Not gonna lie, my first thought was "How is this not Nioh 2?"[/QUOTE]

Because its a different studio?

I'm confident From will take the mythic Japan setting into new strangeness like they did with dark fantasy and lovecraft gothic.

I've been thinking a lot about what sets Demon's aesthetic apart from Dark's and one thing I landed on was that, while it has some dark spots to it (Tower of Latria, for instance), Demon's Souls traffics mostly in high fantasy, whereas the Dark Souls trilogy goes full on dark fantasy.

Obviously. You probably could have slapped Team Ninja on their instead of Fromsoft and people would have bought it. I'm sure the games will be quite different once it comes out.

Really hope there's a character creator but I'm not holding my breath at this point.

It's Sekiro, not Seriko (I made this same mistake on twitter).

Holy fuck, this looks awesome.
Looks like there's a big emphasis on parrying.
How versatile will that grapple arm be, I wonder??
I am excited for this. VERY.

I'm not so much into the tonal qualities as presented in the trailer (which are likely exacerbated by the showy nature of a trailer), but this looks good otherwise. If a character creator is in there, I'll have a lot less misgivings.

A From game where you have a form of movement aside from the dodge roll would be a novelty, for sure.

I'm sure this will be great; but for whatever reason I'm not excited by Seriko or more From action-RPGs right now. I think there can be too much of a good thing.

I looked at their library on Wikipedia and From is very action RPG heavy. But they also have things like Echo Night and Armored Core. I wonder: Will From ever make another non-RPG game? Do they want to make a non-RPG game?

I still want From to go back to the Armored Core well, take the knowhow they've obtained from years of SoulsBorne titles to build a better mecha game. Armored Core scratches itches that other mecha games don't.

For SURE. I really like the idea of Bionic Commando-style platforming in a FromSoft action RPG.

It's interesting that an action game based on Japanese culture and mythology comes out and people are immediately like "wow this has already been done" while the Eurocentric action games can come out forever and there's not an equivalent response. I'm not saying that nobody is allowed to be bored or only moderately enthused by what we've seen of Sekiro thus far, but... there may be some cultural biases at play here

Not to mention that Eurocentric action games in general make up a huge chunk of the wRPG genre. We don't usually see feudal Japan stuff unless it's made by Koei-Tecmo or sometimes Capcom.

Iím glad theyíre switching things up! I love the previous games, but DS3 was starting to feel too samey for me. Grappling arms could be really good.

For a hot second I thought this game was called "Sakiro" and I thought no he didn't.
See, we used to post on the same forum together.

So this is a game about a samurai or something?

I wish this had a character creator. Yeah, there's the fun part of making little gremlins become the post powerful characters in a dying world or whatever, but I also just like creating my own guy with his own story instead of using a pre-made one. But, ah, well...

Has it been confirmed that it doesn't have one? The main character doesn't utter a single word in the entire trailer, which makes me think he might be a blank slate silent protagonist, like in the souls games. Hopefully.

There's no confirmation one way or another, but just going by the trailer Sekiro looks to be more of a character-driven action game than the usual Soulslikes. If there's a customization component, or even just some different clothes to change into, it ain't obvious from the video.

"The player takes control of a warrior named Sekiro with a prosthetic arm who wields a sword and grappling hook, whose goal is to rescue his master, a young lord, and get revenge on his archenemy."

Presumably you have options in how you build the character, but you might not have as much control over their appearance.

How did I not see this yet??

Honestly hoping this means when you die you just get back up and don't respawn anywhere.
