More like a tractor without the trailer.

I found this last year and it blew my mind. And it explains why the cockpit is so far from the center of of mass.

Interesting! That does make a lot of sense. I thought the maws closed around containers like the ones we see on RL shipping vessels. It also means the frame of the ship, as well as the maws' hydraulics, must be ridiculously strong, in order to keep the mass of the cargo from tearing the ship in half when changing direction (especially for extra-long trains). No wonder they're so durable in combat.

Are the ventral and dorsal laser batteries standard, or did Lando/Han add those? Because if that kind of container is standard, it makes for a hell of a blindspot for the cannons.

I’m pretty sure the lasers are absent in the Solo promotional material.

There's no friction in space though, or other resistance to the movement; the energy to shift the direction of the entire ensemble would be evenly distributed along the contact surfaces of the ship and first container not the entire chain. You'd also have the same amount of stress on the other side of the first container where it links into the second container and so on.

I wasn't thinking friction, but angular momentum. If the mass is moving in one vector, and you only have one contact point at which you apply force, you still need to deal with the inertia even in a zero-g environment. Hence maneuvering thrusters.

Right, that's apparently what the big arc of engine in the back is (maneuvering thrusters generally don't seem to be a thing in SW). It'd just be a really long and slow turn, which is also what happens with freighters in the real world as well.

I remember some crusty old piece of Legends material asserting the guns were aftermarket and maybe illegal.

Looking up the original Corellian freighter to see what it looked like, I found this page, although I'm not sure if the models presented therein were entirely mocked up by a fan or if they're directly based on the new movie:

https://milnersblog.com/2018/02/08/t...ar-wars-story/

Aside from the length of fuselage sealing the gap, I think the mandibles are also longer (the ones on the Falcon we know are at least a good third shorter). So... what was up with the Falcon's original owner and those mods? o_O Does the closed gap make it go fasta? Because it's not docking with any containers or firing any concussion missiles out of its mouth that way.

Also found a Cross-Sections scan here, and apparently THIS is what the Ghost from Rebels looks like when used as an actual VCX-100 freighter?

I can't find any other references to this, so I'll believe it when I see it.

Nah, in the show the Ghost uses magnetic clamps (or something like it) to hold containers up against the bottom of the ship. There's also a cargo hold inside the ship itself.

So I'm usually fine with most scenes cut from movies. But there's a deleted scene from TLJ going around that has a VERY different showdown between Finn and Phasma in which he taunts her about having allowed her own base to be destroyed to save her skin, which makes the Stormtroopers with her hesitate, and she kills them before Finn knocks her off their platform, and it is SO in keeping with her characterization in the Phasma novel that I'm kinda ticked they didn't go with it.

So i rewatched The Last Jedi last night.

It's a little slow at times, and a little bleak.

But damn

This is still my favorite star wars.

Got around to watching this in 4K tonight and I'll be damned if I'm not going to re-buy the saga and Rogue One as soon as they show up in 4K. Amazing stuff.

Also, I've seen the movie four times now and it wasn't until the fourth time that I noticed the foreshadowing when Space Faerie Leia pulls herself back to the cruiser- she splits the hologram of Snoke's ship, foreshadowing the literal split later.

This movie keeps offering up new things on each watch. One of the best of the SW films.

I'm also just done watching the Blu-Ray, and damn if the Hyperspace Bullet doesn't give me the deepest chills every time. Masterful direction with the rising tension all throughout the multiple cuts.

New trailer is so much better.

Also really makes the criticism of “too many brunette heroines in these films!” seem unfair because Emilia Clarke is definitely evil.

I'll believe in the so called democratization of Star Wars universe when Star Wars finally gets some blonde and redheaded heroines.

Also most of these brunette heroines have straight hair. What about some wavy and curly hair representation?

The new Star Tours is crummy. Replacing all of the quirky charm if the original with a cheap Last Jedi tie-in.

In shitty 3d.

Is there one in Disneyland? Because the Disney World version was the same old shit as of September last year. (And by old shit, I don't mean Captain EO.)

Does the ride end by having the Tours shuttle ram Snoke's ship at lightspeed?
