Yeah, Thor 1 & 2 both had the same problem of trying to split time between Asgard and Earth. Ragnarok was smart to go explore other places finally.

I wonder if there's any chance for Beta Ray Bill to show up at all anymore, what with Thoragnarok killing off Odin and Mew Mew, and giving a prominent cameo to BRB's, uh, head as a former champion.

I dunno how many or which Phase 1 and 2 franchises will end with Avengers: if..., but the outlook for a Th4 looks hazy.

"Thor, except he's a CGI horse thing" strikes me as exactly the kind of leading man concept pitch that dies before you're even done saying it.

I dunno, everyone's a furry in 2017, so I think there's potential for a Thor movie featuring Man-Thor, Lady-Thor (Valkyrie and/or Sif? I haven't seen the new movie yet...), and Horse-Thor. Something for everyone!

edit:

also, the breakout characters from gotg were anthropomorphic tree & squirrel-with-a-gun

What estragon said, plus Ragnarok, a movie that already had the Hulk, found a sizable role for a blue rock man.

Also, a man is allowed his dreams, and I dream of Thor, but he's horse all too frequently. Similarly, I'm going to keep hoping the DC makes a Wildcat movie anything. He's Batman, but not rich, or a detective, or a ninja. He's just an old boxer that dresses like a cat.

This. SO MUCH of the meaning of Lady Thor lies in her being the frail, cancer-ridden Jane Foster, and the sacrifices she makes every time she becomes Thor, that shunting that role to a strong, capable Asgardian would lose a lot of the character.

By Lady-Thor I just meant "a lady who goes around hitting things and flying around in fantasy armor," not that Sif or Valkyrie would literally do Marvel Comics current Jane Foster as Lady-Thor store.

That would now canonically be a retread for the MCU.

For as much as I rag on hero stuff, I've got a soft spot for DC's D-listers. Wildcat is great. I'd also watch an entire series of Shining Knight and Vigilante hanging out.

There are six trades of the book so far. The Thor story is in volume 2.

Hey yo, wasn't there a giant chrome Beta Ray Bill head on the Grand Master's tower? Implying that he's one of the former champions? I'm pretty sure that's what I saw.

Anyway, something I found weirdly disturbing in this movie was Banner falling to his apparent death just before Hulking out in the final battle. He slaps against the rainbow bridge like a wet fish, and the next shot implies that, yeah, that dude is fucking dead. It's played for laughs. But then I got to thinking...he says earlier in the film that if he hulks out again, Banner may never come back.

Is this the filmmaker's sly way of saying that his prophecy was true? We see Banner die, so maybe he really IS dead, and all that's left is Hulk.

I think it was 100% a joke (as Gwenpool demonstrated, even powerless protagonists in comic book narratives are immune to falling damage) and they’re not completely different people anyway, that’s an unhealthy way of thinking about it, Bruce. (don’t read the comics; going by memory of the films in this franchise and, uh, TV shows about alcoholics )

He turns into the Hulk when he's about to die - recall the time he tried to eat a bullet. So the fall wasn't fatal. Probable that "Banner may not ever come back" will be a plot point in his next appearance, however.

Ah yeah. Forgot about that! It's been a long time since I've seen...a lot of the MCU films. I'm actually really excited on catching up with them, though.

That's exactly what's going to happen. From this Vanity Fair Article:

Quote:
Instead of giving Ruffalo a solo movie to explore a full Bruce Banner arc, Feige and Marvel offered the actor a storyline split over three installments.

“If you had a stand-alone Hulk movie, what would you like to do in it?” Ruffalo recalls Feige and Marvel co-president Louis D’Esposito asking him. “I kinda laid out what I thought would be interesting to explore. And they said, ‘O.K., let's do that starting at Thor 3 and carry that all the way to the end of Infinity War. So, you’ll have a character arc. It’ll be Banner’s story. It’ll be as if he had a stand-alone movie, but we’ll bury it in three different movies.’”
They don't have the rights to make a solo Hulk movie without sharing the profits, so this is how they're working around it.
