This one's alright, just like the parody. It's funny that it takes only a very mild alteration to Al's hair to turn it into Lorde's.

Off topic of Al's music for a sec, am I the only one who misses short-haired bearded Al?

We've had clean-shaven long-haired Al for some time now (since, what, Running with Scissors?), and I've made my peace with it, but now and then I look back on some of his older album covers and think wistfully "Yeah, that's how he's supposed to look. What gives?"

The "Foil" video reminds me of "I Lost on Jeopardy." I guess because they're both set in a TV studio? Doctor Demento was a lizard this whole time!!!

Assuming by beard, you mean mustache, you are not alone. My best guess is he didn't like the way it looked without the glasses. Has he the right of it? I lack the image editing skills to say.

Yes, just mustache.

Weird Al with facial hair in general.

So because of some of the older posts in this thread I went and listened to The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota for the first time in probably at least 20 years.

I still know every single word, and I'm pretty sure it's still my favourite Weird Al song.

Here's the Iggy Azalea parody video.

Much like the parody itself, it is not particularly inspired. Can't win 'em all.

Word Crimes is my favourite of the bunch, if only for the stunning revelation that Blurred Lines is still catchy even without the naked women. Really dense, too - points for even getting the Alanis joke in there.

Word Crimes is by far the best of the parody songs, but Tacky is the best video. It's hard to argue with some of the most talented comedians of the last twenty years years hamming it up

Yeah, really. I've never seen Jack Black that animated and it's hilarious.

I would be perfectly okay if Sports Song started playing at actual sporting events. It's a really fun one-joke song that doesn't overstay its welcome.

I really like the album overall. I wish I liked "Inactive" more than I did though, mostly because while I am definitely not the person described in the song...some exercise would do me so much good.

Bohemian Polka was so great; it would be awesome if Al would do more full-song polkas even if he just releases them on youtube or bandcamp in between CDs.

Since he's not planning on making CDs anymore, I wouldn't be surprised if he started doing more stuff in that vein, since he can just throw it out to the internet without thinking about album flow or marketability or what have you.

I was listening to the album in my car today, and after listening to Sports Song and the polka, I thought, "You know what would be fun? A Weird Al polka medley of nothing but Tom Lehrer songs."

Or maybe a medley of Dr. Demento mainstays/Al influences: Lehrer, Zappa, Sherman, etc.

Default What is the best Weird Al album?

I don't care much for Bohemian Polka, but that's likely largely due to being so, so sick of the original. I like the polkas way better as a kaleidoscopic look back on the last few years of hit music, though.

Lame Claim to Fame:

Apparently this took a year to animate. Also, the song and Al's hat and goatee are an homage to Southern Culture on the Skids, particularly this song:

I'm kinda starting to think that Word Crimes works better as a video than it does as a song. Largely because the best joke is "...NOT USE IT'S IN THIS PLACE", and that kinda only makes sense in the context of the video.

Whereas in Tacky, the lyrics don't match up with what the guest stars are wearing, so it's not like you need the visuals.

I think the videos have dramatically improved most of the songs. On that tip, here's the final one, a TED-talk-style video for "Mission Statement," animated in TruScribe and, fittingly enough, hosted by the Wall Street Journal.

Mandatory Fun debuts at #1

Al has never reached the top 5 before, let alone debuted at the top. This ... this brings a tear to my eye.

I haven't been following this past week's Weird Al blast too closely, but I have to say that turning "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" into a stream of empty corporate speak ranks among his sharpest commentary ever. It's pretty much the Woodstock generation in a nutshell. (Except for you, mom and dad.)

Rule 34 strikes again (article probably sfw).

Al's expression on the tweet at the bottom pretty much says it all.

I'm not sure, but Hardware Store is WAY up there. I loved CNR when I first heard it, but now I think it's only great. My favorite "not based on a particular song" is probably Dare to be Stupid. Not just because I am a big Devo fan (I fell in love with it before I heard DEVO), but it seems as much an Al mission statement as it is a parody of DEVO's message and style. And it's just great. And those junk transformers lead by Eric Idle seem to like it (how insane is the casting of Transformers: the Movie?)
