Default "Baba Is You" is incredible

Newly released for PC, Switch, and maybe others, "Baba Is You" is a block-pushing puzzle game in which the rules of the game are, themselves, blocks which you can push. By pushing them in the right way, you can change the rules.

For instance, if the rule blocks "Wall" "Is" "Stop" are lined up in a row anywhere on the map, it means you can't pass through wall tiles. But if you can reach those rule tiles and push them around so that they don't say that any more, walls no longer stop you, and you can just walk right over them to reach the goal. Provided, of course, that the tiles "Flag" "Is" "Win" are still intact!

It seems to have a large number of levels.

I only played through the first block of levels so far, but it does seem delightful.

There's a 16-level game jam version somewhere on the internet. The recent retail release reputedly has about 200 levels.

I am excited about Baba Is You.

I only found out about this game yesterday, but I was immediately smitten.

Reminds me a bit of Avalon Code on the DS. And I think I’m the only person who remembers Avalon Code in general so that’s something!

It's OK so far. I've read it's going to blow my mind at some point. I love the idea but so far all the puzzles have been basically the same thing.

Honestly if there's anyone here I expect to already have a damn good intuition about the sort of mind-bend-y puzzles in the game, it's you.

I've played more and it's good. It does require lateral thinking and I love the way it juggles figuring out what to do with the more Sokoban-style positioning. It plays very well as a team game too, with people making suggestions - the mechanics are very transparent which means people can pick it up very quickly.

Please spoiler-tag all solutions and hints in this thread.

The difficulty is all over the place in these levels, because this is really a game about lateral thinking, and there's really no way to determine what order you'll get insights in. That's why I'm totally stumped on these:
  • Island-Extra 3, "Tiny Isle"
  • Ruins-10, "Further Field"
  • Fall-3, "Rocky Road"
  • Fall-4, "Ghost Friend"
  • Fall-6, "Haunt"
  • Garden-5, "Maritime Adventures"
  • Garden-6, "Got All This Stuff Here"
  • Garden-7, "Blockade"
  • A Way Out?

Some of these are just overwhelmingly complicated, whereas with others I can get annoyingly close which just tells me I've latched onto a solution that's been specifically prevented.

If you've cleared any of those, I'd welcome insights. But just now I realized I totally skipped Deep Forest and some other destinations.

Solved this one.

Basic hint: You can continue running the game even when nothing IS YOU
Vague solution: Get the Babas to push Keke
Execution hint: Use the far wall

Island-extra 3

Setup, similar to other puzzles in this area: You’ll need double the flag or the key and control both at the same time, should allow you to remove one water square

Solution: Remove the water to the left of the “win”. This should allow you to set up “key is open and win” without too much trouble

I am crazy stumped by the puzzle where you're stuck inside a wall, but it LOOKS like you can use the words you have access to to push the words OUTSIDE the wall around, but I'm not sure how I need to push them.

I recall solving one like that a little while ago. What's the level tag on it?

Is it the prison one? That one defeated me but I was able to use the new skill to solve a couple other levels.

You need to surround a sentence stuck against a wall with two characters you are controlling and use them to separate the words

I can't remember the last time I played a puzzle game that was this mentally taxing.

Please name levels so we can tell which one you're talking about.

BEAT, if you're taking about "Prison," word on the street is the developer will be releasing a patch which adds an easier version of that puzzle to introduce the somewhat unintuitive technique it relies on more gently.

I'm seeing this game in my dreams.

The other day I got seven flowers and, without going into too much detail, so should you.

I just finished all the Fall levels. Some of those puzzles had me just staring at the screen for tens of minutes at a time, just trying to figure stuff out.

The stages where the "NOT" word is introduced threw me for a fucking loop, particularly Fall-13 "Catch". Just... like, it makes sense, but, man. Took me a million years to figure that out. Once I did, I audibly went "oooohhhhhh..."

I moved on to the Temple Ruins now, and cleared out the first five stages pretty easily. I'm kinda wondering if the Temple stages were meant to be cleared before the Fall stages, but I'm also not complaining. This game is satisfying like few puzzle games I've played, and unlike any puzzle game I've played in a very long time.

Cool, here's a hint.

You currently have access to the words Wall, Jelly, Is, and Stop. How many combinations have you tried with them?

Ok, I've spent a solid 3 hours or more on Deep Forest 10 - Lock the Door.

I thought I came to a solution. I set up my Bug and Belt in such a way that I could push "SHIFT" to spell BELT is SHIFT, which would then push a tree that pushed SHIFT over to spell BUG is SHIFT, and that bug pushes another tree to do the lock of FUNGUS is DEFEAT / LOVE is WIN. Problem is I can't figure out a way to set this up in such a way that gives me the space to get past the FUNGUS before it turns into DEFEAT.

Any hints? T_T

This game is hard as hell. Some of these later stages I cant even fathom what the solution could be. Deep Forest 10 11 and 12 have completely flummoxed me. I moved on to the Chasm levels which are cool as hell but kinda got stonewalled around level 5 or so. Still an awesome game but never have I felt this defeated by a game before.

I really prefer the "use lateral thinking with some simple concepts" puzzles to the "this puzzle has 50 different elements" puzzles
