Hi everyone, and welcome to the second Round of voting for talking time's top 50 numbers. In the first round we had 24 lists submitted with 252 unique numbers listed. Very cool! Now, though, it's time to talk about the best of the best with Round 2.
Below will be a list of the top 146 numbers. To get on this list, a number had to earn at least 25 points (that is, at a minimum it had to be in someone's top 10). So as not to give anything else away, the numbers are ranked in numerical order. Constants have been translated to their numerical values or a close approximation wherever possible. Scientific notation has been used where it makes sense. A few numbers are best expressed with descriptions or names, and those appear as needed. A few numbers are outside the scope of traditional numerical order, and thus appear at the end of the list. If you'd like a constant to be labeled more explicitly, please let me know. If you don't know what a number is or what it signifies and want to learn more, I might suggest asking around or using the all-knowing Bing search engine upon which we all rely daily. Round 2 Voting Rules
All Round 2 lists must be PMed to Bulgakov by 11:59pm Mountain Time on Wednesday, January 2nd Finally, one big clarification: IT IS TOTALLY POSSIBLE FOR A NUMBER NOT ON THE LIST BELOW TO MAKE IT TO THE FINAL LIST. Being on the list in Round 1 is not a requirement to be on the list in Round 2. You might need to alter your votes and/or lobby some other folks, but if you love -20 (or any other number) and are sad it didn't show up below, all it would take is a few interested parties pushing for it. Without further ado, here is the list: -273.15 -273 -111 -40 -11.1 -11 -1.11 -1 0 1.62E-35 6.63E-34 6.67E-11 0.25 0.5 0.6931471806 1 1.059463094 1.11 1.414213562 phi 1.644934067 2 K0 (Kinchin's constant) e 3 3.14 pi 3.1416 3.142857143 4 5 6 tau 7 8 9 10 11 11.1 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 22 23 25 27 29 30 32 36 39 42 47 50 54 57.06 60 64 66 69 72 73 81 86 88 89 98 99 100 108 111 121 135 137 144 151 182 200.6 209 222 255 256 361 362 420 420.69 451 555 666 742 777 999 1001 1024 1111 1138 1337 1729 1976 1985 2109 3030 6666 9000 9001 9999 66666 144000 666666 1000000 3103030 6666666 8675309 66666666 78051120 299792458 666666666 1000000000 1597463007 6666666666 19009094300 66666666666 1000000000000 7.5E+18 1.84467E+19 6.022E+23 6.63E+34 8.31E+48 1000000000000066600000000000001 158962555217826360000 2^77232917-1 Aleph Null Aleph Omega googol googolplex Graham's Number i j omega pi * i |

I can figure out some of these numbers but many of them could stand for all sorts of things.

The number of the BEAT?
I don't know if BEAT submitted a list, but this looks like something he might submit. |

Just a quick reminder: all Round 2 lists must be PMed to Bulgakov by 11:59pm Mountain Time on Wednesday, January 2nd. If you did not vote in the first round, you can still vote in the second round!

If I vote in the first round but not the second, my first round votes are counted for the second round, correct?

That is correct! You will have the exact same votes in round 2 unless you submit a new list.

It has been brought to my attention that many of you apparently celebrated holidays both this week and the previous week. As a result, you MAY have not been thinking much about Numbers which may have led to a low level of second-round submissions.
In the spirit of numerical kindness, I am extending the deadline for second round lists to this Friday, 1/4/19 at 11:59pm Mountain Time. This is your last opportunity to vote for the numbers you love and crave! |
