Throwing batter into a waffle iron is doing a disservice to what could be a truly delicious pancake, if only because waffles inhibit even topping distribution.

You know what pissed me off? Any time I put syrup or butter on a waffle. And it just doesn't go anywhere. It can't spread lovingly across the surface, as with a pancake. Instead, it just collects in the tiny prison cells that dot the surface of the crunchy confection. That crunchiness also keeps it from even absorbing those sweet, fattening nectars in any worthwhile manner! What a waste! Waffles are more trouble to make, and more trouble to eat! Boo!

I'm pretty sure you just described one of the reasons that waffles are awesome, my friend.

Pancakes with maple syrup and whipped cream. Kthx.

(Also, chocolate chip pancakes are the ultimate win.)

So many times this.

I'm disappointed at the lack of crepes on the poll.

Yeah, I really dislike the taste/texture of a pancake that has absorbed syrup. It's part of the reason I started putting peanut butter on them, they sort of block the syrup a little bit even as they create that sweet, syrupy peanut taste.

Needless to say, I'm a waffle man. I have very strong feelings about waffle superiority. I really prefer homemade waffles, though. Most of the waffles I've had in restaurants or at hotel breakfasts just lack the... consistency, maybe, that I look for in a good waffle. I'm not sure what word I'm looking for.

I got really excited for a second until I realized a bacon-pancake wouldn't really actually be better than bacon and a pancake.

I can say confidently that bits of sausage in a pancake are better than sausage and a pancake.

Waffles taste better, but they're a pain to make and spread butter over. Pancakes are the lazy man's breakfast.

Eating a pancake is like eating a cloud. On cloudy days I stay in and eat pancakes so I can be in solidarity with the clouds

I just went to a pub's sunday brunch buffet and had a waffle with mini Reese's peanut butter cups in it. It was tasty.

If you're having trouble with even topping distribution on your waffle then you aren't using enough butter.

Waffles maximize the surface area, which is to say, the tasty part; they are mathematically superior. Pancakes are admirable in their own way, providing a superior flavor-to-effort ratio. Some mornings you want to do breakfast right, and some mornings you just need some fuel in the furnace. But the waffle is the clear choice when the criteria is "best" rather than "most efficient."

Correct. Pancakes are bullshit. They are lazy man's food. You don't deserve waffles if you can't put in the minimal effort it takes to make them.

Oh how I long for a better waffle iron, though.
I have the old model of this:

What I want is something like this:

Until then I just kinda get tough waffles, not crisped with a fluffy interior. In which case I'd rather have tender pancakes.

Still, I vote for waffles since we're talking ideals here.

Pancakes work best in crepe form.

Still prefer waffles though.
