This should be fun. Of course now I have to think of a bunch of songs in film/TV/theater I like.

I'm honestly surprised Best Dinosaurs did as well as it did. I submitted it as a joke.

But I guess the good people of TT have a little thing called taste.

I wanted to do Top 50 Dragons but didn't post after I saw your nomination because I thought people would think mine was a joke. Maybe next time.

Well, if I'm going to be running this thing, can anyone help me with some issues?

Where does the call for lists and final list go? Here? The music subforum? The TV/film subforum?

How do I collate a 50-item list from other peoples' lists of 25 items?

It all goes here, though you can post on those other boards to direct them to this board.

As for tabulations (if I understand the question correctly, which I confess I may not): personally, I keep it simple. A person's #1 list is worth 25 points, their #2 24 and so on. Then I tabulate, taking on choice at a time and then adding them up. Some people use spreadsheets and all that but I don't know a thing about it. If you are worried about calculations, maybe ask someone else on the board to help you out, like when Felix did the tabulations for Octo-Prime's cartoon series list.

As for tie breakers: Whoever appears on the most lists.
Then, if it's still a tie, whoever appears the highest on an individual list.
That's my recommendation, though. You might find another way that suits you.

Seconded. And I'm one of those spreadsheet guys, and I am going to share the Google Spreadsheet I used for 16-bit games later today. Feel free to duplicate it and use it if you think it'll help you.

Definitely use a spreadsheet, doing these lists would be a nightmare otherwise.

Ha ha, well, it'll probably be February before I have time to actually host one of these. Also, I don't know how to do a spreadsheet and my writing isn't very interesting or funny. I think I'll need to team up with someone else here if that's going to happen.

Also hey Büge, no rush, but do you have a rough due-date in mind for the musical lists? Just since people may need to plan ahead around the holidays...

Yeah, I get it if you are a bit busy and want to take a bit of time before posting a submissions thread (especially if you are collaborating with another party, but it may be a good idea for those who want make sure they don't miss this one in the hectic season to come.

It couldn't hurt to wait to even open up submissions until January 2 or 3, when the holiday craziness is over.

I'm... not clear on what's gained by that? Also, I'm kind of bummed at the thought of just calling these off for a month, but maybe that's just me.

It's Büge's call, of course, but this gives us a fun thing to do at a stressful time of year.

One more question: what does the New Points System (e.g. adding 10 points to each entry, so your 25th has 10 points and your 1st has 35) bring to the table that the old one does not?

Working as advertised!
That being said, no one cares overmuch, so if it sounds like a hassle, just don't worry about it.

Titles that are more popular get more points thus placing higher in the list. It makes titles that several Tyrants love but scored low have more weight than one title listed by a single Tyrant being scored highly.

Example:

Tyrant A gives Donkey Kong Math first place and Goonies II fifteenth place.

Tyrant B gives Fester Quest second place and Goonies II fifteenth place.

Old system :
#1 Donkey Kong Math (25 pts)
#2 Fester's Quest (24 pts)
#3 Goonies II (20 pts)

New system:
#1 Goonies II (40 pts)
#2 Donkey Kong Math (35 pts)
#3 Fester's Quest (34 pts)

And for perspective there was one (1) entry in the last big list where the alternate points system moved it a noticeable amount.
