I'm loving the Beach cover, though I'm disappointed there isn't a One Piece knock-off.

For example...

Take your pick at the appropriate follow up remark.
"...because he has to play with you!"

"...because has the worst power on Eternia. Yes, I'm including Stinkor."

"...because he's lonely. He needs the company of his friends like Rio Blast, Clamp Champ and Moss Man. They are available in toy stores near you. Don't you want your Mekanek to be happy?"

I know we have a dedicated Archer thread around here somewhere, but I just finished season 8 and... is Aisha Tyler done with the show?

Even though the whole season is a dream, Archers speech in the last episode kind of implies that, dream or not, she's dead, and she seemed to have a greatly reduced role in this season. The only regular with less importance was Ray.

On a similar note, considering how the season IS Archers dream, you'd think it'd have been a lot more self-serving.

Since my He-Man experience in childhood was limited to whatever we could find on VHS, I didn't watch "The Problem With Power" until it was packed with either the talking He-Man or Skeletor figure in the 2002 relaunch. The sense I got from the fandom back then was that it has always been considered one of the best episodes in the series. (Also, that it has a hilariously incongruous moral at the end, which I think was about not setting fires?)

Also, Larry DiTillio wrote that episode. He was a head writer for Beast Wars and some of the better MOTU 2002 episodes, among other things.

ETA: Heh, oops, I didn't realize that discussion was a page or more back in the thread.

Well going by that very limited sample. I wouldn't call it gritty, per se. I'd like to see a full trailer before passing judgement. I will admit to concerns...

Incongruous morals seems to be the shows bread and butter. But it stands out moreso considering the darkness of what this episode addresses against a much more blunt message that sidesteps the entire point of the episode.

Also, while not incongruous, there was also an episode that ended with the message that "time is a thing".

EDIT: Also, the most common messages seem to be anti-prank. Was there a huge prank epidemic in the 80's? High school movies lead me to believe this might be the case.

Four episodes in and She-Ra is already way better than He-Man. I mean, general quality is about the same but a few changes make it much more engaging. Having our heroes be rebels is generally more interesting than maintaining the status quo.

Also, both the beginning and ending themes are way better.

The fact that America hasn't turned this into their new national anthem disgusts me.

That said, She-Ra having a secret identity makes even less sense than He-Man's. He-Man's secret identity deal is kind of bullshit since Skeletor is going after both identities, but at least with that He-Man doesn't have to let his greatest enemy know where he sleeps. He now just knows where his second or third greatest enemy sleeps.

But Adora is already in hiding and the Great Resistance is pretty quick to trust her. Why even have a secret identity.

Also, I don't like that she has to say at the beginning of every episode that she's He-Man's twin sister. You are your own woman and your show is its own show.

Hordak isn't quite as fun as Skeletor but he has cooler powers and the voice actor does a great job.

Glimmer is basically Orko or Madam Razz if they didn't suck at magic. She's basically the best at everything. That's like having two or three Supermen on your Justice League team.

I thought I should give myself a break, maybe with some programming that isn't just "good for what it is", but I'm looking forward to this, now.

Oh, hey Cringer. What's... uh, what's going on with you?

I've been watching my Batman: The Animated Series DVD's again in honor of the 25th anniversary, and damn, there really hasn't been anything like this since. It's nuts that with all the kids who grew up watching it, no one really has tried to make something in the same vein. How many American cartoons now are inspired by Sailor Moon and DBZ?

Which vein, though? Gritty Noir? Art Deco? Costumed hero?

The tone and general crazy ambition of it. I'm watching the Two-Face Two Parter, and this wouldn't get made now. The first part is just a story about a District Attorney trying to take down a crime boss during his re-election, while also dealing with long standing severe mental issues on the side. Batman barely shows up in the beginning and end. It's great.

Oddly, the closest we ever got to a visual spiritual successor was Big O, which was also great.

Steven Universe is the only recent one that I can think of, but there's been many older ones. Both Avatar series, the original Powerpuff Girls, Ben 10, and Generator Rex come to mind.

NAILED IT.

Animation is like a surreal UPA style with shades of Terry Gilliam's Python work.

If Hordak knew She-Ra's secret identity, he'd go after her friends!

...wait, what

OK, I'm 9 episodes in and despite the opening sequence telling us that Cowl, Madame Razz and Lighthope know She-Ra's secret identity... they kind of don't seem to. In fact, Lighthope, whatever it is, hasn't shown up yet.

Also, I did not expect Swift Wind to talk nor for him to sound like... this.

Also, giving Hordak his own wacky sidekick was a mistake, show.

Skeletor didn't need to put up with this kind of shit.

She-Ra always kind of disappointed me because the premise was so much stronger than He-Mans, but it was so rare they did anything with it.

Plus She-Ra herself seemed pretty overpowered; even compared to He-Man; she's just as strong, can fly (via magic horse), and, in addition to being a magical sacred blade, her sword is also a Green Lantern Ring.

Any two of those is plenty. You're just showing off at this point, Adora.

When I was very young, I somehow got it in my head that I wanted a cabbage patch kid. My mother says that she tried very hard, but couldn't find one. So instead she handed me this fucker, told me that it was a cabbage patch kid, and called it a day:

I called it "patch doll" for years before learning the horrible truth.

I don't know if this should count as an honorary anime or "anime," but anyway, Neo Yokio is the anime equivalent of L'artiste est Morte. I think it's sincere, which makes it a sad dumpster fire. If it's a parody of anime, then it works pretty well.

How they landed the stars they got as voice talent, I'm not sure I even want to know. (Jude Law!)

Will Smith called them up and was like "hey can you do me a favor my son has a vanity project he's working on and..."

I'm not really sure if it works as a parody though, it's not... like... funny or witty enough to really succeed at that. (Though if Sailor Pellegrino's face is supposed to be a jab at the animation quality of Sailor Moon Crystal that's pretty funny, if it's just bad animation then that's sad)

Reminds me a bit of Amano Shuninta, which is a reasonably deep dive for an Anime fan not drowning in the gay ladies
