I'll have time to round it up by then.

Bracket link until the original post is updated.

Also, is there a reason my alts are in but neither of my mains are?

I had to cut some nominations to get it down to 64 (we didn't get enough to make gerry-rigging a 128 possible) i thought I cut your alts but if I didn't I will replace them. Please DM me the ones you would like instead. Sorry Sarge.

The Homeworld track is nice but it doesn't really capture what made Samuel Barber's piece so affecting. Meanwhile Country Music is a fun ditty so I'll go with that.

I want to note that the Touhou song is actually called "A Sacred Lot". "Highly Responsive To Prayers" is the game name.

I love me a good ballad about large country women getting 'sploded as much as the next guy, but I gotta vote Homeworld.

It isn't the best track or the one that I feel captures the nature of Homeworld but, it is certainly better than the faux country song on the GTA soundtrack.

Despite that GTA's Gountry Music wins by a vote
