I just watched Episode 4 and it was so good. I mean yeah, it's an episode built around a gimmick, but it was still a really good gimmick.

Yeah, I wound up binge watching the whole season. So many moments where I identified with the show, but not as bleakly as I did in the previous two seasons. And I felt like overall this season was just so much funnier than I expected, which is good. So many good animal gags, and a lot of lines and scenes that were hilarious.

The last episode had so many grown-up, conflicted moments, which is crazy for a cartoon where a dog valet throws keys so he can go fetch them over and over again.

One thing that somehow rewards binge watching is seeing the opening credits change as the season progresses.

The final episode got to me, badly. I don't know if I can watch it again - it's just

that last sequence when he puts his foot down, leans back and closes his eyes, and lets go of the wheel. I've done that exact thing and stopped myself in the same sort of way. That's too much man.

On episode 2. I died (and am in hell now, posting on this message board) when Mr. Peanutbutter's wife revealed her identity. Also I can't believe her character's name in Summer Catch, a movie I remember but did not see, is "Tenley Parrish"

Like I remember Jessica Biel giving an interview (to a local paper??) talking about how her character in that film was older than her in real life. blast from the past~

Really, there's too much text there. I'm sorry. I have thoughts and memories about Jessica Biel

Was it the 2007 one? I think there was a Subway advertisement that was like "Kids eat for free!" Um, btw, I didn't get that joke until your post made me think about it. I was just like, "could kids eat for free at subway in 2007? Simpler times!"

Are there multiple Subway jokes? I used to work there. That would be satisfying, like when P&R made fun of Muncie. i like subway. muncie's just kind of lame.

i patronized jared's very own subway last year. i didn't know until the deed (eating a sandwich) was done.

That one was the only one I saw. There's a-lot of other subtle jokes in the series that people have caught onto, but I'll spoiler a list.

Episode 8: ....that was Weird Al.

Also, I don't know if this was intentional or not, but there was almost a joke with the whole 'Labrador Penninsula' thing, though I have no idea how intentional it was. Y'see, many folks in Quebec believe that most of Labrador is actually a part of their province instead of Newfoundland (it's been a point of contention between here and there, particularly regarding the Upper Churchill project, but I digress) so for the show to have a map showing all of Quebec + Labrador, but calling it 'The Labrador Penninsula', it's... kind of a poke at that? A joke almost? It's very nearly there, but not quite.

I dunno, maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Weird Al though.

A few days before the premier they announced a season 4. So this is definitely not the end. Also the implications of the final episode. I think 4 might be the worst/best yet when we finally get it.

Augh. I wish I had time to watch this. Burned through the first six episodes on Sunday and have no TV time until next Sunday. This week is already seeming sooooooo long.

I'm glad to see that other folks thought that episode 4 was awesome.

Loved the first couple new episodes. I'm sad that Garry Marshall's death means no more Abe the catfish director, though.

Who did the score to episode 4? Was it just the normal crew? The episode was amazing and the music really put it over the top.

I particularly loved that the ocean was clearly an analogue to Japan, but the only point where they really shove it in your face is the Mr. Peanutbutter commercial.

If nothing else, I appreciate the penultimate episode being pretty jokey this time, kind of softened the blow just a little.

Season 3 really layered on the pathos more thickly than the rest of the series though.

Yeah, I dunno. This season felt heavier to me but less depressing. I think it's just because a lot of its depressing notes did not hit me the same way the first two seasons did. Still, a really good show that seems to employ the toughest kind of "tough love" I've seen, because it is all about taking a brutally hard look at yourself when things go wrong.

I'm not trying to diminish anything you have posted about in this thread. Stuff you've said, I can understand how hard it might hit you.

I think another reason this season didn't depress me as much as 1 and 2 did is that they've done so many genuinely funny, pure comedy bits/gags in the episodes throughout. So binge watching it, it was easy to remember gags when the show went into its dark places.

This show has such a great opening credits sequence. I love the Graduate homage, and how well the music and imagery go together (especially that big sax blast when he arrives at the movie premiere).

I was so disgusted with Bojack by the end of the second season I don't know if I can watch the third.

I still haven't been able to go back and watch the second half of the second season because I'm no longer in the awful head space I was that made me binge watch as much as I did.

I was up to episode 9 and wondering why everyone was saying this season was such a dark void of despair. Then I watched the remaining three episodes. OH MY GOD

I love that they have Bojack spill the beans on tape about not actually playing Secretariat in the premiere, as a plot bomb that can go off at any time, but it never shows up, and in the end Bojack's standard behavior is his own undoing.

The way the opening credits evolved over the course of the season to mirror events in the plot was really cool too.
