Default I would prefer not to.

If you need someone to convince you to buy it, don't buy it.

But: Presumably he is aware of Nintendo's first party stuff. Those are the most high profile games on the system. And he still doesn't want one.

So: Just don't buy a Switch.

Estragon you have misunderstood the premise of the thread.

I'm more tempted to get a NES classic Mini and a SNES classic mini.

Sounds like a good idea.

Buy those instead.

Maybe in like 5 years you can buy a revised Switch model and get a bunch of dirt cheap used games you missed. It's a good option for any system you're kinda interested in but not dying to have. (First party games will probably still not be cheap, but some of them will maybe at least be reduced price Best Collections or whatever.)

IMPORTANT TO KNOW BEFORE DECIDING HOW TO PROCEED: What drew you to the Switch in the first place?

On the other hand, there’s a pinball Metroidvania where you play as a bug attached to a ball.

It has a game that is a brawler/match-three hybrid about wandering warrior-chefs with storybook-esque art

I love my Switch, just as I love most Nintendo hardware, but I only play it once every three or four months, at best. Outside of Nintendo exclusives I'm left to wonder what the machine is for, but that's been the case since the N64 anyway.

I don't regret buying a Switch but it has a fairly poor payoff when it comes to investment vs. reward.

I play mine all the time. it's the best way to play video games when your video games TV is also the TV your wife uses to watch TV.

I dont follow at all. Switch has the best 3rd party support for a Nintendo console since forever. There's tons of stuff outside the big Marios and Zelds.

The Switch is great because you can play it in bed.

This is more or less where I land on the question. It is a fun system but not indispensable (hell, I'm not even all that upset about my niece knocking mine over and cracking the screen). Also, keep in mind it is becoming the next Vita in terms of weird, gross girly games.

Well shit, now you've convinced me. I take back everything else I've said about the Switch.

The library, especially if you had a Wii U, is pretty lackluster so far, but I do like the system

Celeste is really fucking good though

I seriously don't get these library complaints. Look at this list. Sure there's some chaff in there but there's also tons and tons of quality.

Yeah, let me clarify. For me, I'm left to wonder what the purpose of the machine is outside of exclusives. I never undock the machine, and that means it's connected to the same TV as my PS4 and Xbox One. If there is third-party release on multiple systems, there's a very good chance I'm not opting for the Switch. Most of my gaming is done on PS4.

I bought the Switch for Nintendo exclusives, which is the same reason I've bought every Nintendo system since the N64.

Oh, it's not where I land on the question personally at all. I just don't think anyone should buy a console they're not excited to own.

For me, I'm 100% in agreement with BEAT.

It's my favorite system. If a game is available for Switch, I buy it on the Switch. It already has more games I want to play on it than I could reasonably justify ever buying, and I can play them the TV, or next to my husband while he watches something, or on a train/plane/whatever.
