Former WCW World Champion, All Japan Triple Crown Champion, IWGP Heavyweight Champion, and probably the best big-man worker of all time Vader (aka Big Van Vader), real name Leon White, has passed away.

Celebrate his memory by powerbombing someone and building your own White Castle of Fear today.

remember always that when the police hassled vader for crashing his car into a ditch while drunk, he told them he was just out hunting frogs, then he took on eight cops and two dogs and broke three sets of handcuffs.

I remember him primarily from the episodes of Boy Meets World he was on as Ethan Suplee's dad.

And for being an absolute beast in the Fire Pro Wrestling games.

Essential viewing here: Vader's debut in New Japan, squashing Antonio Inoki and catapulting to the top of the card in minutes. The crowd got so pissed and rowdy (by Japanese standards anyway) that New Japan was banned from Sumo Hall for a while after.

His appearance on Baywatch was the first and only time I saw the absolutely incredible mastodon helmet. Damn that was a great design.

So good that Tetsuo Hara shamelessly stole it for Saturday Night Slam Masters.

I always find it hilarious when WWE tries to respect their batshit continuity.

"You tried to abduct my wife!"
"tried"

"Daniel, you're like a brother to me."
"You set your brother on fire."

Hand to God, the first time I heard about someone getting "stretched" in wrestling terms, I thought "well that's nice of them."

Interesting writeup from Herb on the NJPW show at Madison Square Garden coming up. Inflation makes the comparison to WCW not entirely fair, but this is apparently going to be the first non-WWF wrestling show in North America to ever do a million dollar gate. The best WCW ever did was 930K at the Georgia Dome.

Plus they're not counting the days until 90 percent of their talent gets poached away and they have to put a belt on whatever you'd consider the 2018 equivalent of Justin Credible. (ZSJ?)

So I’m sure you’ve heard about the rise of Inokiism Twitter. I take partial credit for it because I read somewhere about a rumor that Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler’s Iron Man Match at Extreme Rules was a spiteful clapback at Omega/Okada.

As wrestling Twitter’s #1 Dolph Ziggler hater, I openly opined that we needed Inokiism back to stop shit like this happen, and instead have Ziggler forced in an MMA match with, I dunno, Stipe Miocic, with Vince passing a note to Stipe that said “an extra hundo for each stitch that dollar store Shawn Michaels motherfucker needs afterwards.”

So yeah. Sorry not sorry.

The extremely old in the audience may remember a nearly identical phenomenon revolving around Usenet troll cliques embracing the New World Order circa 1997. World without end, amen.

I'm trying to think of an analogous example from middle 00s forum contrarianism but mercifully those years fade further from view with each passing day. The cult of Mark Henry that briefly struck DVDVR maybe.

Yeah, hoss matches may not be in taste for anyone anymore, but WWE puts on the best in the business. The Show/Henry feud was just good tv.

He’s also half of one of the best cage matches in the past ten years of WWE TV on that Thanksgiving Smackdown with Daniel Bryan for the WHC.

This thread has been slow-going, I've noticed. So here's a topic of discussion:

Why don't you care to talk about wrestling any more?

This isn't an accusatory question: To be honest, there are plenty of reasons why, many involving WWE, where my own interest has faded, but not so much as to quit altogether-- yet.

I'm just curious to hear from you guys why you're less active in this iteration of the thread.

I don't post a lot in general, I guess! I'm excited that Becky turned into Stone Cold Steve Austin, Daniel Bryan is wwe champion and apparently heel now? Also last night's takeover was extremely good.

Ample left and the WWE product has been boring. Kind of excited for Becky's recent push and hoping that her injury is a work but I've largely been getting my rasslin fix through binging the back catalog of Something to Wrestle With...

I canceled WWE and what with all the bullshit they have been up to with shows in Saudi Arabia and bringing Hogan back on top of all the money they gave Trump, I probably won't be giving them another chance until the old man is dead.

The only wrestling I've watched recently is Glow. I did get a kick out of seen Chavo Jr. on there.

I also still want to check out Lucha Underground on Netflix if it's still there.

I love professional wrestling, but I fucking LOATHE WWE. I have never had a Network subscription because even before than I just knew that the McMahons were loathesome people who I didn’t want to give my money. All they’ve done in recent years only serves to vindicate me. Maybe I’ll jump in when Vince croaks, but who knows.
