The braves gave the Nationals their first losses and won the series. Hell yeah.

Worth taking a moment to recognize the joy it was to live during Ichiro's professional career. A one of a kind player for sure. I didn't get to watch him much, but even seeing an aging ichiro pass ty cobb's hit total for the opposing team is probably the best standing o ive been a part of.

anyway i think the video i wanted to present is gone from youtube (i'll check niconico when i get home maybe) so let's just appreciate one of the best

For a long time, Ichiro was the Mariners. After Griffey he's certainly the biggest representative of Seattle baseball history.

The braves are doing shockingly well.

So well, in fact, that I'm scared they might try to be buyers, and I don't want them to give up anything too good trying to shoot for the moon this season.

The Yankees are very good at baseball. They started the season 8-8, but they are 18-2 since then, against the 2 best non-Yankee teams in each AL division.

Robinson Cano just got his hand fractured from a pitch, probably out for at least a month, likely more, and now I want the Detroit Tigers to finish with the worst record in baseball, nothing less than that will sate my anger.

They're the only non division team we've lost a series with, and they did take Robbie out.

But the Angels still exist, so I can only spare so much hate for a Detroit team that ain't doing shit this year anyways.

Why do Mariners fans hate the Angels so much?

Fifteen years of being dominated by a division rival, even in years when we're good and they're not, will do that.

Seattle has gone 94-137 (.407) against LA since 2006. If fans consider that domination, it puts how Twins fans feel about the Yankees (26-69 (.274) in the same span) in perspective.

Okay domination may be overblown, but they've managed to be a thorn in the M's side in a way no other team has this century. When it's time for a series with the Angels, it feels like anything that can go wrong will.

I'd imagine it's not unlike how Rams fans felt about the Seahawks from 2005-2016.

I hate all the other teams in the NL East. It's what the unbalanced schedule does to you. You see the same dudes so often you start to just hate them from familiarity.

Mariners fans have displaced bitterness towards the Angels from the fact that our prior GM, who was a total bonehead that we waited way too long to fire, passed up Mike Trout in the draft in favor of Dustin Ackley, who was a major bust. We are continually reminded of this travesty every time Trout does something awful to our team, which is quite frequently.

Then with the Mariners going hard after Ohtani and losing out to the Angels, it was basically the same feeling all over again. Our loss a few weeks ago against Ohtani pitching was very demoralizing.

So yeah, it's honestly not a huge surprise Mariner fans hate the Angels.

That was hardly uniquely Mariners, though. Trout went 25th in that draft. Almost every team had a chance to take him and passed — including the Angels, who took Randal Grichuk with the 24th pick. The Angels took Trout with the compensation pick from Mark Teixeira, who the Braves traded to them for a bag of beans because Frank Wren idiotically insisted on getting a MLB-ready 1B back in the deal.

Ackley was a bust, but at the time he was considered the best position-player prospect in the country, and an easy number two behind Strasburg. It’s not like the Mariners reached for him or anything. There are lots of legitimate gripes to have about Bavasi’s tenure, but the 2009 draft isn’t really a fair one, in my mind...

2009 was Zduriencik, not Bavasi.

I wasn't saying it's not domination, it just shows how insane the Twins/Yankees situation is.

If you go back even further, Mark Langston went out of his way to abuse the Ms for some reason or another during his days with the Angels. When the Kingdome had roof trouble during the strike season, he led the charge to push the league to make the Ms play some insanely long streak of road games, instead of letting them play in the Tacoma AAA ballpark.

This is why it was so great to see Langston get fucking massacred in the 1995 one-game playoff.

This is kind of a funny thing to think about, but I can't really imagine them going to big after anything that's going to thin their system significantly. They seem to have pretty good restraint, so I doubt they're going to sell the farm for a Machado rental. Maybe if they like Bundy a lot? I'm not sure what other controllable players will be available at the deadline that'd help them.

Really though, it's a very enviable position to be in for them, and they've done well enough with moves recently to not worry.

Having seen the Mariners win 9 of their last 10 despite several of their best hitters dealing with injuries, all I can say is baseball is weird.

Well, the schedule gets brutal in June- Yankees, Astros, Red Sox. So I strongly expect things get dicey soon. That said, the fact that they are banking wins in May when the schedule is weaker means they have a chance to get through the month while still being in position to contend.

Mariners win percentage: .621
Astros win percentage: .617

Mariners run differential: +16
Astros run differential: +128

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyway, I went to last night's game and it was a ton of fun.

The games we won have been closer on average, I think is what accounts for the discrepancy.

Glad you enjoyed the game! Nothing like a ballpark on a warm day/evening. A hot dog and garlic fries and a beer or soda...

Man I need to get to a game.
