Amazon secondary market prizes are fictional.

Sold listings for Melee on eBay clock it at ranging from $35 to $60, which may understandably still be too much for Issun but doesn't strike me as too crazy for a vintage game of its popularity.

Considering how many Nintendo games don't go down in price like ever, that's pretty reasonable, frankly.

I mean, I sell stuff when I'm done with it, and it's just occupying space, and especially if I could fill that space with something else I'd like with the money used from selling it. For example, up to (checks eBay) six (6) boxed copies of Demon Attack for the Atari 2600.

Travis Touchdown 4 Smash.

Character introduction trailer where he says the F-word to Mario and then graphically decapitates one of the fire emblem guys.

Hey all,

I just wanted to say thank you for your patience while the past week zoomed by without an update to be seen. This is not dead; I just had too much going on to be able to do this. And obviously I needed to rest up today, as I have been asleep for most of it.

Updates will resume tomorrow, I promise. Thanks again!

#26 Gravity Rush (Vita, NA, 2012, Sony/Project Siren)
Created by Takeshi Oga
Votes: 2 for 61 points
Highest: Yimothy (#5)

Sony's Gravity Rush has some amazing art direction, utilizing its gravity mechanic beautifully in its concept and promotional artwork. Kat standing on the side of a building overlooking a gorgeous cityscape carries mystique and intrigue about this game's world and protagonist. Excellent stuff, and one I had considered for my list.

Takeshi Oga served as the game's primary illustrator (thanks Wikipedia), and have worked at Project Siren for most of its life, first creating art for the Siren series. Personally speaking, I think Gravity Rush and its sequel are definitely his best work, and I'm excited to see where else his career takes him.

Here's a larger non-logo version:

With that, we have finished the bottom half of the Top 50! Where will we go from here? Tune in later this week for the beginning of the 25 greatest box arts of all time, as voted by you!

I love that cover. It not only highlights the gravity weirdness, but it’s a great shot of the city, which is the real main character of the game.

The un-cropped full piece is pretty dang amazing.

I wonder if we'll get far into the top 25 before we start seeing covers with more than two votes?

How did it get to 61 points with two votes?

Wouldn't the highest score a box could get with 2 votes be 50, or am I not understanding the scoring process?

Anyways OTHER BOXES post coming soon.

LET'S LOOK AT
THE OTHER BOXES

#26 - GRAVITY RUSH

VITA - JAPAN
Two things to notice here. One, the name is changed from Gravity Rush to Gravity Daze. Two, the image shows quite a bit more of the box's original art than the North American version, Giving us a better view of the rad cityscape. Spoiler alert, this is the LAST time we will get such a nice view, for reasons you might have already guessed from this post's subtitle.

RANKING: A

VITA - EUROPE (ALTERNATE?)
I couldn't actually confirm if this box is real or not, as the only site I could find it on was Giantbomb. all my other sources showed the PAL box as being identical to the North American one.

I'm including it in spite of my doubts as to it's authenticity because of how well it highlights the shift in focus from "look at this amazing setting to "oMg LooIkT SeXsEy LAYdie". This step away from aw-inspiring scenic vistas and towards horney is a grim portent of things to come.

RANKING: F

PS4 - PAL REGIONS

Wow I can't believe that they let their horny cover up the main character like that wtf. Maybe they did better in other regions?

RANKING: D-

PS4 - EVERYWHERE ELSE
Nope. They did not.

PS4 - SEQUEL
Stop it gravity rush! I refuse to fall into temptation!

RANKING:

IOS DEVICES - EUROPE

App Icon.

Title Screen
I'm sorry, but I am unable to describe the existential sorrow these two images represent. I lack the language to do so. I apologize deeply for taking the coward's way out and copy-pasting this description, but as you will soon see, It was really my only choice.

Next to various advertisements in-game, Coke Zero is also part of the gameplay. In each of the games various drops of coke can be collected to fill a bottle in the top right corner. When full, it can be tapped to play one of two mini-games (unique for each game). The game contains several games that involve racing or are of the endless runner type.

The content was updated gradually, but as of 2015 it consists of four games. They are set on the titular island where all of them can be selected right away.

Gravity Rush: Infinite Skies
This endless runner game stars Kat from Gravity Rush. She needs to collect crystals while running automatically to score points. By using swipes in the main four directions, Kat alters gravity to cling to that part of the environment. The player has to time carefully as swiping her in a direction without a surface causes her to die immediately as she disappears into the void. There are also sections where she flies through the air and needs to be steered by tilting the device. There are enemies that can be taken out to collect drops of coke, but this can only be done by swiping in the correct direction as she passes them, based on the position of the enemy. The first Coke Zero mini-game is a 2.5D platformer similar to the LittleBigPlanet games and with the same visual style. Kat needs to switch gravity to keep running and collect crystals. In the second mini-game she is on the other side of Jak's hoverboard and the screen needs to be tapped to raise the board and collect crystals.
All have suffered.

All have suffered.

RANKING: FUCK NO.

Ugh, fuck marketing, it was such a cool art too.

Unrelated to that, but I gotta say I love the absurdly long subtitle the game has in Japanese:

(Couldn't find a translation for it; Translating with google, not even gonna try by myself with these kanjis:
"Gravity daze: In returning to the upper layer, perturbations occurring in her inner space")

I read in Wikipedia that apparently the director was inspired by the subtitle to Dr Strangelove and wanted to give a similar impression.

ETA: Derp, there is a translation in the wikipedia page itself, but to my defense it was particularly well hidden:

Not that it makes it any more clear, though... I guess it might make sense within the game's context?

See, now, to me the main character of Gravity Rush isn’t the city, it’s Kat going “oh! Oh crap! Oh craaaaap” as she awkwardly plummets sideways in midair.

To that end, every Gravity Rush cover is equally wonderful.

Gravity Rush is a really good cover. I knew of its existence, but I only played a demo of the game, so it doesn't really stick out in my memory. Shame, cuz I'd have voted for it. Good job those that did.

My PAL copy of Gravity Rush has the same art as the NA version, just with an Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification "PG" logo instead of the big T. I haven't seen the Euro version BEAT posted before, and I'm not a fan. I think what I like about the cover is the strangeness. The city is a bit odd, but Kat and her cat standing sideways while her hair and scarf fall normally really makes it.

Having her falling is probably a better representation of the game, and the fact that rather than flying she just changes the direction she falls in is one of my favourite things about the game, but I like the odd stillness of the standing cover.

Yeah like I said, the only site to Feature that version of the Cover was Giantbomb, it wasn't anywhere to be found on any of my other resources. Smart money is that it's a custom cover made by some nerd who sought to DECEIVE me with their CUNNING LIES.
