Thank god he's walking back the horseification of The Boy. That was the most tragic shit.

Erin and The Boy have got to have the most convoluted arcs in all of Allison's work.

man, for sure. that was an incredibly frustrating end to that storyline, considering everything that had gone on before it! it felt like it completely negated all the tension and effort.

and heck, i love allison's comics, but the boy has always been one of my favorite characters and the various twists and turns his story took the past couple of years was very frustrating to me, one of the few legit grievances i've had with bad machinery.

remember the time eustace grew a beard and put on weight and was very self-conscious about it but erin was like 'naw it's fine i like big burly fellas' and they had a sweet moment and i got all hopeful about the character development/body positivity that was imminent but then nawwwww allison had him miraculously lose all that weight and hair and everything and revert back into his youthful pretty skinny old self, i'm totally not salty about that

That The Boy is a narcissist plays perfectly into his gormlessness. Fat or thin or diesel, he's always been an insecure starfish of a man looking for a rock to attach himself to.

I think that Allison has had some trouble every time he revisits any of his pre-BM characters. The Boy definitely has it the worst, but even characters like Tim and Shelley have been a bit awkward.

He at least had the presence of mind to dynamite the Tim/Shelley romance offscreen. His work with Ryan and Amy has been solid.

Definitely. But I think Ryan and Amy came out well because they've been in BM since the beginning, even if as side characters.

Oh good, so it wasn't just me. I felt very silly that a webcomic had me breaking out the dictionary.

also, I was reading some of the third volume of Giant Days tonight while Mr. LRLR was sleeping next time, and I'll never do that again, because holy shit, keeping all of those guffaws inside hurt. the Big Lindsay visit features some incredibly inspired gags.

On that note, this month's Giant Days #22 was quite valuable for my wilting queer heart (premise is semi-spoilers for one of three protagonists for #16, or the as-of-yet-not-released volume 4):

"I think I might be in lust. The cure is breakfast." is the best line ever. That's it, folks, everything's downhill from here.

(BTW, no, I've tried that cure and it doesn't work)

I burst into tears in the middle of Oxford Waterstones reading volume 3. I'll let you figure out which two pages

(I own a copy, reader. I did not pirate the book)

is it when Susan gets kicked to the curb?

today's BM has a shoutout to the Sandman! You have a cool-as-shit girl with an amazing hairdo and wearing an ankh twitting someone she's very close to for being an extremely pale idiot, it's so very the beginning of "The Sound Of Her Wings"

It's the scene when they're camping. There's a particular line of dialogue that really resonated with me. I forgot what it was exactly so it can't have resonated that much. "No, we just know about different things. That's why you liked me." Something like that.

It hurts seeing Shauna be so spiteful towards Lottie.

it does, but the sting is lessened by knowing this is Flashback-Shauna.

Between this and his back-up Power Pack story, how long until Allison has a Marvel gig?

I'm...I'm hoping for no. She's only, what, 15? 16? Dude has to be something like 25+, which brings this into some very uncomfortable territory.

Hey I'm not saying she should, that last panel just seemed pretty suggestive. I also have reason to believe she favors the older gent nope, I thought it would be funny to strike out the whole Hot Fuzz quote and then say something else but it's too gross

Allison seems to labor under the delusion that schoolgirls dating adult men is perfectly okay and natural - Ryan dated Lottie's sister at the end of SGR when she was in her last year and he was in his early 20s.

it's gross and I thought he'd learned better because there hadn't been a hint of that in BM.

until this arc.
