In Peter David’s X-Factor (which was long and his most substantial tenure as a character) they were more or less fully functional individuals (with various personality quirks) who could all duplicate without any degradation. The “prime” Madrox of that series died in Death of X. Now there’s a new one established in a recent miniseries and his powers may work differently but I was not engaged enough to commit any changes to memory.

Originally, there wasn’t a “prime” Madrox and all Madroxes were valid. It’s pretty normal for his powers to shift but... Kitty and Storm should know that dupes are just people! Your annoying friend just got vaporized!

I actually enjoyed the Uncanny X-Men stuff the last couple months, but holy shit Age of X-Man Alpha is fucking bad. It's House of M all over again, but this time with a shitty 1950s veneer and "mental reeducation" to fit into the squeaky clean bullshit.

I just listened to the authors’ interview with the Battle of the Atom guys and it sounded like Age of M but nobody fucks. Can’t wait to read it in 6 months.

I . . . actually think Age of X-Man looks cool from the issue preview of Alpha, but I am a sucker for elaborate alternate universe stories.

Who knows when I will ever read it, though.

Known silver age X-Men fan Kurt Busiek and Scott McCloud wrote a summary of the X-Men in 1979.

Is this the earliest published instance of Busiek's decades long fascination with the Metoxo the Lava Man story that was previewed but never written?

Mainly, this reminds me that it's honestly really sad that John Byrne running on empty got to write that lost years X-Men comic in the 90s and not Busiek while he was on fire, since Busiek apparently also made a similar pitch at the time.

Fat Sentinel! I love it. Hard to imagine reading anything in 2019 but I’ll try.

I stand by my statement that they should have just cancelled it and called it a wash.

I mean, jesus, it looks like they just reshot this scene from X3:

i.e. everyone shows up at Jean's parent's house and says "come to who can fulfill you the most Jean! Come on girl!"

i’m sorry i love the dumb “shit’s getting real!” music in the trailer! Going to take this trailer at its word and congratulate Jennifer Lawrence for not having to wear the make-up she hates for that long.

Anyway, I will watch and enjoy this movie and be unable to critically evaluate it at all like all movies but especially all X-Movies.

Over to the comics... not reading but have they explained why Nate hasn’t just castrated everybody? Seems like that would solve a lot of his utopia’s problems.

I don't think it looks very much like Last Stand at all.

It does look kind of like this, though.

Hahaha! It is, and he also has a producer credit. Why would they give him another shot at doing the same story? Good gravy.

I know that the Disney-Fox merger is actually bad because Disney is a monster already, but thank goodness Fox doesn’t get to make any more X-Men movies after this one.

It's honestly not even the same story as The Last Stand. Everyone remember the Phoenix portions because that stands out the most in a mostly forgettable movie no one really wants to rewatch, but it wasn't really a Phoenix adaptation. It was an overstuffed movie that happened to also have the Phoenix in it, as one of its way too many elements.

Joss Whedon's "cure for mutation" story doesn't have the same oomph.

He also wrote (one of?) the most well-regraded films in the franchise. (DoFP) Anyway, both directed by horrible sex criminals. Hopefully not the case this time.

I guess I just think all trailers look good aside from, like, Sicario: Day of the Soldado or whatever.

Except Disney is buying Fox’s movie division as a whole, and they have already expressed they are content with keeping the X-movies separate from the MCU stuff and done by their new subsidiary, so they can continue to cash in on the popularity of R-rated Deadpool and Wolverine movies without sullying the MCU’s PG-13 brand.

keep fighting the good fight, kurt busiek, this is my pet peeve too

That's fair. I guess the issue is that using the Phoenix in X3 was a mistake, but it's kind of weird that they're doing that storyline now instead of picking from another one that wouldn't draw the comparison. Also, it's weird that they're doing a movie that heavily features Sophie Turner.

When was that? The only two quotes I've been able to find are:

It's less "We'll let these Fox guys keep making their kind of movies" and more "You know, Deadpool makes a lot of money"

I thought the US one was fine, but there's also a new international trailer for Dark Phoenix that is much better edited and with many different cuts.

edit: I guess Vimeo links embed here now instead of just turning the text into a link?

Huh.

Anna Paquin's comments on being cut from and then restored to Days of Future Past are pretty funny. (I love that she clearly thinks the production process is a mess, and also that she is totally honest about never having watched any version of the movie.)

Why in the heck is Moonstar appearing both inside the Age of X-Man stuff and outside in the Uncanny X-Men stuff? You would think that would be something obvious enough continuity-wise that an editor would notice?

Believe it or don't, but back in December last year Rosenberg basically said that's foreshadowing for people who pay attention to both books, rather than an oversight.

(Presumably one of the two is fake, or someone else entirely. Comic books!)
