Meh. I haven't played the DLC, but I can't imagine it adds much important. I certainly hadn't thought much was missing to the plot.

For the other two DLC Episodes, I had to think real hard to figure out when they even happen.

I don't think many people here HAVE played the Episodes. I've asked three times and gotten zero replies

Episode Gladiolus: Set during Chapter 7, but it's told as a flashback when the bros are camping.

Episode Prompto: Set during Chapter 12; there are references to Aranea's meeting with Noctis at Tenebrae.

Episode Ignis: During/after the fight with Leviathan.

I don't think you need to play the episodes at the point they're set. I mean, they're designed as retrospectives

also, if you wait until you play episode gladio to continue the game, you are probably going to be disappointed

Yeah, but when the characters are gone something happens to them, so it's definitely designed so you would want the DLC to see what happened to them at the latest at the moment they return.

Really I'm surprised how nobody's talked about Episode Ignis here, given that you can change the ending of the entire game once you've played through it.

Yeah, that is the reason they leave the party - to sell DLC.

Poor Gladio - barely having anything interesting happen

EDIT: That last spoiler: WHOA, WAIT, WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?

Yeah, Ep. Ignus and Promoto are both supposed to be pretty good. It's a shame they lead with Gladio because it may have turned people off who would like those.

I'll likely go back and play through them pretty soon now that they're all out.

You have to follow Ardyn when he tells you to join him or die.

I'm just saying, I would feel regretful if I waited to play episode gladio until finishing the game. It doesn't really deliver much.

Also, pursuant to MetManMas's spoiler, Episode Ignis has some flashforwards of the end game, which I don't recommend seeing before playing it for real.

Prompto would be okay, but I still don't think it should hold you up from finishing the game if you have to wait to play it.

Don't these two statements say the exact opposite thing?

Either way, the point is it's kinda bleh. Eps. Prompto and Ignis are more fun and more interesting.

The characters leaving the party does open a window for DLC, but it's not exclusively for that purpose. It's also there for thematic weight as well, as the whole story centers around these found brothers unbreakable bonds. The point isn't "what we're you up to!?" So much as "I missed you when you were gone." It's also important to note that characters leaving the party serves the function of opening a character slot for other side characters to temporarily join the party and better fleshing them out. Something that imo didn't happen enough and I imagine was originally planned to have happen more before the back half of the game got Xenogears'd.

lol, 40 hrs in I finally made it to lestallum in chapter 3 and after immediately spending all my gil on food ingredients i became incredibly disappointed that I can't fling myself around the city like you can in the Assassin's Creed DLC. Why the hell not, I ask.

If you could Warp-Hang in towns the same way you can do it in combat, I'd probably STILL be 120 hours in but only at level 10 and I'd barely have any plot done.

Not really needed, the engine allows for 5 party members the same time and you also have five at once at least twice in the game.

Yeah I hate that you can't do that in dungeons too. Seems some objects are unreachable, but Noctis could easily warp to them, he just refuses to because it's not combat!

It kills me you can't do that just for the free MP refills.

My replay has also reached Lestallum, which I promptly left because I grabbed the Glass Gemstone off the table there. Also, I somehow had three Sturdy Helixhorns before ever doing the hunt with the right enemy in it. That all adds up to me having Ultima Weapon in Chapter 3, which feels super early.

man, I'm so tickled pink that you've given the game a chance and you've learned to enjoy it on your own terms. 2009 Shivam would be very confused!

ProTip: Buy the "MP3 player" if you want, but listen to FFXV's own overworld music as much as possible. Yoko Shimomura et al bust their chops on XV's soundtrack, and it's a shame that the novelty of "listening to previous games' music on the car" gained so much more notoriety than the original compositions.

Also, if you like walking/driving around and exploring (Gladio's Survival skill will benefit considerably), make sure you get the Roadlife and Roadrunning nodes in the Ascension grid. When the time comes, get Chocobump too.

I've said it before and I've said it again. FFXV attempts a lot of different things and has a middling success rate at them, but the two big things it attempts that is different for Final Fantasy were 1) the open world and 2) the intimate focus on your party of Chocobros, and it knocked both out of the park.

Also, one of my very favorite villains of the series, possibly edging out Caius Ballad.

I don't like this game much, but the villain is like fully on point.
