Leaderboards in the four major sports by metro since 2000:

1. Boston, 11 (5 Patriots, 4 Red Sox, 1 Celtics, 1 Bruins)
2. Los Angeles, 9 (5 Lakers, 2 Kings, 1 Angels, 1 Ducks)
3(t). San Francisco, 6 (3 Giants, 3 Warriors)
3(t). New York, 6 (2 Yankees, 2 Giants, 2 Devils)
5(t). Chicago, 5 (3 Blackhawks, 1 White Sox, 1 Cubs)
5(t). Pittsburgh, 5 (3 Penguins, 2 Steelers)

Boston is the only one with a title in all four sports.

So it turns out the Mariners' FO is toxic as fuck to women and minorities.

I'm glad we've been missing the playoffs because that's one less roadblock to ownership (hopefully) cleaning house.

Yep to this article.

A rebuild like this is probably the only option they have to ever be competitive, but damn if it doesn't hurt anyway. This team spent the last several years constantly trading away their future just to slightly increase their chances of a WC2 and got nothing to show for it, and now we have to deal with a team that's gonna be terrible for several years at least.

Call me spoiled but it's really hard watching all the success the Seahawks, Sounders, Storm and Huskies (football and men and women's basketball) have had over the last ten years and then look at the 2019 Mariners and convince myself I'm excited for some baseball.

My recommendation is to find another team, preferably NL, to root for in the meantime.

No playoffs in seven winning seasons is a rough draw.

There seems to be a lot of support going around for banning the shift, or as I like to call it, "banning intelligent defense".

Update to this, and it sounds really bad.

Its been 2 years since Yordano Ventura died. He was the most exciting young pitcher I've ever seen on the Royals. He was a big part of their 2015 and 2016 World Series teams. I don't know if he was ever going to completely figure it out and be the ace that the team wanted him to be, but it sucks that we never got to see.

The BBWAA announced their Hall of Fame selections: Mariano Rivera, Mike Mussina, Edgar Martinez and Roy Halladay. A great class. Rivera is also the first unanimous election.

Now is the time for Mariano to reveal he took HGH and destroy the BBWAA's most annoying yearly argument forever

This is an absurd amount of money.

If you think that's crazy, you should see the owners' balance sheets!

Oh yeah, it's all absurd.

I mean, if there's going to be an absurd amount of money in pro sports then I'm glad that the workers are making a lot of money instead of it just fattening the owners balance sheet. It's just that when I see a numbers like on Trout's contract it makes me think that society has to have a better way of spending that money, right?

Yeah but Alex Rodriguez' 2001 contract in today's dollars would be worth $592M. I don't know what my point is. Sports contracts are extremely large but they're a distraction from the actual economic disparity in the world?

I wish we could have a fan revolution and reset ticket prices to $1 and adjust down all the salaries. Going to the ballpark is too fucking expensive.

I agree that going to the ballpark is too expensive, but that has nothing to do with player salaries. It has way more with owners wanted to turn baseball into a luxury event and pricing accordingly. And anyway, the big money in the game comes from TV deals and MLB Advanced Media, so it's not like teams need to raise prices in order to afford big player contracts.

Anyway, Mike Trout is amazing and will quite possibly end up being the best player of all time and I'm glad he's getting paid like it.

Also, this is the 2018 baseball thread! It's 2019, you all fogies, we should be talking about this in that thread!
