Default "Come on and grab your friends", Talking about Adventure Time

Having just binged in the series and gotten caught up, I came to the subforum to find the appropriate thread to talk about it, and found there was none! Adventure Time talk seemed to be hidden away in the Cartoons Kick Ass superthread, and nuts to that!

Nuts I say!

It absotively posilutely deserves its own thread.

So here it is. Talking Time for Adventure Time in here.

Since I just watched all three and a half seasons in the span of a couple of weeks the entire series feels kinda like a weird fever dream. I actually had a bunch of things to say, but now I can't remember what most of it was!

The most recent thing I watched was actually the Pilot, since I ignored it until now, and I was pretty surprised at how different the Ice King turned out. The other characters, besides Finn's name change and Lady Rainicorn's speech, seemed pretty much the same as the show ultimately became, except for Ice King who was way more hostile. I'm glad they ditched that and went with more of a 'creepy weirdo' character for him, it suits the mostly lighthearted nature of the show better.

Quick poll: Have you guys spotted the snail in every episode? Because I sure haven't!

I've only started watching, and even then at one or two episodes a week. But I think it's pretty great! It's weird without being stupid, which is nice. A lot of cartoons these days seem to rely on being zany and non sequitur and end up seeming like their creators said "Okay, let's copy Sponegebob/Family Guy, but take it up to the MAX!"

I like Adventure Time though.

The ending of the "Tree Trunks" episode was horrifying. I almost expected Percy.

Tree Trunks has kind of replaced Toy Man for how I imagine Percy sounds.

Also, the entire show kind of feels like a kind of rpg that I would be writing. Im. Of sure if that's a compliment or what.

Also regarding the RPG-ness of it, I did always kind of feel a weird Earthbound vibe from Adventure Time, now that you mention it...

One of my friends knows Pendleton Ward, apparently a lot of his inspiration comes from Dungeons and Dragons campaigns.

Incidentally, this friend came up with the "Conversation Parade" joke in Rainy Day Daydream.

Now I need to rewatch all of them! Off the top of my head my fave episodes have been the zombie candy kingdom one, and the magic duel one.

Man, that was the least crazy thing that happened! That giant tongue freaked the hell out of me! Not to mention Ricardio's new body, or Peebles savage take down of said new body.

I wish Adventure Time was on bluray. It's one of those things I feel like I need to have on my shelf, but the animation is just too slick to settle for anything less than HD.

Is this one of those things everyone on TT has to like? Like Super Metroid?

Edit: I wanna see it again. I only saw one and it sucked for me, that doesn't necessarily mean the show is bad or anything... might have been a mood thing?

I'm in the same boat. Its so pretty, I couldn't bear to buy the SD version. That and all I've seen was a "best of " DVD. Full seasons, please.

Also: "He still cries when he poops." How could anyone not enjoy this?

The first season has been released. That's all so far though.

Also, as enjoyable as that is, its not half as great as "You just kissed a boom-boom baby. No more sugar from me until you clean your filthy mouth, sweetheart"

I don't know about the rest of Talking Time - I only speak for my self.

You MONSTER.

In all seriousness, the first episode is not great (I assume you're talking about the zombie one, right?). It was sort of a weird one to lead with, but whatever - 12 minutes and you're past it.

I can *sort of* see how the show may bug someone, because it does use internet-esque humour - but it does so with a glee and intelligence that far outstrips the legions of shitty meme makers that would foster that response. If you carry a grudge against this show for more than 2-3 episodes, I'm afraid you and I wouldn't have much to talk about.

I don't know, Mr. Madhair also doesn't like Bionic Commando.

I think he might have problems. The kind of problems that would make your mother scold you if she caught you staring at him.

Oh yeah the whole episode was great, but this is probably the hardest I've laughed at an end of episode stinger since Memory of a Memory.

Come on, leave him be. The show is good but there are more than enough off episodes that I can see some scratching their heads at it.

Was just looking at the episode list for this show. I like that the "breaks" between seasons are like a month and a half long. The fun, it truly never ends.

What, like an adult watching children's cartoons? Don't be an arsehole.

Like I said I've only seen one episode and I want to give it another shot. I did have a more thorough explanation of why I disliked the one I saw but it feels like posting it would be a waste of time. I'll watch the next few and see how it goes.

Did they contract with another animation studio this season? Every now and then, sometimes a whole episode, sometimes just parts of an episode, everything looks a little...off? Like sort of rounded and in a slightly different style? Jake's usually the tell-tale sign of it; they kind of draw him weird. It's also apparent when you see people in profile.

I'm pretty sure this latest episode was an example of what I'm talking about.

It's kind of off-putting to me.

I haven't watched this in forever, but last night I watched Beautopia, No One Can Hear You, Jake vs. Memow, and Thank You. The first three are all really disturbing and not very funny! I'm glad the last one was a bit more positive and got away from the disturbing elements. I remember the show always being a good mix of funny/cute/adventurous/scary stuff, but does it become way more morbid as the series goes on? Maybe I just had a weird run of downer episodes.

I'm not saying that they were bad, just not what I expected getting back into the series.

I didn't think Jake vs. Me-Mow was all that disturbing, but yeah, the first two you mentioned are definitely among the more unsettling episodes

it's still a cute show most of the time!

So I finally saw the latest episode, and it was pretty great, even besides the hilarious reaction at the end.

I just love that they got Ricardio to say 'Ohhh Myyyyyy'.

Is there a translation of everything Lady said in this episode? She had a large amount of dialogue, even if most of it could be inferred.

The creepiest episode had to be christmas. Though the follow up firedog episode was probably the happiest thing I've ever seen.
