Inside. ... just ... what the fuck?

I'm aware that things rarely end up well in these "terrible deaths to little boys" type of games, but I really did not expect to end up stuck as an Akira blob on a beach with absolutely no resolution or explanation.

This one was just weird for weird's sake, and frankly the puzzle platforming wasn't interesting enough to put it in the same category at Limbo or Braid or even Another Word*. I feel like I was supposed to feel something, but fuck if I know what it was. If the game has a thesis it is being too subtle about it.

*which I don't like but respect and have enjoyed LPs of

Regarding Limbo, the most interesting theory that I've heard is that the little boy had been acting in the interests of the flesh blob for some time. Either from the very beginning of the game, which was why he was being hunted, or else from the moment when he "drowns" and is saved by the selkie. I think the latter makes more sense, in that the selkie goes from trying to kill you to seemingly helping you. But it's also possible that the thing she hooks you up to isn't saving your life, but rather turning your corpse into a servant for the massive blob, which wants to escape the complex.

That ending really threw me for a loop, but I couldn't help but appreciate how singular and surprising it was.

To shamelessly steal from the How Did This Get Made Podcast, I'm pretty sure it's a Jacob's Ladder Scenario™.

I'm OK with that theory, Mike, but it still doesn't tell me ... why? I mean, i guess the blob escapes, but ... WTF with the rest of it? What is the meaning?

Been playing and enjoying XCOM 2, but it sure gets repetitive by the end. I'm no longer excited upon seeing Gatekeepers, Archons, and other high-level enemies. I hear Long War 2 spices things up, but ehh...I didn't care for Long War for the original XCOM: Enemy Within.

Mortal Kombat 8's Baby Park would also be a bad place for a baby.

Do they even have babytalities anymore?

MK9 had them, but they're definitely not in MKXL

I've played Mega Man 3 a shameful number of times but I never noticed until now how bad the fucking slowdown is. Jesus Harold Christ. I appreciate the idea of MMLC but, really, an option for no slowdown would be peachy.

I've heard that people play Galaxy Fight in tournaments, with the timer set to two seconds. I can understand why, because two seconds is as much as I can take of this crap. It obviously shares code with Waku Waku 7, but that game is so refined that comparing the two would be like comparing Street Fighter II to the clumsy original.

Like I said when the release was announced, there's only two reasons people played Galaxy Fight, and both of them are attached to Roomi.

Well okay, those weren't the exact words I said, but Elfelicia there is the only reason people remember Galaxy Fight at all.

Yeah, I think people forget how bad the slowdown was in MM3. And I'd similarly love to see a no-flicker remake of MM2.

Worst part of Day of Infamy is hearing people who think "fag" and "retard" are acceptable words to use in voice chat, and player names like Fascist1488. They're not everywhere but they make an already demanding game even more exhausting.

I bought Muramasa: Rebirth for Vita during the PSN Golden Week Sale despite owning the Wii version and never getting the true endings. Well, I'm at the spot after completing both characters again and still have no clue how to get the last two dozen swords. Those caves of evil probably have a few, but screw that business.

I wanted to add that Muramasa is still a crummy game slathered with nice graphics and George Kamitani's various fetishes. I bought it for the Vita only DLC, but played though the main game again when I remembered I never really beat it. Turns out there was a reason!

After finishing Secret of Mana, I decided it was time to seriously dive into Seiken Densetsu 3. I've flirted with the game before and always lost interest. This time I've gotten further in and I'm getting used to the combat. But man, did they make some weird choices with this game. The sad thing is it's within spitting distance of being a masterpiece, but the menus are shockingly bad, the story is bland and littered with arbitrary "talk to this random guy to advance the plot" flags, and it never stops being awful that you can't run when monsters are around.

Dear god, Time Eater (final boss of Sonic Generations) is awful. I really like the final, final boss of S&K3, where you are Super Sonic and just have to boost to Robotnik and collect rings, and this would be basically the same. But I find it incredibly hard to collect rings - I died two times because I ran out of them. I know that they should get drawn to Sonic when I use the boost, but even getting near enough for that is hard for me, I just can't react fast enough to get to the rings.

Also, is this fight glitched? The first time I hit him I stayed for some seconds in the core and then he looked like he was hit one time. The second time he immediately got away after I touched the core and nothing seemed to have happened. After that I probably boosted 15 minutes, but everytime I got slightly near Time Eater just boosted away from me or something.

Aside from this boss, the game feels too fast for me. I often have a hard time reacting to stuff, and Sonic seems to accelerate so fast that I have trouble with precision plattforming. Bottomless pits don't help either. These points might be on me though, I'm not sure. Maybe I'm just slow.

Strider for the NES is SO close to being a groundbreaking game for its time. But is it rough. The slowdown, the loading of NPCs and boss areas (yes, actual loading in a NES cartridge), glitchiness, clipping through environments, dodgy hit detection, Hiryu's triangle jump and momentum mechanics being super touchy...definitely a rushed release. But it's still a decent enough experience. I suppose my gripe is that it could have been better...although I think the 2014 Strider manages to nail the landing this game couldn't, personally.

Yeah, Strider 2014's a pretty good, albeit imperfect game. Besides some bug fixes, I'd change the following.
  • Add more standard enemy variety. Too many generic soldiers with more different guns and shields on the roster.
  • Add more and/or better warp points so the map isn't such a colossal pain in the ass to traverse once it finally opens up.
  • Three words: CIPHER. DAMAGE. UPGRADES.

I still need to beat this game. I'm at the final area, but haven't entered it yet because I wanna backtrack and find things I missed before the grand point of no return.

Agreed on all fronts. It's fun, but certainly flawed.

Real talk. I remember I was playin' through at a friends place and discovered this one room filled with lasers, and I had absolutely no way to get through them. We looked it up online and it turned out that my game glitched itself out in that room and spawned a laser where there shouldn't have been one. Ugh.

I'm about to quit Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD because I can't get past a button mashing quick time event. It's truly infuriating. I was enjoying the game up to this point, and I just think I'm not capable of button mashing fast enough.

General button-mashing technique: Hold the controller horizontal in one hand, or place it on a flat surface, and use the index finger of your free hand. Use the wrist or the elbow, not the finger joint.
