I think Microsoft is charging for that.

On the topic of Demon's Souls, I really, really need to get back to it... I only had worlds 4, 5 and 1-4 to finish anyway...

This game is one of the very small company of which the mere fact of its existence is all I need, or want, to know about it. I will be buying it on day one, but attempting to go on media blackout until then.

Parts of 4-2 and 5-2 are really tricky to get through, but none of the bosses for those are terrible. The end boss of world 5 can be really tricky if you don't have a decently strong bow. 1-4 is pretty tough all the way through, and the last boss can actually steal levels from you. None of that is easy, but all in all I had more trouble with the Maneater than any of that.

5-3 isn't bad if you're good at counters.

I beat Maneater first time through, by prodigious use of bastard swordery. And the trick with 5-3 is just to bait him into attacking, jump back and hit him before he recovers.

But how about that Dark Souls?

That scene in the trailer where you're walking on a narrow beam high above a cathedral floor hit all the right notes. I mean, what if enemies starting firing arrows on you when you're out there? What if a couple of suicide cases rush you from both ends when you get out to the middle? What if the beam itself starts to crumble? All sorts of terrible ways to die in a situation like that. Pitch perfect. Do we know which console is lead?

It's also probably using part of the engine from Demon's Souls.

Okay, good enough for me. I would prefer to play it on PS3 anyway.

You're an optimist. All I could think of is God of War and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Prince of Persia. But this is the sequel to Demon's Souls we're talking about here; not Sparta.

Don't hear that often. But since this is pretty clearly based on the Demon's Souls blueprint, I'm sure they'll leave it to the player to actually navigate the platform with the walking controls rather than forcing you to play a shitty balancing mini-game to get across.

Yeah, in Demon's Souls you already had to walk across some beams to get some hidden items past Miranda in 1-1. Just used the normal walking controls there.

Not to mention getting the great club near the start of Stonefang. I think I've only successfully done it 2 times. Yeah that part reminds of walking down the scaffolding in the poison swamp, where reinforcements start pouring out of the wall and there are spearmen up ahead and you're all "shit shit shit shit!"

That's why I don't mind watching the trailer. I watched the first game's trailer like 20 times, and I still had no idea what was going on. I thought I was going to be extra spoiled but it gave almost nothing away.

To be fair, they do that in Castlevania too.

Sometimes. Other times, like when going across the spiderwebs in (I think) level 4, you have to do the old tight rope deal.

I finally watched the trailer on a big screen with sound, and I'm somehow even more excited now. The idea that this is all connected is awesome.

I want to do another Demon's Souls replay soon, but I'm actually considering giving King's Field IV another crack. I got through the starting area (recently picked up the fire spell), and I hear that it opens up a lot after that.

I really want to play the last king's field game, but it's so fucking expensive.

[edit] ... did it drop in price or something? I remember it being a lot more expensive than it is now. It's short-listed on my buy list as soon as I get a job.

You guys really need to play The Ancient City! We had a fun club a while back but it was... kind of a failure. =/

It admittedly can be hard to get into after Demon's Souls. I liked what I played, but it's a little awkward control wise for various reasons (notably the stubborn refusal to move to proper dual stick controls), and it's actually a fairly scary games at times.

Yeah I was a part of that fun club- and I played up to a point. To me, it felt like a really dated prototype to Demon's Souls in some ways. The idea of exploration and danger was the same- but it was so difficult to go back to those ancient first-person controls and have fun. What I played I enjoyed- but I just found it tough to keep going. I'd like to finish it.

I remember one of the first NPC's you meet is in the same sitting position as the first one you meet in Demon's Souls.

I really wanted to play King's Field, but I couldn't find it anywhere. All the retro game shops I went to didn't have it, and didn't even know what the hell I was talking about. I'll definitely get it someday.

The beacon fire sounds really cool. It also seems like it might address the only fear that I had about the game becoming open worldy, which was the lack of a safe place or a place to recover like the Nexus. The checkpoint aspect sounds like a bonus.

I'm really excited about this game; Demon's Souls is one of my favourite games this generation. It's really nice that King's Field is finally getting some appreciation outside of Japan!

I have to stop reading information about it though: I don't want to spoil the whole game.

Demon's Souls kept me glued to it until I beat it. I expect Dark Souls to do the same.

Yesssssss. I don't have a PS3, but I had a frothing demand for Demon's Souls, so I am super pumped for this, since it's coming out for the 360 too.
